Speaking calmly while talking rubbish is a parlour trick. I can calmly say this: the bill rewrites the Treaty by changing its meaning, and ignores the decisions by NZ courts on what it means, and agreements with the Treaty partner on what the it means. Saying that the words of the Treaty remains the same, but changing what it means by a law is laughable. To hear even calmer people say this in posh voices, how about the 42 Kings Counsel (top NZ lawyers promoted by their peers) have written to the PM and AG to say stop the bill, cos its bad law. Well done David, it’s about time TVNZ we’re put in their place. Shame it’s state funded. How many times does Maori want to be compensated, England was ruled by Romans for 300 years and you don’t hear them complaining about it, nor asking for compensation from Rome. How about the gangs pay reparations, I’m sure they have done more wrong in recent years than historical ones, and certainly had as much if not a greater impact on people’s lives.

What annoys me the 10% wannabe Maori Packer asked the house to acknowledge and honour the deaths of some Maori at the hands of some colonial troops....while she would never acknowledge an entire village of 46 Europeans and many more half Europeans who lived with them who were slaughtered (near Hastings) by TeKooti and his hau haus. Then TeKooti and his gang lay about rolling in the gore of their murdered victims, singing and laughing. There were many cases of early settlers being slaughtered and even eaten. Until there is fairness and understanding with non bias reporting - acknowledgement that there were wrongs on both sides we cannot leave these unfortunate events to the pages of history and move forward. There were not only Maori victims, but many European victims also, but Maori do not apologise for these events, nor should they, today's Maori are not responsible for their cannibal ancestors.

Maori agreed to a Treaty, not conquest. It was the Government who breached many parts of that. Sometimes with Maori allies. Treaty settlements are well researched, and nothing like Roman conquest (& expulsion), which is an example the principle gets twisted from different perspectives, and narrow mindedness thrives on both sides. The intentional avoidance of decent standards by gangs and the victimised/blame card is something else. Personal responsibility is notably absent for the Maori Party's rants & have yet to hear J-M C mention that on the news.

The monster TeKooti struck in the middle of the night when the village was at sleep. If there is to be any fairness both sides must be told. There were many vicious wrongs committed by Maori also. Many Maori are uncomfortable with those Maori pushing division. Inclusiveness is way overrated it seems. but tolerance instead of division has far more potential for improvement. This was very apparent when working among the locals up North, sorting out the grifters & parasites got respect, and provided a path for the interested to progress constructively. The gang/meth situation has probably undermined that further. The fact many Maori do not support the more radical and divisive themes contributes greatly to NZ's positive future.

Maori have the unique position as the Treaty partner and are not just simply ordinary citizens. This is guaranteed in the Treaty. Seymour is attempting to minimalize Maori's standing here!
