After following this video we established that the thermal switch (tco) 416.41 did not have continuity and ordered a spare from Shower Doctor which arrived promptly. My husband was able to replace the faulty thermal switch with ease, thanks to the brilliant video, saving us an absolute fortune, and the hassle of replacing an otherwise functioning shower. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I found Shower Doctor years ago. As a plumber I was tired of throwing plastic into landfill. I now direct all customers to them and occasional buy the part myself, before doing this kind of faffy but environmentally honest job.

Showerdoc, you have no idea how much you have saved me by just watching this video. I struggled to get a plumber and when i finally got hold of one, they said my electric shower has to be replaced and quoted circa £400 for everything. I did not feel comfortable with this so decided to do some research which brought me to this video. I called Mira, ordered the TCO (£19), watched your step by step video and got my electric shower bringing back hot water in under an hour of my time. FYI, i am no DIY beginner, intermediate or expert. If i could do this with the help of your video, anyone else can. You have saved me hundreds of pounds. I will like to donate something small to any charity you support so please reach out. Thank you.

I had a perfectly working shower except that the water was cold (same model). I followed this great video and fixed it with very little hassle. Went slowly and carefully, had to stand on the edge of the bath. One difference between the video and my shower was that the two thick brown wires at the top were held together with a small plastic cable tie which I snipped to make it easier to get the old part out. Thanks a lot.
@SuperGamberoni Жыл бұрын
Thank you for this, hugely helpful. Our wiring was a little more complex than the example and we had significant rust on the TCO and the top of the heating unit, but some light sanding with emery paper took the rust off.Getting the screws to sit properly was a little tricky - they kept trying to cross thread themselves - but got it done. Took about an hour altogether, but a lot of that was finding some electricians tape to hold the wires together while I sanded. Great news was as soon as we powered on again the shower worked perfectly and it stil does.

Useful video. I've just replaced the thermal switch part number 1563.719 in my Mora Sports Thermostatic shower which has a larger casing overlap than the one you were demonstrating on. For anyone else replacing this part, the secret is to remove the two screws holding the inlet clamp, the two screws retaining the heater tank to the casing and the one screw holding the temperature cam pulley/inlet valve assembly to the casing. This then releases the heater tank enough to ger access to the T15 screws. I temporarily fixed the thermal switch in place using the single T15 screw so it was more stable when I attached the cables to its two terminal. Job done and thanks for the video

Thanks for this superb video. It always adds a degree of professionalism if you show competence witha multimeter and thanks to you, I was able to do so. I have replaced a few of these before and it never occurred to me to just loosen the earth pole screw, instead of removing it completely and carefully leaving the remaining two screws in situ, in the wire connectors. I managed to cannabilise an old TCO from another Mira shower. The job was done for a mate and he had just bought a like-for-like shower for a staggering £320!! He was made up when the repair saved him just under £300, as he was set to take a modest holiday with his family and money would have been tight if the complete unit had been changed. I have purchaed Shower Doctor products on more than a few occassions and in gratitude, will order another 416.41 ASAP.

I had to laugh when you said taking a picture or two was essential. My sons shower was cutting out so after viewing a couple of your vids, I purchased a TCO and a solenoid. The shower in question a Mira Jump Mk 1. I could not find a vid for that particular unit. I thought I would replace both to be sure. Well the solenoid was a devil to get out and get the replacement in, not much room for sausage fingers, but eventually I got it in. Now the TCO, well I had fully intended taking the pics, but forgot. getting it out was a nightmare as was getting it the replacement back in after much ado it was in place but I had forgotten where the 2 x blue wires and 2 Brown went. I was sick to the stomach thought I had really screwed up. After a pause and a cuppa I went back put them where I thought they should be put cover back on flipped the switch in the fuse box and pulled the cord, pressed the button, and low and behold a working shower. £25 for parts, plus some anxiety of my own creation saved abt. £180 + for a replacement plus fitting. Ever so grateful for you guidance and superb videos. Thank you.

Thank you. If only more youtube videos were this clear, excellent. Has anyone tried 'popping' their faulty thermal switch back into life? I've done so with what I assume to be an equivalent switch in tumble driers by throwing them on the floor a few times until you hear a pop (which is the stuck metal diaphragm resetting). Curious to hear if anyone has tried that with a shower thermal switch.

Really good video. By the way you might have rust underneath the TCO where it sits on the gold coloured top of the water tank. This is also the why you get cold water and overheat light. It took me 30 mins of sanding to get most of the rust off under the TCO and on the gold top. This creates a good connection again. This even saved me having to buy a new TCO.

You didn't mention a splash guard at all in the video. I had this small thin flap of plastic fall on the floor when I removed the cover and on it it said warning do not remove splashguard. I am a bit confused as didn't know if this was the splashguard or not and couldn't see how to put it back in. On your video you made no mention of it so I assumed it couldn't be the 'splashguard' and was probably just there to give the message. Can you shed any light on this, my model is a Mira Sprint. I did follow your very helpful video and managed to replace the part and fix the problem so I am very happy. Purchased the part from your link too, rude not to!

Hi, wonder if you could help me please. I was just about to order the Thermal Switch for our Mira Sport Max Air Boost 10.8kw, having confirmed the heater was ok but the Thermal Switch had no continuity, when I read this on your site in an answer by Barrie - “After fitting a new TCO When fitting a new TCO listen to the shower, after it has completed its first on/off cycle, if when it is switched off you hear it continuing to heat (Noise like a kettle starting to boil) this will mean that there is a switch or a relay that is stuck in the on position, this is keeping an element energised and this is probably what caused the original TCO to fail. If this is the case replace the faulty switch or relay and make sure that you switch the shower off at the isolating switch when the shower is not in use because this may cause the new TCO to fail.” This “kettle boiling” description almost exactly describes what my wife heard immediately after she finished her shower. She found it disturbing and asked me to check the shower. The result being that it all worked fine but no hot water on any setting. My question is, “how can I tell which component (ie. Switch/relay) is stuck, and caused the Thermal Switch to trip/fail.”? Many thanks, Kind regards, Mike
@johng77872 жыл бұрын
What can cause a TCO to keep failing? 3 in 3 weeks. Water flow appears ok and also changed inlet filter which had no signs of scaling as I don’t think we have hard water. Prior to failing there’s no fluctuation in temperature. Take a shower and all good then the next time cold with continuity showing 1. It reads zero when fitting new TCO. Heating elements test at 11.3 and 11.2 ohms. Any ideas would be most welcome Thanks

So having had my TCO replaced what would cause it to fail again in a short space of time? I have observed a slightly louder mains hum than usual from(I am assuming) the heating element, faulty heating element?
@averri14 жыл бұрын
Hi Patrick, the lime deposits inside the boiler can cause the TCO to fail completely. This happens because the lime reduces the ability of the heating element to exchange heat with the water, so it overheats and the TCO cuts off permanently. This is a safety design.
