I've been using this laptop for 5 years, and it is definitely usable in 2024 still. There are not many complaints here other than the cooling problem, I'll see if I can fix it by cleaning the inside and re-applying the thermal paste.

@@therealzayflics If you do get one, make sure to use a very think keyboard protector cover. This is going to protect any dust from getting under the butterfly keys and causing it to cease working. One downside of the keyboard protector is that due to the low clearance there is a chance of it coming in contact with the anti-reflective coating on the screen, so if you see any impression clean it regularly with soft microfiber cloth for laptop screen. Also, the 2018-19 butterfly keyboard models are more reliable.

I have this computer since it came out and it got me through hs and college. My downside now is just the battery life, the battery just drains faster now but it’s a 7 year old computer so not even mad about that. I think you shouldn’t buy this if you could find a better or newer Mac for a used price. It’s still a good computer but it’s like buying an iPhone 8 in 2024 knowing the battery isn’t gonna be as good as buying an iPhone XS

@@TisDanskthis is late af my bad😭😭. But yeah I 100% agree with the slowness of using multiple windows and certain apps. Whenever I use google docs for writing essays or in general it lags so much and it’s annoying. Eventually I’ll be upgrading to a newer Mac when I sell this one for however much it sells and get either an m1 or m2 Mac. I still love this computer got me through four years of college but it’s time to upgrade. Tech is tech but new tech is always better for doing more.

@@talelust if you can find a working one like I did with only scratches and scuffs that don’t effect it’s daily use or performance for less than $300 I would do it. It’s a beautiful machine and despite its short coming the build quality and ease of use of a relatively modern Mac machine is almost second to none.

The 2017 MacBook Pro can go up to Ventura. Then Sonoma was released after that, and sequoia is coming this fall. After they get the latest major release they get 3 years of support/ security updates.

I like the computer but i hate the keyboard. When i type it just doesn't work, you can't get the right angle on the keys. Also the ribbon cable to the display is bound to break. Quite a tricky repair but otherwise a decent model can be a good machine. I had a few bugs where i became stuck which wasn't ideal when my display wasn't working. But i worked my way through these so far.

If you’re just using it for work stuff like browsing the web, Microsoft apps, etc I would recommend the 2018 MacBook Air. However anything that is more performance heavy might make the 2017 MacBook Pro a good option.

Maybe on adobe premiere, but Apple’s video editing software like Final Cut Pro and iMovie are unsupported. It will also likely be 1080p video editing. Depending on the intensity of video production you do a newer M series MacBook would be better. You can save your files to an external hardrive to save costs on internal storage.

I don't think so processor and graphics wise, but the 2018 air is going to be good enough as long as your not using pro software. The 2018 air also has touch ID and can run the latest version of MacOS which is something to consider.

Everything is soldered, however on the non-touch bar 13” 2017 MacBook Pro you can upgrade the hard drive to I think a 2tb SSD. It uses a proprietary connector so you may want to research adapters specifically designed for that MacBook.

Seems kinda cheap. I would be careful, especially if it’s online. The keyboards on these are known to fail at times and while it may seem fine, there may be a key or two that won’t click right.

Currently it doesn't get the latest major MacOS updates, but you will be able to get about 2-3 years of the latest Microsoft and Adobe apps, and 5+ years of support for web apps and applications downloaded off the web like google chrome.

I think if you were just running DJ software you should be good, but I would lookup the recommended specs from your software provider. If you were to run multiple things at once like lights, ect. it may be better to find one with a quad-core processor and 16gb of ram.

I have never used xcode before and I tried looking up system requirements and was only able to find the minimum macOS version for it. I would recommend maybe looking into a newer macbook like a 2019 one if you want to be able to use it for a few years. It looks like just coding stuff, so I don't think you need a powerful computer to run it well.
