Any of the frieght apps. Truckstop is probably the best one for hotshot

Im starting my own authority and i wanted any tips on how to build a relationship with brokers as a new authority and how to get past that first 90days with not running myself in a hole... should i email all my info to a few brokers before booking a load?
@TylerTheFieldServiceTechАй бұрын
@ManiRashid-vo5ck You will build a relationship with brokers just by working with them. Some of them will call you for additional loads. Most of them you will never speak to again. Brokers don't dictate the authority requirements it's dictated by the brokerage they work for. They will get your info when you book you a load. When it's your first load with a brokerage, you have to send a carrier packet that has a certificate of insurance in the brokerage's name & a few other documents. You will struggle with authority until you get past your first year. The market was so flooded years back with new hotshots & truckers that the big legit brokerages refused to work with new people. It's gonna be an uphill battle the entire time, man. Brokers will take advantage of you because they know you're new. They will give you shit rates & refuse to negotiate. You really have to earn your place in this cutthroat industry. It's tough, man. not gonna sugar coat it you're in for a battle.

Thanks man.. I've been a fighter my whole life.. Came from a single family home. Everything I have I had to get it on my own and learn on my own. The thing I'm worried about the most is talking to these brokers and not understanding the lingo 😂.. seems like a different language at times.

@ManiRashid-vo5ck It just takes time to learn. You will make mistakes and cost yourself a lot of money and learn from it. All part of it. Best of luck man

Somebody is willing to buy a pick up and a trailer, he wants me to drive for him and go like 40%-60% i want to be otr, do you think that we can both make money? Im down to work 25 days of the month nonstop
@TylerTheFieldServiceTech4 ай бұрын
I read your comment completely wrong the first time my apologies. To be honest you're wasting your time driving hotshot for someone. Go work for Walmart they litterally pay 6 figures and you will be home with much more money and way better benefits. OTR company drivers make usually 90-130k a year with like no expenses. Try to get on with a big ass fleet company that's where your money is for regular trucking

Do you dispatch yourself off load board or you got a dispatcher if so who is a good dispatcher company for hotshot ?
@TylerTheFieldServiceTech10 ай бұрын
I did everything myself. I used a dispatch service for about a month. It created too many issues with my local customers and I basically couldn't find my own anymore because I would basically have to sit somewhere and wait for them to find me a load because if I booked something then it would limit what they could find and vice versa

@@TylerTheFieldServiceTech oh I see . What is the point of a dispatcher if you can just pick a load off the board and call them email them etc ?
@TylerTheFieldServiceTech10 ай бұрын
@mikelopez4148 Well, dispatchers have access to different loads that are not on the board. But they take care of all the paperwork. If it's your first time moving something for a brokerage, you have to fill out a carrier packet, which usually takes 20 minutes plus signing the rate con. So you either have to pull over or have your wife do the paperwork while you're rolling. They also keep you moving from load to load and help fill your trailer if they're good . They usually take like 10% You have to be dedicated to OTR and following the frieght to use them in my opinion

Quick question, if you’re a new authority and hire a dispatcher , can they get you loads 7 days a week ? And how much are most loads as a new authority?
@TylerTheFieldServiceTech Жыл бұрын
90% of freight is M-F. I've had some weekend loads. My dispatcher I had for a short time worked M-F with occasional weekend calls for the next week if I was available. Usually, dispatchers take anywhere from 8-12% of the load rate of the load. You negotiate and sign a contract for that rate. I would get the full amount of the rate then I would factor that and lose 3% then I would have to pay the dispatcher by the end of the following week his percentage of 8%. So every load they booked for me I had to pay 11% between Factoring & dispatch services. Getting loads with a new authority will be a challenge up till 90 days. Then you will still have issues now and then till you have passed your 1 year mark. I ended up only using a dispatch service for about 6 weeks. It created too much conflict with local work and if I had a load problem I wasn't fighting my own battles. It was too hard for me to find my own loads and try to work with a dispatcher at the same time to fill my remaining trailer.

Hey bro I’m just getting started and I’m curious when you first started what was the lowest rate you would accept when first starting out?
@TylerTheFieldServiceTech10 ай бұрын
Lol, when I first started out, my dumbass took a load 1500 miles for 50 cents a mile plus 200 miles of deadhead before and after the load 🤣🤣. The reality is this. Rates are shit still. If you run non cdl, you will really only be able to take partials. Partials pay less than a dollar a mile almost always. Tarped partials usually pay pretty bad, too. The goal is, at a minimum, to be rolling loaded at a 1.50 a mile at an absolute bare minimum. Anything less than that an you're not making much of any profit. When you first start out, you can't negotiate shit they see you are new and will take advantage of you. Also, you will be denied a ton of loads in your first year if you run your own authority. Freight should start picking up here in a couple weeks so the rates will go back up a little. But saturated market with drivers means awful rates.
