I only own second foot red wing (second hand for shoes sounds weird right?) i also just buy them when they are barely used and i had some pretty decent prices, my 877 barely used, not even broken in, €120, a very nice pair of 1188 for €100 and the list goes on. Also bought some very nice Frye roper boots with an incredible patina for... €30 including shipping and they are so great, i keep them on my feet in my house since i got them. As you mentioned, i also use new insoles in my used boots so my feet are not uncomfortable from previous owner footstamp on the inner sole and with time, it will reconform to my feet on my insole. There's a lot of people who sell barely used shoes because they choose the wrong size or because they couldn't take the break-in period. Frankly, they don't know what they miss. I don't think i will ever buy a new pair of RW, there's far too much good opportunity to get fantastic shoes for a bargain. Your Pecos are beautiful btw 👍🏻

I've got a pair of secondhand 3345s (Blacksmiths) which were even resoled by the previous owner to customize before I bought them. Everything you say about the fit is accurate, but if you get a chance at a truthful "worn 5 times" or less, you may actually get the best end of the deal as they won't have personalized so much but may have gotten through the first hours of torture. My word of advice on sizing of heritage (moreso than work models) Red Wings is try on at your dealer if possible, but don't let the sales folks convince you into something that sounds completely crazy - you can trust your feet. They should be snug, not incredibly tight - yes they are bigger, but they are likely to be a half size bigger if the width is spot on or a full size if you need wide and the model doesn't come in EE. CRD's advice about insoles is spot on, they can make any slightly large shoe fit like a charm if you understand how the insole needs to fill the space before you buy it (the insole). And there are tons of insoles that will have different practical effects. As usual, a great video.

I got a pair of 1155's of eBay recently. They look to be gently used with little wear on the heel. They conditioned up nicely and are a beautiful pair of boots. And I got them about half the price of the new ones. They are 9.5d which is what I wear in all my boots. Although they were a tad bit loose, but I plan on using them with thick winter socks and they now fit just right. you can always make a boot that's a little big work just as you did with thicker insoles. It is the boots in a too small size that I'm cautious of.

I can’t lie all my red wings have been second hand. It took me the first 3 pairs to get the rite size. But I was easily able to get double my money back for them. As far as the foot bed it changes over time as you wear them. It’s because of the heat from your foot. It’s like wearing a leather jacket. It’s subject to change. The soles easily replaced. 877 the worst the condition the better. Peccos! Nice! But I’ve been very lucky I have some from the 50’s Irish setters. I would say you can’t go wrong.

I bought mine second hand. They were grey-ish/charcoal but I dyed them black. While they fit my foot without discomfort, I do wish they were a width wider as I like loose boots. They have cork sole and I love it.

I have bought all my Red Wings from ebay. It is important to note that you can ALSO buy NEW Red Wings, second hand. I saved about 100 American dollars on a pair of the 4313 Indian Motorcycle 8" Iron Ranger type boots, brand new in box, 1st quality. BTW, these don't look like clown shoes because the cap toe is actually smaller and more forward than the iron ranger so the profile is much slimmer. they are glorious. I also bought a pair of merchants NIB. Also new. I will say that if you're buying an old, worn pair, it is a good idea to be factoring in the cost of a complete resole, which there is a huge market for. A lot of people are going into it for the sole purpose of resoling. I have bid on many with nice character.

If your comfortable in redwings the first day then they are to big. A correct fit hurts like hell for a month until they break in. Maybe longer. But once you get through it they are like custom made boots that last forever

I went into a Red Wing store and got measured, they told me 9.5, I thought that was too small so I got 10s. Years later I bought a second pair that were factory seconds (limited selection) they only had 9.5s...turns out the 9.5s fit better once broken in.

I own like 13 pairs of Red Wings and at some point started buying used boots in good condition and had no issues whatsoever with them. They do need some braking in time also, cause the insole will at some point shape to your foot again as well, without having the painful braking in period for the upper leather though. Some of my Iron Rangers I also bought half a size bigger than I usually wear to be able to put a thin insole into them, wich in case of the Iron Rangers, also helped in colder conditions as well as comfort. So I actually don‘t quite agree with you not to buy second hand Red Wing boots. You are right with buying the first pair not knowing your correct size, but on the other hand if you get a great deal you can experiment with different sizes as well. As long as you don‘t buy them too small you can always put in an insole and/or wear thicker socks in them and they still would be looking okay. Of course it all depends on how good the condition of the boots is, but also if you really want a great pair of totally fu**ed up boots, you could also be happy with those. Just an opinion. Love your new intro by the way 🤜🤛

Yes. If; 1. You know your size and the last it's made on. 2. You know the colour way, the leather and how it ages and patinas so you can see how they've been looked after. 3. Like you, the ones you are after are no longer being made. I'm looking for some Ranchers. Tough as shit, cool as fuck that I can just slide on and reform around my feet. They'd be my fifth pair of RW.

Smart looking boots. Pronounced paycos. Say the o as o. Good job by the cobbler. Had a pair ruined by a bad cobbler. If hipsters and rich spoiled brats don't like the way a real work boot looks they should stick with their tennies. If you don't even know what work is you don't really rate a work boot. Probly a sign of decadence and decline. Decadence and decline is the main theme in fashion today. Maybe I'll try fancy dress shoes in the garden. Some of us still care and wish to be decent people.

I never buy used shoes. Someone else's foot has already broken those shoes in, and your feet will never find comfort in shoes molded around someone else's foot. But to me, it's just gross that someone else's foot was sweating, and all of that sweat is now soaked into the leather. It's like buying used underwear, that has never been washed.

Now I understand that as denimheads we enjoy more than a bit of Americana but I just don't get this sheep following if Red Wing... They're just thick crust leather with comfortable soles. Don't get me wrong, I of course get the heritage and like the style, quality is good but it's nothing special, and especially not for the price!!! In Europe we have dozens of family owned shoe and boot makers that still hand craft their shoes and boots. And they do so at a price point not very much higher or lower than that of Red Wing. Quality though is of a whole different league with calf leather, fully lined and single or double Norwegian welt. Like Timberland, thing Panama Jack, like Whites or the top stuff, think Heschung. Etc. I am shocked that denim heads should be do brainwashed into a bunch of brand fan boys....
