Used both. I’d rather have the MacBook learn term than the iPad. The operating system is the reason. I can do more on the macOS than iPadOS. 😊 I love my iPad more tho.

I almost don’t want either. I have a Mac Mini M1 and the latest iPad Mini. I just traded in my MBA M1 because I was considering trading in one of my current device for either a MBA M3 or iPad Pro M4 11. But if I had to pick, and if the price and specs were the same (to include Apple Pencill Pro and Magic Keyboard) I would go for an iPad Pro. I feel like for an upgrader, it’s a pickle. But for a first time user, it is a little easier to decide.

I would suggest the answer comes down to needs. We tend to look at it based on OUR needs thus your comment about needing a MacBook for video creation. I think that for most non tech folks, a cheap 10th gen iPad would ABSOLUTELY fill all their needs better than a fully decked out 3000.00 MacBook Pro. How do I know this? My wife is “most people” and her iPad Air with keyboard is all she needs so much that a MacBook would serve ZERO benefit to her. Heck I have a MacBook with a login for her that she has NOT USED ONCE in the 3 years since I got her the iPad. Not me, I am a geek like you. But you and I are not “most people”. Those types aren’t making KZbin videos. Funny thing is that people who NEED more than an iPad tend to KNOW they need more than an iPad. Therefore, I would say the OPPOSITE is true. MOST PEOPLE would find greater utility in the greater versatility of an iPad as a pencil note-taking, day-planning, handheld couch surfing, ereading, video watching, keyboard when needed for documents, device. While a MacBook is needed for complex tasks, and iPad has a far greater range of simpler tasks that benefit anyone. My wife’s iPad replacing her paper Bible as an example is more important than ANYTHING a MacBook does. Most folks are not rendering videos off an sd card and creating complex excel formulas , with 6 open windows. EVER. Most people who don’t know whether a Mac or iPad is a better single device are better served with an iPad. I would further suggest that comments on tech videos generally are from techies who tend to have both. I don’t think we are making that choice. I mentioned the Bible. I am kind of the tech minister in a congregation of maybe a hundred fifty people. Some know tech. They know what they need. Most who ask iPad versus Mac/PC? I ask what they do and 90 percent of the time I’d recommend iPad. How bout your next video be about comments like mine advocating iPad first opinions. I think it would do well.

A ipad could never be feasible enough for me i have both and the m1max macbook pro is a better alternative for professional video editors and even KZbinrs especially if your editing for more then 8 hrs like me the ipad gets hot after editing around the 5 hours mark of nonstop editing. i do a complex workflow with node trees and color grading masking and a mix of transitions i dont really work with animations but even for most people who are youtubers who edit for hours on end the ipad is true to be a great choice but if you edit long enough youll see when throttling happens and applications like final cut and davinci show there issues

I love the portability / on the go use of the iPad compared to a laptop. Left my MBP at home for the first time, for a 3mth trip to Asia. To my surprise it turned out to be no problem at all! There were a few initial work arounds to begin with. Just plug my iPad into an external display for any heavy duty work. Now the M4 iPad Pro totally replaces my old MBP. No more lugging heavy laptops and charging bricks! 👍😎

Physics PhD: - iPad Pro 13 for everything (notes, papers, remote coding, mails, scheduling) - Mac Mini as a python server (this way, it can just run uninterrupted even when I travel, basically no battery drain and can just use external storage (the fastest 2tb ssd + enclosure costs same as 0.5Tb from Apple). For me, this is perfection. Seriously, I really found it, boyz.

Thanks for the interesting clip, bro! I just bought an iPad Pro M4 13 WiFi a couple of days ago to upgrade from the iPad Pro M2 12.9. I also sold my 6-month-old MacBook Pro M3Pro 18/512. Here are the reasons: The iPad Pro has been my go-to device for almost 2 years now, especially since Apple provides a powerful 12.9-inch iPad Pro. It handles most robust tasks efficiently. I tried using the MacBook Pro again but found it wasn't really worth the money for my usage, so I traded it for a combo: Mac Mini M2 16/256 (for indoor tasks) and the iPad Pro M4. I edit and produce my KZbin clips on LumaFusion, and I found it performs better on the iPad Pro than on the MacBook Pro. Bonus points: the super nice and clear Tandem OLED display and the wonderful luxurious New Magic Keyboard. Voilà! I'm now very satisfied with my choice, and life has never been better! 🥰

Go to the job site, take a bunch of photos, put some marks on them, shoot it off to your subs in 1/2 the time. 3. The other is Grandma. Definitely not, I’ve tried I can’t and I’m a simple user. The most annoying part is that Safari itself still has issues running certain websites, such as government, education, and even simple things like renewing your insurance discount, it can’t manage certain pages of the renewal form on safari. I even tried other browsers and even the ones with flash, and it’s still all the same thing. No, iPad is still pretty good for a lot of productivity situations, but I’d rather it have it as a assistive tablet to my MacBook.

To get information out on an iPad, you can easily share and export files via cloud services like iCloud, Google Drive, SMB, and Dropbox, or use AirDrop to transfer files to other Apple devices. Text files and other documents can be saved and shared in various formats, ensuring compatibility and ease of access across different platforms. The workflow is different to what you’d expect on a traditional desktop but once you are use to that it’s like second nature.

The mistake that I see people Make is that they keep wanting to push the iPad to be a computer. If you think of it as a tablet that can do computer type things, you will appreciate it more. With that said, if you need an actual computer to get things done, get a Mac. In that case, a tablet might be useless to you. If you’re in a situation where you work from home and your company provides you with a laptop, but you don’t want to do personal things on it, an iPad is perfect for you as your personal home device. There are other use cases for iPads that make it a possible buy, it these scenarios are going to be what most people find themselves in.

That was beautifully said. The iPad does break its promise compared to a MacBook. I did get the 13 inch m4 and I love using as my main consumption device. But when it comes to work, it can’t. That’s when I’ll defer to something not necessarily more powerful, but something more capable like my Razer 17. As much as I’d like the 13, I think it’s does what it’s suppose to do great. Being the bridge between my iPhone and Computer. And that’s why I returned the Magic Keyboard. I felt it was trying to be more laptop like when it shouldn’t.

You can’t buy an app one and done. They can also remove those apps and you won’t have it no more. On a Mac that’s not the case. Everything on iPad is dependent on an app and if it doesn’t work you are screwed. But on a Mac you can download the app.dmg file and be good to go.

If you can afford a 13” M4 iPad Pro at 512GB with its magic keyboard and apple pencil pro which cost rougly around 1847USD (education offer), then you can definitely afford a 256GB iPad 10 at 479USD with it apple pencil and a 15” mba at 16GB of unified memory and 512GB of SSD at around 2078USD.. an extra 231USD worth the investment as a university student.. if it is too much, get an M1 macbook air to pair it with the iPad air which cost lesser than to get a 13” M4 iPad pro.. If you are doing arts, then the iPad pro is pretty much a solid choice, but if you don’t need the fluidity or drawing feature on the software limited powerful machine aka iPad pro, just go w mba + ipad air/ipad… ends up saving more money which u can use on other necessities.. ❤correct me if im wrong

Here's the problem with videos like this - it essentially comes from one perspective, a content creator who “needs” a more feature-rich computer to do the tasks required of it. And because the iPad Pro has an OS that is different from that for the Mac, it always seems to be downplayed. In my opinion, this is an unfair criticism of the iPad because while both devices can perform many similar functions, each one has its own niches. Sure, the Macbook is certainly more robust and can handle some applications more efficiently but the iPad Pro has its own niche for many professions. It just depends on one’s needs. However, no one seems to talk about professional uses for the iPads. Many, many students use iPads, many professionals use iPads, many content creators use iPads. It’s an optimized system that can take advantage of a large number of apps that are used in a “professional” manner. Schools, hospitals, emergency personnel, artists, musicians, etc, all of which have their own degree of professional usage, use iPads. Just because most of them don’t make videos or use CAD (as an example), doesn’t minimize the iPad’s purpose and function. So stop downgrading the iPad simply because it can’t do a handful of very specfic applications as well as the Mac. “Professional” is relative. And thousands of people use iPads for important occupations as well as for leisure time. That’s equally as legitimate as those “professionals” that require the functions of Macbooks. Perhaps you can focus on other professions that can benefit from iPads and show that it is a bonafide device with real-world usage without downgrading it because it’s “not a Mac” or doesn’t use MacOS.- or function like MacOS. But then maybe all of your subscribers are professional content creators and software engineers? I’m sure we know what most of them will use. Too bad for the rest of us plebs. 🤷‍♂️

I have used both for years. My iPad Pro 12.9" (2020) is still going strong and was going to replace it. My MacBook Air M1 (also 2020) still going strong. After a few weeks of comparing, I decided to upgrade my MacBook Air to the M3 13" rather than upgrade my iPad Pro. For the same price for both, the MacBook Air M3 just made more sense for the money and ability. If I replaced my iPad Pro - which I have a magic keyboard for and the Apple Pencil, I would also have to replace my magic keyboard as the new iPad Pro is NOT compatible with older magic keyboards; and I would have to replace my pencil, because the pencil also is not compatible with the new iPad Pro. So to get a new MacBook Air M3 in the spec I wanted was $1299. To Replace my iPad Pro would be $1299 for the 13", $129 for the Pencil and $349 for the magic keyboard for a total of $1777 BEFORE TAX! The MacBook Air has for more capabilities than the iPad Pro for the money. Its a no brainer to get a MacBook over the iPad. I love both and both serve a purpose, but overall the MacBook Air M3 wins for me! Its just a portable as an iPad and far more capable. I also traded in my old MacBook Air M1 and got money back from Apple which offset the price of my new MacBook Air, so after the refund for my trade in my new MacBook Air M3 only cost $899! Now I could have done the same with my iPad and traded it in, and overall my end price would have been $1377 for the iPad Pro, keyboard and pencil. BUT then I would have been stuck with an old magic keyboard and pencil and nothing to use it on... so yeah MacBook Air M3 for the WIN!

Maybe something to add here: Mac is a Mouse input device and iPad is a touch first device. As soon as you use your iPad standing up with mouse or trackpad it is compromised compared to the Mac because the UI doesn’t adapt. Additionally hovering your finger over a huge 13 inch touchscreen is not as efficient and precise as quickly navigating a small mouse cursor over a screen. As much as I love the iPad, this will always be a downside and is the reason classic notebooks still exist.

Apple should signal that iPad will eventually over time take over from Mac laptops, leaving MacOS for desktop models. They need a way to migrate to touch and pen interfaces without allowing half-assed application migrations like Windows did. Having an incompatible API forces developers to rebuild. But they cannot maintain the line that iPad is an adjunct device when it costs so much and is so powerful. For the meantime, here is my controversial conclusion: I will use a Windows desktop with an iPad as my only portable device. If you are going to get a Mac to increase the application portfolio, getting a Windows machine instead will do that even better, and it will cost much less for an equivalent specification.
