Many thanks for this valuable information. not a collector, but I really enjoy seeing the workings of a mechanical watch. My wife bought me an inexpensive skeleton watch and it is fascinating to see the movement of the escapement, and to be able to judge if it needs wind by examining the extension of the mainspring. Unfortunately, it does not appear to have been designed to optimally show the rotation of the other gears and components and does not include any other complications, like a date or second hand. What I would like to own is a skeleton watch that has these additional functions and is also designed to display the movements and watchmakers skill to best effect. Can anyone recommend a reliable and reasonably priced example? The actual brand doesn’t really matter, but I wouldn’t mind stretching the budget for something recognisable.

Chinese or not, I haven't got any problem with any of my Chinese watches for these past 10 years as they are still doing fine and as a humble watch collector, recently, I'm seeing myself being more attracted to Chinese watches because I get value for money and each brand that I buy gives to me a different taste as they are indeed very beautiful pieces. They are very affordable and I wear a different watch brand for different dress code wherever I go. They are also head turners as very often, people have asked me from where I bought them as they are indeed very beautiful. For me, It's just a matter of taste and what you are looking for in the watch you buy. Aside of all these, I'm very selective about my Chinese watches as I don't buy many buy few which are of quality.

They have a website outside of aliexpress that does give a company backstory if you try googling them. You're right in that I can't find any reviews either but then, if they sell domestically, I wouldn't be able to read them even if I found them.

I'd be amazed if anyone had ever paid their actual RRP that's for sure. A lot of their stuff is homage based and over-designed, but they do have a couple of models that are genuinely quite good just a little too big for me - The Simple Tourbillon features in some of the imagery of this video, the one that has a completely plain dial, which is very H.Moser & Cie in style. The other one is the Gooseneck Automatic, which seems to have a really well finished movement for the price and has some decent styling compared to most of their output. I believe both are 42mm which is too big for me, but I would definitely have bought the simple tourbillon over mine if it were smaller and comparative in price.

My brand new seagull tourbillion was defective - this may have just been luck. But the return process with the official dealer was a nightmare. So for the money, I'll pass. Also, I doubt any watchmaker outside China would service it and after a few years it'll become useless unfortunately.

Hi, thank you for your video. I own a Weishi 1900 timegrapher and it works great for hobbiest/enthousiasts, they also seem to be accurate enough for that purpose (i'm a hobbiest watchmaker). And a lot better affordable than the (very) expensive Swiss Witschi brand. I see a lot of other youtuber watchmakers use the Weishi's aswell.

I bought an AGELOCER Turbillon. It took 28 days to arrive and when it did it was running several hours a day fast. I checked and it's not magnetized. I sent their customer service and video of it and they replied with this Thank you for providing your order number and the video. Based on our initial assessment, there doesn't appear to be a significant quality issue with the watch. If there's a large time discrepancy, it may be due to the watch being impacted during transport, which could have displaced the balance spring speed regulator clamp. "We recommend taking it to a local watch repair shop for calibration. We can cover $20-$30 of the repair costs as compensation. Please let us know how you would like to proceed!" Thing is, I don't have a local watchmaker and I can't find anyone who will even look at a Turbillon. They said it could send it back for repair but that would cost $169. So it just sits on my table.

The company chose by the Chinese govt to make movements for the Chinese military and Air Force? The company that also creates its own minute repeaters and triple axis tourbillons rather than using 3rd party movements like big names did up untill 30 years ago or so while seagull always used their own? You could have added "it would be cheaper to buy a replacement watch rather than to try and have any Chinese mechanical watch repaired or serviced". We all know that sub £500 mechanical watches are a fad that will end up abandoned in drawers as soon as they require servicing due to the costs involved; this included all the Seiko 5's and cheaper Citizens that have become popular again in the past few years.
@jamesrindley62152 ай бұрын
There are people who will service mechanical watches for much less than £100 if you look at lower income countries. You can either get the watch fixed when you travel there for work or vacation, or you can send it off, there are people offering this service on ebay for instance. I've had 3 watches serviced in Taiwan (not a particularly low income country BTW) but nevertheless the cost came in under £100 per watch and I'm happy with the results.

Anytime someone says, "we all know," you can guarantee there's nothing to know. I've paid $300 to have a pair of $150 boots resoled before. Why, because I like the boots. I don't like new boots. i'd rather pay more for my boots. Crazy? I just put value in different places. I assume some people feel the same way about their watches. I know I do.
@jamesrindley6215Ай бұрын
@@joshuabroo Exactly. The value of an object to you has nothing to do with what someone else might pay for it. In the case of a watch, it's about the pleasure you get from owning and wearing it that decides if it's worth whatever it costs to refurbish it.

That depends on how You think uppon this topic... For example: Servicing an automatic Omega watch cost you around 800. That should last for let's say 7 years. A chinese Sugess/Seagull tourbillon cost around 600 on Amazon. Including 3 years total waranty against every damage. So - for the price of the service you get 1-2 new tourbillon watches from China. Which could last let's say 7 years when using it regularely.

Don't buy watches because they look like much more expensive watches. You are wasting your money. Usually this happens with people who are new in the watch hobby. Save up and buy something that you will actually enjoy for a while and even if you collect watches for a long time after, you will not be looking at that watch and thinking that it's a complete piece of garbage. Also, don't buy Chinese watches. They are various degrees of crap. Some are relatively inoffensive, like bird droppings. Others, however, are giant steaming piles produced by humans who appear on My 600 pound life.

Lol no it’s not, don’t repeat something you’ve heard before it’s such a narrow minded POV. Buy a watch for the reasons you want! There are many Chinese watches which I like the aestethics off MUCH MORE THAN SWISS BRANDS. I mean let’s be honest… the nautilus, aquanaut and most other pateks are rather ugly or boring. AP look tacky. but ppl like them because ppl like them. Breguet, glaschutte, benzinger, chronoswiss, all have more interesting looking watches. Some ppl might want the aesthetic, others might want the complication, others might want a variety, some might hate dive watches, some like hybrid, some might like hand painted work, some might like guilloche. Price doesn’t equate to what you are looking at in a watch and if I was to get the watch I want which is a guilloche dial with 2 tourbillons the only option I have is breguet at over 100k (probably be over 250k if the brand was AP OR PP) but I can get one for $3k. Just remember your watch if it’s a $100k Rolex probably has a 2 year warranty… that’s enough to tell me about the value. The Chinese watches have 1 year. Don’t be mad at us. We prefer value, be mad at the expensive brands offering a pitiful 2 year warranty… imagine that breaking after 2 years when they can overcharge $5k just for a gasket, or like older models can refuse to fix them at all!

@@sandyw9357 FYI, my favorite watches are German, not Swiss. Generally speaking, Swiss watches are way overpriced. German watches offer similar and sometimes better quality at significantly lower prices. Also, Seiko is an excellent brand, with a wide range of prices fitting different budgets. Chinese watches are basically a waste of money. You might enjoy them for a short period of time, but in the long run, you will realize you bought garbage.
