It seems so many fail to grasp or to acknowledge a Mustang GT is a Grand Tourer. The Mustang GT it has always been a Grand Tourer foremost and this is a key to it's popularity and longevity. Sure there are track capable versions the Mustang, but myself and many others drive them because they are Grand Touring vehicles. I have no belief nor aspiration I am a race car driver nor do I have an interest in lap times, I don't have an interest in 1/4 mile time. My interest is driving a stylish car that is comfortable, has some get up and go and my wife enjoys coming along, if need be I can fit someone in the back. Sure Mustang are quick, they are fast, they now handle pretty good, the point of a Grand Tourer is to comfortably tour and the Mustang GT excels at that role. GT is in the name for a reason. If track performance were all that matters GM wouldn't be discontinuing the Camaro for the second time.

I have a 2015, the first year of the S550. 107k miles (I’m American) on the 5.0 and 6R80 (bad knee from accident) None of the issues listed with have happened to me, I just change the oil at the right time and don’t do stupid shit to the car. The only 2 things I have to address are the sagging roof liner on the drivers side and the seat is tearing a little as I keep my keys for work on my belt. Average MPG is 19mpg and gets great fuel mileage on the highway. It’s a Ford, the build quality isn’t great but it was 22k USD out the door used. I don’t have very bad panel gap or any interior rattles, and the ride is still smooth. The car has been great, it’s super smooth, pulls hard and is indeed obnoxious.

The issue with the MT-82 generally lies in the shift linkage (not being especially robust/rigid) and the underlying bracketing. The MT-82 has the shifter mounted directly to the chassis via the transmission tunnel. Under hard acceleration/rpm and load, the engine and transmission twist under the torque of the engine (this is normal to an extent on every car), however most manual transmissions (for high powered cars) mount the shifter and linkage directly to the transmission, not the chassis like the mustang's design. This means the transmission moves and twists, but the shifter and linkage doesn’t move with it since it’s bolted to the chassis directly. This leads to an inconsistent shifter feel, grinding, high rpm lockout, and all those other things you hear about in the forums. Add the scenario of driver at a drag strip trying to shift aggressively and quickly to a shifter design that doesn’t like to be hurried and you have a recipe for complaints and issues. It's a shame Ford dont put the Tremec into the standard GT's!

Another great review. I've got a 2016 GT with 14K on odometer. Had zero problems, apart from air compressor needed to be regassed and that was due to lack of use. I find it damped very well when it hits large bumps of speed humps, but on average roads it struggles to settle down. I also find it a challenge at times to grab the seat belt, should have a seat butler. Sync 2 has been reliable, but find it hard to read graphic display. This is all very minor feedback, but every time you get in car it puts a smile on your face.

Back seat is actually far more practical in the convertible where a roof down and head height issue doesn't exist also easier to get into and out of with the roof down. Not to mention storage space is very handy with a dropped roof and access into rear seats for quick airport pick-up and get aways. My FN - has been an excellent car one ill continue to own well for another few more years and you know - I might just buy another cos well V8s are heading the way of the dodo and I kinda just love the sound and playfulness of this car.

Excellent review. One of the best really that I have seen on KZbin. If I may, I would like to add one more thing that may have been overlooked and that is the paint quality. I own a 2017 ( bought it brand new) GT with the performance package in black and the paint is horrible. It is very thin and it chips so easily especially on the rear front quarter panels and the front hood. Unless you ppf the car, and that doesn't always work, you will need a touch up pen handy "all" the time. I have also spoken to other 2015-2022 mustang owners and they all complain of this including paint chipping, paint flaking, and paint pitting from the poor paint process at the factory. But in the end, these mustang are meant to be driven and driven hard and I look at those issues as war wounds and a badge of honour, and when the time is needed I will give it a paint refresh. The S550 is such an amazing car that Ford continued it through the S650 so that is telling. In the end it's a mustang thing and for those that own one, wow do we love it. Thank you for your video and to many more. Cheers.

Amazing that he mentioned "EVs are gonna leave things like this for dead.." .. I don't own a Mustang but I always loved them and respect for what they are. The point is not really just speed, EVs models will not last for decades, will not be a classic car one day.. EVs will be just like phones, keep for 2 or 3 years and move on because they will be obsolete, they will have a much reduced range unless you are prepared to pay the price of a small car just for a new battery OR there will be batteries in the future that will have a much better technology.

Excellent video, as always! Non-related question; with Doug Demuro having recently bought his Carrera GT dream car, is there a car that each of the ReDriven team members would purchase, should the opportunity (and funds) ever arise?

Great question Eli. What we'd buy in this circumstance changes regularly but right for this very second: Adam (me), I go weak at the knees for a first gen Honda NSX Type R.......wait.....actually maybe my perfect spec old school 911, like somewhere between a Magnus Walker, Singer and Autohaus Hamilton style 911......actually no wait.....um Kia EV6 GT but lowered a little and wearing some race style aftermarket rims........or maybe I wait and go for a Hyundai Ionic 5N.....but with Lancia Delta Integrale style aftermarket rims.....actually maybe just I'd just get a Lancia Delta Integrale Evo.........mate this could go on forever! I own a 2020 GT with the 10 speed, and I would note, that used, I would never by a heavily modded car. Outside of a cat back exhaust, and MAYBE a cold air intake with a tune from a reputable programmer. You can be sure anything with further mods has probably seen some solid abuse, especially a car with an aftermarket blower.

About a year and a half ago I bought a used 2015 mustang gt. I went through about every issue that you've listed and more. If all you want is cheap power (I live in the United States so its dirt cheap) it's a decent option, but there's so much hassle to keep it running. Even more than the video suggests.

I've got a 2016 GT premium convertible, 37,000 miles. Complete new A/C system, all components went to sh*t. $4g's plus (dash gets dismantled). Two weeks after that, gas leak coming from around the tank. Two window motors, small chips around the edge of windshield. Weatherstripping will rot, windows don't align. Motor is a beast, but the rest of the car will disintegrate around you.

One person's extreme experience doesn't change the amazing experience of the vast majority. These cars are very good, I've owned 3 S550s personally. Every vehicle and manufacturer will have owners with really bad luck, even if the majority of owners have no/minor issues. So, it's unfortunate that you dealt with that, but this car is way better than you lead on. 😊

This is a great page, informative and funny. I know I should not get one, that's why I will get one. But a 2011, still over 400 HP and 6 gears but not yet with an independent rear suspension. The build quality may be slightly less, but it's also tens of thousands of dollars less than a BMW or other European makes, not to mention Corvettes and Supras. The performance to dollar ratio is off the charts and one of these keeps right up with a BMW M3.

Bought a used 2019 GT Premium in October of 2020 with the digital instument cluster in Orange Fury, original msrp was about $52k U.S., sticker price with 38k miles was $39k, after they over paid me for my trade in I rolled the positive trade equity into a down payment making my 2.54apr loan a very affordable payment. Regular maintenance is all its needed. Replaced coolant, diff and trans fluids, and other normal maitenance as needed. Added dark as is legal tint, Barton Hybrid 3 transmission mounted shifter, Steeda Clutch spring, previous owner added a frt strut tower brace and some racing stripes via wrap. Its been wonderful to drive and pretty great just to look at. If I get another Mustang it will be a Mach1.

I am on my third Mustang. One 2017, one auto 2018 and now a manual 2018 (Whipple supercharged). The 2017 had poor panel gaps but no other issues. The first 2018 was perfect and now the manual 2018 is perfect, apart from a weak manual. I’ve had it replaced once. But it is an issue even in naturally aspirated form. But there is aftermarket options to get around this. For the moment, granny shifting and throttle blipping is a must!

Itsm can be set to blip the throttle for you yeah?? And whats qeak about it the gearbox itself or the clutch?? Im interested in buying one but this review doesnt seem too good
@xtgt326 Жыл бұрын
@@chrismarshall8381 Hi Chris, the 2018’s didn’t come with auto blip. From 2019 onwards they did. The gearbox is the weak point, not the clutch. From my research, the shift forks are the main weak point. However, granny shift (I.e. don’t flat change) and you can make it last.

@@xtgt326 had any issues with lockout at high rpm? From what i've seen online, its the stock shifter and pissweak clutch thats the main problem with the mt82. its a shame Ford dont put the tremec in the standard gt's.

@chrismarshall8381 I personally have had 2 mustang gt's a 2016 auto and 2021 manual. I know lots of other mustang owners. The mt-82 is bad if you are a bad driver. It's fine if you are a good one. But not great. I have one friend with 95k on his and he beats the day light out his car. But he can shift. I have another friend with 58k miles 712hp drives modesty and can shift very well. No issues. That's not to say issues don't exist, but just from my personal perspective, it honestly comes down to skill and how you treat them.

He also had a mocha grey EF Ford Fairmont which is special as my dad had one in that colour and my first car was a EF Ford Fairmont in polynesian green. Anyway, he asked if I wanted to see his other Mustang and I said yes. He opened the garage and I could see the green paint and no 5.0 on the wing. So I'm thinking why is he showing me his 4 cylinder Mustang after showing me the GT. Well you guess it, Bullitt version of the Mustang. Lovely paint and what an enthusiast.

If you find a nice example that has been well cared for. As always check any car for abnormal wear & tear. With both the V8 & 4cly you must & I mean must change the oil every 8000-10,000k these are high performance sports cars & must be treated accordingly. Anything that has missed services or long intervals between oil changes run away for the hills.
