Perfect, I've been trying to find a video which shows how to install the waste pipe once you've put the tray down

I see you applied silicone into the joint and onto the paper laminated gypsum wallboard rather than install an upstand seal. This is a surprise!

My definition of cowboy.. Im not even a plumber and have tested the waste pipe for leaks.. also no class seal user around the tray, plywood instead of tongue and groove moisture resistant chip board.. this guy's a cowboy. End of story.

Few concerns I have with this installation, 1. There is No water tanking in and around shower tray area, 2. He did not install the fixings to the tray first with correct silicon etc, instead forces the O ring through the hole, 3. When he tightens the waste pipe after the glue he does not hold the existing black plumbing pipes which are shaken unnecessarily. 4. No need to use silicon unber the tray what will you do if you want to replace it in the future..

I used tile adhesive under tray..

Great stuff. You don't have to bed the tray down in cement? What do you use as glue? Also what is the side walls?

I used solvent base silicone to stick tray to plywood . However if you use silicone the floor has to be ideal level as the silicone thickness is just few millimeters .For concrete floor or uneven floor I will use rapid set tile adhesive.

A really good video showing how NOT to install a shower tray. Plasterboard sides, no check for leaks in waste, no tanking, no proper seal (e.g. Flexi seal around tray). Disaster waiting to happen!

can you join the shower waste pipe to the sink waste pipe and run the one pipe to the stack or do they have to have there own individual pipe,cheers

What brand shower tray is it, most say use the cement sand mix but cant see why really when i have a perfectly flat floor do some trays need it to help support, Cheers
@SkillBuilder6 жыл бұрын
a lot of trays aren't flat. If you stick a level across the back you will see bows and all sorts. Hence the bed of sand and cement. There is no tensile strength in these cast trays and the can snap, then the manufaacturer has a get out.

It looks easy but actually it’s not , sometimes we have to cut tiles make a frame , level it , they put the tray and then silicone it and then tiling.

Wow how bad was that, so many things on the market today from tanking to waterproof boards, and plasterboard will only rot away with in 2 years.
@wiggers414 жыл бұрын
Totally agree, also getting the tray level with just the blobs of silicone zoro tolerance for getting it level I install lots of Mira flight safe trays manufacturers state sand and cement only.
@Jdcarpentrycov4 жыл бұрын
wiggers would you use osb then sand and cement to get tray level ? Looking at installing one myself for the first time. Tips appreciated

So many gimmicky things on the market you mean. Nothing more waterproof than normal plasterboard and tiles done properly.

Nice idea to glue with silicon. The only thing is that I do not see any p-trap, so how are you preventing sewer gas and other smells from coming back?
@stevethomas58495 жыл бұрын
The waste has an integral trap .

Have to be careful with what you stick trays down with and follow the manufacturer's instructions or they won't guarantee them. Instructions I've seen either say 'a suitable adhesive' (vague!) or sand/cement mix. I've just lifted one that was stuck down with blobs of tile adhesive and it moved when you stood in it, which looks like it caused a crack on one side (fortunately not where any water went). Generally you don't want movement so silicone, which is flexible, strikes me as a bad idea.

cant understand why most videos on youtube say put the tray on silicone-wrong 99% of tray instructions say sand cement
