The E used to be for "Einspritzung" (fuel-injection) on the W123 cars, 280E etc. With the W124s, after 1993 the E moved to the start of the designation, E230 for example, and here I suppose it stands for Executive, and started the identity of the E class.

Thanks :)
@monk3yboy693 жыл бұрын
@Lester No, it never meant Executive. As you point out , the E moved to the front of the engine size in 1993 and that was officially the start of the E Class series. I remember the campaign and the launch ( huge fan as a teen at the time).

@@tariqtvproductions the w124 is the saloon the coupe is actually the c124 and these were the first models to be called the E class , I have the c124 E320 facelift and yes these cars are a joy to own and drive also easy to work on with no computers thank God.

Correct MB designations: W = sedan; V = long-wheelbase saloon; C = coupé; A = cabriolet; S = estate; R = roadster - so the car featured is a C124, not a W124.

Thanks. Love these old school mercs. The build quality was second to non. I'd like to compare a Rolls Royce of the time to see how they compare!

@@tariqtvproductions In the mid-70s I owned a '64 S3 Bentley (a Cloud III Royce with a different grille) - the last of a long string of English cars I'd owned. Sure, it was an impressive chariot, and the interior was something the Germans couldn't equal at the time (especially that Connolly leather), but I replaced it with a W108 Benz and have never looked back. I've owned at least one example of every S-Klasse Benz from 1955 to 1994 (a total of 17) as well as one W124 and two W201s. Not at all interested in any car built after 1990; I can't fix them with basic mechanic's tools and have no interest in driving a computer on wheels.

I shall do that. :-) Over my life (72 years) I've owned 72 cars: British, American, Japanese, French, Italian, German, Australian … including some interesting clunkers. Only one did I buy new: an Australian Holden Monaro GTS (HG series); it was the most disappointing PoS I've ever owned. It was from the last production run of the series and was certainly built on a Friday. At its 1,000 mile first service I presented the dealer with a list of 48 issues. Only two were fixed by the fourth service (8,000 miles) so I left it parked across the dealership's main entrance, locked, with "lemon" written all over the metallic paintwork with toothpaste. I dropped the keys down a stormwater grate and walked away, still owing 80% of the bomb's cost, which I never paid off.

@@21stcenturyozman20 wow wonder what that did to their sales?! lots of different cars! Which ones have been your favourite ones which really stand out? Baz loves the American cars especially the 57 Chevy but they're really expensive now gone up in price!

Not just for reversing. Really just to improve rear visibility when there's no-one in the back seats. A standard feature on older Mercs. My CLK 320 had the same. Beautiful car though.
