It's the same in ice figure skating. There's a certain level of prejudice and disparagement of men in ballet/figure skating in culture, primarily those in the Anglosphere. Most Americans, especially men will immediately make judgements about their sexuality when the reality is that most of these ballerinos are straight, and who are simply in tune with their "feminine" side.

@@embreis2257 I went to dance school once a week when I was 6 yo to 8 or 9yo; it was a non-competitive, non-elitist school (but the teacher was still very strict - at least according to my childish standards, I don't know how strict I would consider her now). I stopped going to the school a few monthes after starting using pointed shoes. I've never been injured. (After the school dance, I started horse riding. There, I've been injured A LOT and broke my bones a couple of times. After 10 years of falls, I stopped riding too).
