So I bought the netgear xr500 and it was an awful experience. Had everything setup perfect and got terrible lag on a pvp games. I hooked back up my old router and everything was fine again. Returned it back to Best Buy. I feel like something was wrong with it it was so bad. Netgear support said they have been having problems with that model lately. Love this channel, that’s why I got the xr500. Even chromcast would disconnect. It was a bad experience to say the least lol. Really am curious if something was wrong with the hardware.

Garret Simpson it’s called QoS, many have it and many do it better too. It’s the geo filter that makes this a bit unique but that only works on peer to peer.

I am currently using a Ubiquiti Edgerouter 4 and find the QOS to be better than the Netgear. The GEO filter is cool though.

There is also another cheap way, setup EdgeRouter X with Smart Queue Management enabled and turn your cheap router into AP access point. There is limitation on speed, it won’t support 1gb but up to 200 mb should be fine and it protects network well against bufferbloats. If you have faster network you should get something with faster cpu like ER4 or built your own.

The problem might be is that if your always connected to the closest server ,it doesn’t mean it’s the best or the fastest connection, being in a rural area closest isn’t always the best..

depends on the game you're trying to play. closer the gaming server to your location, the better the experience. distance is the main factor not so much hardware and or bandwith speeds unless you live next to a server and are experiencing bad connection.

@@Vash3557 when i lived by myself, i didn't really need a gaming router, but if other things/people use your wifi then yes a gaming router helps. but the biggest thing to help was a wired connection. The netgear router's software allows you to prioritize your console, but it has to be set up properly as well.

This is sick. I’m getting the XR500 right now 😂. I’m also getting spectrum 200 megs in my room with the modem and my XR500 on my desk. The rest of my family will use Frontier while I use my own line. This is over kill but it’s gonna be sooo good. Especially with MW submarine puts me in 70-150 ping lobby’s. Now I get the best server let’s go. Not to mention I play comp and with covid I’ll be set 😂

If you have problems with hit detection and hit registration in your games just forward ports on your router. Google it how to do it and what ports should you open for your game. If you cant open ports you are either CGNat-ed or your router just wont let you. If router wont let you thats when you should buy a new router.

It's their merchandise without the partnership of netgear, by that I mean, releasing update for r1 without waiting for netgear approval to push the updates. Just me being picky as the netgear products have been good to me though. No complaints there.

Just set game ports or "service port" to highest priority and set port 80 and port 443 to lowest your router will do the rest. If you are using bandwidth percentages use 67% for highest and 33% for normal. I would avoid settings for "medium" priority I think this just makes your router not sure of what it's doing. Wouldn't really recommend it unless you're running over 1000Mbps internet or you have a 10 gig NAS or need link aggregation. Reality is average user doesn't need anything above the 500

Yes and Yes. I teach networking and I tell my students "You can buy a $500 Ferrari, but if the road is crappy and full of pot holes you can't drive the speeds you could. The ISP has everything to do with how fast your internet connection is. A great router stabilizes those connections and balances them out for multiple devices including remote play.

hey, I have a question, you may not see this but if you do, please help me out man, so I am running ethernet from my grandpas room where the router is, I am running it all the way to the front room where my pc is and hardwiring it into the back of my PC. I got better download speed but upload is trash, I get 1-2 most times, if I am lucky I get 4-5, if I bought a router off of amazon like that would that fix my upload speed issue and get me to the position where I am able to stream, get a router from amazon, run the cable from that to my pc for ethernet. Would that give me better upload, enough to stream? Please help me out, thank you! (I dont want to have to spend like 100-200$ and it not work)

you can google the model gateway you have and find a tutorial for bridge mode. AT&T for example provides equipment without a fixated "bridge mode". There are ways to configure the gateway into bridge mode though.
