The title pretty much says it all. We make some door panels on the absolute CHEAP. I sourced out as much water resistant material as I could find since this hot rod has no roof and will probably spend its life outside.
Grand total of $100 dollars and a little time turned out a set of unique panels seasoned to my taste. Who doesn't like a little plaid in their life?

Future Dan, next go round find you some stainless staples.just long enough to bend over on back side. And, staples through board under upholstery.when you pull edge over to back side, can hook upholstery to them and bend staples over.

To drill through upholstery and carpet, sharpen a piece of tubing. Or use gasket punch. I have a gasket punch kit, works super slick!

Thanks for the tip, almost like leather tooling tool's. I made my own steering wheel cover from a black leather purse I found at the second hand store. I cut 4 stripes swad and smooth leather sowed all the pieces then drilled holes before hand stitching. Next time I will glue it first then stitch it up. The swad turn smooth after a while from my hands on the steering wheel. It looked very cool. I welded a cob web on the wheel clear coated the metal the Grant chrome looked okay. For a free steering wheel I made look nice. I built the center cancel for my 1972 suburban, I made the box to hold a small cooler with a lid and cup holder's out of wood. Upholstered it with speaker carpet. My little dog sat on top of the box lid. After awhile the carpet looked matted. If I was to do it again I would have laid vinal over the wood. I just used the left overs from the speaker boxes I made. It match the carpet. Now that KZbin came along I will know how to make a much better one with a cool design with wood and spray on foam to add shape to it before padding and cover it. So it has the puffy look so it can be right and tight. ✌🏽👍🏾

PERFECT. In the 1950's a lot of cars offered plaid fabric as an option. Of course it was not the bright buffalo check you used, but your retro update suites the great white north you represent. Love it.

Dan after you bought the material for your interior, I was watching other video's of upholstery job's they were using Velcro and magnets to make stuff stick lots of glues and staples. I saw the Meca guy do a trunk on a 1956 Chevy with side door panel's to get to the quarter panel. Any how wish there was you tube when I did my car year's ago I didn't know what I was doing it came out cool for a home job. Most didn't know or care to even ask.

The panels look great, nice work. Tip for the future, as stated by someone else shoot your staples from the front to the back so you can fold the legs over and get them to hold better, also, when drilling through fabric or carpet run your drill in reverse just to get through the material, it won’t snag and pull it that way but will still cut through it. As always I love the content 👍

the title made me think the diamond plate cover was a shower curtain, and i wondered where you got a padded diamond shower curtain. if you wanted a wider divider strip, you could use a aluminum threshold bar for the transition between carpet and linoleum, or in doorways. it comes with twisted nails, but you can just use small screws, or rivets to hold it to the door panel. using coroplast for a panel backer, and stainless steel snap buttons to hold it to the door is genius! that's one to file away for the future. waterproof, and easily removable door panels. whooda thunk?

A fellow, not too far from me in southeast Missouri, had a Carson top rebuilt for his Muntz Jet. I saw the top when all that was left was the frame with what looked like chicken wire stretched across it. I never saw it again until it was done but an upholstering shop did the top, not a big shop just a mom and pop shop. It looked great, he said it weighed a bunch and was not easy to get on and off. The car was yellow, the top was white, if you think your Nomad was a pile of rust it had nothing on the Muntz. The fellow that restored it was Englishman who moved back to England several years ago. There can't be many yellow with white top Muntz Jets around so if you see a picture of one it is probably the one he did.

4 minutes in... I am intrigued to see how this turns out. I will edit this when I see how it turns out. EDIT - Ok so after watching it to the end, this looks perfect to do for my truck. Same basic panels. I am not sure that the red will hold up well to sun light but that is a down the road thing to watch. I also wonder why a guy can't just use snaps to hold the panel to the door. I will use this method. I hope Amazon sells more than just black, but I can live with it if that is my only choice.
