He nailed it. I rented one for 10 days recently. Additional critiques: 1. Ergonomics and functions of switchgear are beyond terrible. Interacting with the car is annoying. 2. Car feels plenty quick, but never sporty. 3. Electric power steering has an awful feel. 4. Brakes, on the other hand, feel really nice. But they are squeaky with only 3k miles. 5. Transmission is impeccably smooth. It never draws attention to itself - just does the job competently. 6. Acceleration is smooth, but there is a very harsh vibration/resonance while idling in gear. I was stuck in traffic for an hour recently, and the vibration was maddening. 7. No good exhaust noises, but some bad exhaust noises are present when the engine is charging the battery . (Sounds like a portable gas generator in the hatch area.) Overall impression - Not a terrible car, but I was very glad to give it back after the rental.

Same here. As the reviewer notes, either version of the Hornet results in the best performing vehicle in the segment. But all hybrid vehicles are compromised. They are all a marriage of two different powertrains, one mechanical and one electric, so neither is optimized. On the other hand, the GT model has a reliable and potent 2 litre turbo engine and all wheel drive. As to Alfa Romeo reliability, the reviewer is demonstrating his ignorance of the brand's current build quality. The entire review is a little laughable, actually. The Fiat Multi Air gets 3000 mile oil changes - between the turbo and multi air unit. It’s also a manual gearbox. If you maintain these engines - they can break 200k easily. But they do indeed need the proper maintenance.
@savedbydave7 ай бұрын
A big issue with multiair engines is letting them sit. Multiair depends on normal circulation of engine oil and if you let it sit, that oil drains out of the multiair brick over time. The manual says to start it at least once a month, but in my experience storing a fiat 124 spider over winters is to start it at least every two weeks, otherwise it becomes hard to start. Pairing that to a phev platform where it won't be running all the time and not circulating oil is an interesting choice.

Now if you put the Pentastar it might get interesting and probably more reliable and would be not too bad on gas. And it seemed too small for needs.

I do not agree with your evaluation. The Hornet GT is probably the most interesting and fun-to-drive vehicle in its segment. It proves crossovers don't have to be boring to drive or ugly to look at. Its performance and style to price ratio is spot on. As to the torquey, all aluminum, twin cam 2 litre turbocharged engine, it has proven to be very reliable in other vehicles so it should be reliable here also. It offers far superior performance to the ageing Pentastar lump. As to the Hornet's size, it sits between a small and a medium crossover. For your needs, it may be too small. For others such as myself, it fits my needs perfectly. Horses for courses, I guess.

Multi airs can be reliable if you maintain them religiously like a German or Italian car. The problem is most of the people buying these will have credit too bad to get a Nissan or Kia, meaning they will get absolutely the bare minimum maintenance to keep it running and will almost always use the cheapest fluids and filters available if they even bother to change them. That abuse will kill their longevity.

The reviewer missed a feature about the paddle shifters and center screen configuration. There is a extra power boost that if you press both paddle shifters at the same time it gives you a 30% boost for a few minutes. Also at the end of the wiper stauk there is a button to further configure the outter parts of the screen. so there is a button on the wheel for the center screen and a button on the staulk for the outter screne.

The entire reason for this vehicle being a Dodge is because of complaints that FCA were diverting vehicles meant for Chrysler or Dodge and putting a Jeep badge on them. I think the main market for this vehicle are people who don't like Alfa Romeo's exterior design queues but want the Alfa Romeo drive train. I don't see this vehicle going long term. Chrysler is not shy about ending production of vehicles that don't sell well. They will even end production of vehicles that do sell well if they think they can get better sales with something else. It's the end of the FCA platforms, and the Stellantis platforms are quite a bit better. I think the steering wheel has to do with future parts sharing. The volume and skip/seek thing are an Italian decision. They do the same with temperature and fan speed. I find it annoying for very much the same reason. European Engineers tend to overcomplicate things which is why it's ill-advised for Stellantis to have most of its engineering in Europe.

The Dodge Hornet is really overall a great new CUV by Dodge & Stellantis! However there are 2 negatives going on with the Dodge Hornet here: 1.) The hornet starting price is too expensive, & 2.) The Automotive market right at the moment is in dire straits as nobody is buying cars and trucks! Don't rule the Hornet out as it is a nicely loaded CUV with plenty of power!

That complication of having coolant and other items running front to back and vice versa is definitely adding complication and will make these highly susceptible to being totaled out during a crash event. I'm sure the insurance premiums on this are going to be higher than normal.

Problem solved just get a Dodge Hornet GT with the 2.0 Liter Turbo! Stay away from the RT which is the hybrid. Prices are coming down as well! The front to back coolant lines in the RT hybrid can result in problems such as leaking! EVs aren't popular at all! The American Auto Industry is going through awful times currently! A new Administration wants to save Detroit! The current Administration's NEW GREEN DEAL has been the negative culprit with EV MANDATES! Unfortunately the Dodge Hornet has been unfairly disparaged when in all actuality it is a well engineered small SUV indeed! Be patient as hopefully some sanity regarding pricing will return to acceptable levels within the auto industry!

Also, my drive to work and back is a little less than the range of the battery, so once I get home I plug her in ready for the morning. I only fill the tank every 6-weeks, and my monthly fuel expense is around $27 per month using premium fuel. The regenerative charging is amazing, so much so I can run around all weekend long on a single charge if I limit highway driving. Due to having solar panels on my home, my electricity cost is near zero.

I think the new Dodge Powerwagon is going to shock Ford and GM in the heavy duty truck market. Can't speak to the Chrysler Pacific as never owned one or even seen one reviewed but often used for autonomous vehicle testing. Jeep offering still winning out over the Ford Bronco which says a lot about Jeep as this is a serious effort by Ford to take on the Jeep nameplate. Tesla continues to absolutely dominate growth in the global vehicle market though and this looks set to ramp up big time in North America for the rest of Calendar Year 2024. That this vehicle is going to compete with the Rav4, CRV or Tesla Model Y is of course ridiculous but I guess there was felt a need to "try something." I thought the Pacific could be had as a hybrid so why that couldn't be put into such a product if true is quite the mystery. Plus Stellantis just like GM is suddenly going all in with pure play battery electric full size trucks now so good luck with that one given not just the headstart Ford has had but also Rivian. Plus Rivian is already coming out with an entire 2nd Generation R2 Vehicle lineup. This is all brand new clean sheet stuff which even Tesla is struggling with. Either way Stellantis still has a very impressive market cap unlike Ford and GM.

Just a little backstory. I have a 2014 ram 1500 Laramie. I like it quite a bit, I think the uconnect is a very good system and best that I've ever tried. I also liked the fact that it had separate buttons for most functions. I was looking forward to the Dodge Hornet, as I needed a small car as well to get around town and parking. I took a hard pass on the hornet, after quite a bit of research and actually went way off base and bought a used 2023 Subaru Outback Touring XT about 6 weeks ago. The Outback only had about 8,000 mi on it, and it was $10,000 cheaper than a new identical 2024 Outback. While the Subaru infotainment system isn't nearly as good as uconnect in my opinion, overall I like the Outback.

So they can take the hit and not receive them, or accept them, hold onto them for months, and then sell for a massive discount, but still take less of a loss than if they didn't accept them at all. Pretty crappy way to treat your dealers IMO.

After an hour with this car I found it to be a complete wash. The “performance” dodge emphasized was completely absent. It’s got the gimmicky power shot which gives you a torque bump on launch, but beyond that it had very little response or desire to do so when you pushed it at speed. The 6 speed was sluggish, making the paddle shifters an absolute joke. The trick PHEV setup is pointless because even in electric only mode if you call for too much throttle it’ll re engage the engine. The eAWD seems to exist more for power than it does stability (I drove it during the winter and it didn’t do so well in Canadian snow). And the car feels noticeably heavier than the GT gas only variant. Add the massive cost to it (~55k CAD after rebates) and I was laughing leaving the dealer. The Hornet GT (which I drove back to back with this one) was a much better driving car with a much more capable AWD system, but why would you get a hornet GT when you can get a CX5 / CX50 turbo? Or even a CX30 turbo for that matter.
