Should you use Bluetooth headphones in the studio? I ask this question while I review the AKG K371-BT headphones :)

Hey Mike, as always, another great video. I too bought some multi use studio headphones that were also Bluetooth, coming with a detachable cable, that could be used in regular headphones mode. The headphones I bought were the Audio Technica ATH-M50xBT. I bought them based on a recommendation from another musician friend of mine who has multiple pairs of similar Audio Technica wired headphones. I have recorded quite a few times at his home studio and they are very comfortable to wear for longer periods of time. I guess one of the only real advantages that mine have over the AKG headphones is that the cable connecting them is non-proprietary. It is a simple 3.5 mil headphone jack input. It makes buying a replacement cable much easier. But as you say, the AKG headphones do come with three cables. As I said before, another great video. I always look forward to your videos being released. Keep them coming Mike!!

I am a novice and been playing music for over 20 years. We always use to burn a cd and i would play it in my truck because I listen to so much music in there. This makes complete sense. I still do this with my youtube songs. I use Direct Sound headphones on my multitrack recorder or my monitors and then listen to the mix on my bluetooth cheap JBL's.

I have a pair of closed back, wired AKG K271 MkII's that I love. If you pull one of the phones (or both) off your ears, they automatically mute. Pretty sweet feature! Sound is great as well. Thanks for the review!

I totally agree on the use of headphones. Because of my current living situation I do everything with headphones. So I listen to commercial music and my music on headphones, car stereo as well as my monitors when I can. So I use all of these methods for reference. It's not ideal but it works. Appreciate you and your knowledge very much😎🎼✌️

No actually, some good ones are not too expensive, for example the AKG K240s.

Following your theory, it should be possible to mix a song like a professional with any headphones you are used to. Or have I misunderstood something?

Its a good point you make. The thing is, referencing other recordings is only part of the task. When you go from consumer headphones to those more suitable for studio work, there are other elements of what is there, which are revealed to you.

Having said that, the most important aspect of studio transducers - linear response. I've looked at the specs on their website and it fails to mention the frequency response. You mention it's flat, but are there any graphs available?

I'm watching your video on my bluetooth studio headphones (Sonorworks individually calibrated) Audio-Technica not AKG though. Standard 3.5mm jack though, as I dislike non generic connectors.

I find it rather strange that you never addressed the fact that if you are using Bluetooth headphones you are therefore depending on the quality of the digital to analog converter built into the phones rather that the D/A converter in your audio interface as would be the case with normal wired analog headphones. Do you really think that is going to be a high quality D/A conversion? Why pay for two D/A converters? You would be better off putting the same total amount of money in a better single D/A converter.

Smartphones are ditching-out the jack port (thx apple for that brillant idea ... that is not !) ; I think that bluetooth have its place in a studio to monitor the "final" track ... and maybe include them into your mix/mastering session in order to quickly find out what to do. Having said that, bluetooth is very bad quality but the worst part is that it seems to be the new standard for music consumers (...).

They are the best headphones that I was using with my Ableton Live 11 while connecting through bluetooth! Why was? The headband snap while expanding! Cheap plastic!!! Today they are short of materials to make appropriate repairs and are estimating repairs no sooner than November! That's unacceptable!

@@CreativeSauce It could only EVER be an advantage if you were recording/mixing ONLY for noise cancelling headphones, and that would be unlikely. I know you've got to make a buck with the product placement mate, but it's getting a bit silly.

@@CreativeSauce I mean... noise cancelling headphones... In the studio? You're using a consumer reference, which I understand, but in a studio environment to mix and record? The alterations to human Binaural perception alone! Why don't you carry out some MUSHRA testing? The results may proove your point.
@CreativeSauce

@@stevejones3868 , these are not noise cancelling headphones. I'm not sure why you keep raising that.
