I don't really do athletic stuff, I'm actually a CNA and I got a SLAP tear while at work on 6/13/23. I was finishing a 16 hour shift and had 4 hours left when I got injured from helping a patient up in bed. It was a maneuver I've done a thousand times but I guess this was just that one too many. I didn't realize at the time that I was hurt until the next day when I couldn't move my arm without it feeling like I ticked off a Wookie (always let the Wookie win!). I started a claim, did OT appointments, PT appointments and finally wound up with an ortho specialist but it wasn't the one I was referred to by OT, L&I sent me to a different doctor. Got an MRI, he said the tear was "itty bitty" and that there was "nothing to do surgery on" so he had me do more PT, then cortisone shots which didn't work. It actually made it hurt more for a week or so before going back to the standard. I had 4/10 pain resting and 8/10 after activity before the shots, it went up to 6/10 and about 9.5/10 after activity post shots. I did MORE PT and a couple months later he wanted me to do _more_ shots until I got a 2nd opinion. I got it from the first Doctor I was referred to by my OT Doc, who was HIGHLY recommended by both coworkers and patients that I work with. He said that I'd done all of the conventional treatments but since they didn't work I'd probably benefit from surgery. I took this info to my main Ortho PCP but he brushed it off and even feigned not knowing the other Doctor, emphasizing that we shouldn't "jump straight to surgery" (which in my opinion, 6-7 months later of treatments didn't seem like " _jumping straight to surgery_ " to me) and still wanted me to do more cortisone shots but I worried about any development of osteonecrosis. I had to consult a lawyer about my situation and he confirmed my suspicions that I was getting jerked around and helped me with the right words to get a transfer of care (7 months later!). So now I'm seeing the 2nd Dr, and I'll be getting my Pre-op today (1/16/24). I've been having anxiety and fear and paranoia and the like and idk what to do with myself.

I suffered a labral tear about 8 years ago. I did not have surgery, and was fine until recently, when during a martial arts class, I was hit hard in the shoulder, and it seemed to trigger the initial tear. I now have the same limited movement I had in 2016, and while I can still perform, I cannot do my favorite exercise - push-ups. I was doing about 250 a day, and now I can't do 1 without significant pain. Question: should I wait until the pain subsides to resume, or should I just power through it? I hate to see all the muscle mass start to atrophy. Thanks.
