I always hate reviews like this movie is getting that are like "The movie's not great, but kids will like it. 3/5." I grew up with shows like Batman the Animated Series and Pixar movies. Just because something is geared towards children or families does not give it a pass to suck or be unsophisticated.

Oh man. Dave would love this story: Once upon a time, I worked at a Babies R Us. Obviously, it was a store that catered to babies and pregnant women. You think the fact it means human babies and pregnant women would be implied, right? Well, one day, a couple came in with a pair of dogs. At no point, though, did they ever refer to them as dogs. They kept calling them their "kids" or their "children". I shit you not, they asked for a stroller that was "better designed for children like theirs". There was no hint of humor or sarcasm in their voices *at all*. They were calling these dogs their kids with the same legitimate tone of voice that I would use in calling my actual offspring my kid. It was so fucking weird. It never fully registered to them that we only sold shit for humans.

I'm sad to say I actually went to go see this. It's not good. However it's also not the worst thing I've seen in theaters. In fact, there's one movie I saw in a theater that I know Dave also saw in a theater which I know is worse than this: Unfriended Dave did you really consider this movie worse than Unfriended? At least this movie had cute dogs in it, and Will Arnett clearly recognizing that he was in a bad movie and still acting There was nothing redeemable about Unfriended.

Raja Gosnell also did Home Alone 3 (edited the first two as well), Never Been Kissed and the first Big Momma’s House. Home Alone 3 is not good, but not awful and Big Momma’s House is debatable depending on who you ask. I’ve heard most people like Never Been Kissed, so take from that what you will.

Reason why this is in so many theaters: there's kind of an absence of kid-oriented films in theaters at the moment. Many theaters try to keep at least 1 kid-friendly movie available at all times. The last widely released kids movie was Sherlock Gnomes. So it was either have a wide release of this or keep Sherlock Gnomes in theaters until Incredibles 2 comes out.
