BANGERTV - All Metal.. that is unfortunate. I applaud you on the show, but a lot of us had no idea about it until now. Would've expected you to leave some slots open considering you're in the earlier stages of viewership. Hoping the quality of players grows, or sadly there won't be a season 2.

I couldnt disagree more if I tried to, really. Love that theyre sticking to the one genre. I think the show is called Shredders of Metal brah. Akherousia502 I laughed. That was so "melodic"
@Akherousia5026 жыл бұрын
You're correct, but even if I were particularly fond of basing my scales around harmonic minor - which I am - I wouldn't describe my style as 'harmonic' because that would imply, in this context, the excessive use of harmonies, not an actual reference to a particular scale. That's what makes it so silly. Also, to continue playing devil's advocate against myself, one could easily argue that melody can exist in arpeggios passing from key to key if those key changes imply a melody of their own. When tastefully done, it can be quite brilliant, and is the basis for a lot of classical compositions - as well as a trademark approach of Malmsteen, whom you've brought up. The thing is, that requires tasteful use, whereas this genuinely felt more like arpeggio runs in random keys. Hence, not particularly melodic. He's trying to emulate a style that can be melodic, but in a very robotic way that misses the point entirely.

BTW thanks Banger TV for a show like this for the shredders left in the world.
@jeffcrawford27486 жыл бұрын
3 was definitely the better of them. You felt good, so you must be pretty good. Keep in mind some of them are a bit awkward. I can't believe, seeing the shredders available on KZbin, they actually couldn't find, maybe more musical players. Like Stevie T, Dines, and on and on... there is a fourteen years old girl I imagine would of been available that plays circles around some of these players. I saw a comment about this and Guitar Center, actually the average player here at Guitar Center would astound the audience here who are maybe impressed by these contestants.

@KrazyKawiZX6R6 жыл бұрын
I've played guitar for 20 years now. And the biggest mistake I've ever seen from so many guitarist is that, they'd rather play as fast as possible rather than well. The speed comes with muscle memory over time. I'd rather play well and things with more feeling than some sloppy mess of notes played incoherently. Playing fast is much more impressive when it's clean, controlled and still has feeling. Playing the same pattern at different frets as fast as possible shows a lack of creativity and imo is extremely boring.
@tarkus10566 жыл бұрын
Some constructive criticism: 1.- Who is doing the mixing? All of them sounded like crap. 2.- For the love of God, give them a backing track. 3.- The feedback from the judges is very limited and occasional. All three should give theie opinion. 4.-The shredding a paper with the name of the dude is unnecessary.

@alantinoalantonio6 жыл бұрын
Matthew May Best comment on here lol
@aylbdrmadison10516 жыл бұрын
Scooped tone works great if you're _playing by, or with, yourself._ But as soon as you're in a band setting, mids are your best friend (no matter what genre). I still play with a somewhat scooped tone in metal bands, certainly more than I would in any other genre, but saying _almost no mids_ is just earless nonsense, or someone who's never gigged and recorded professionally. For starters, remember that adding bass to a mix is easy, but adding mids, _and especially treble,_ to a mix creates noise. So give the sound engineer some room to help your band sound great, instead of giving them a mushy signal that they struggle to make sound heavy and well defined. I suppose for some bands sounding muddy is what's wanted, but for most metal bands, you need tightness and definition for it to sound heavy. And that's why mids are so important . . . A typical good tone for metal when playing alone: Bass 8-9, Mids 2-3, Treble 5-8. A typically good tone for playing in a band: Bass 7-9 (this setting depends a Lot on what the bass player is set to), Mids 3-6, Treble 6-8 (still a scooped tone, but with far superior definition). Also, when playing in a band, dial back the distortion _crutch_ some (don't get me wrong, I love high gain metal, maybe too much). Of course these settings all change because of the differences in amps, and especially guitars, but mids and less distortion become increasingly important depending on how many other players in a band and what their actual instrumentation is. Remember, it's not _all_ about the guitar, it _is_ all about the mix. For other genres, especially country, crank the shit outta your mids. It may sound awful when playing alone, but in a band it sounds far far better. And unless you play very badly, you'll thank me. It's the same thing most bass players fail at, they often think that the bass tone setting is the only one that matters, but the best metal bass tones have some boom ofc, but also sound like someone dropping a car engine onto an anvil. That means there is a Lot of low mids, and some highs also. This helps the bass player to cut through the mix, especially if you want an extra heavy bottom end on the kick drums. But if you want the band to sound muddy as a whole, and for no one to be able to hear all the guitarists mistakes, then by all means, lose the mids and crank the gain all the way up. Some of the tones in this video were achieved that way. You can hide the bass players mistakes by not using mids also.

Reactions/criticism seemed sugar coated a lot of times. Don't be jerks, obviously, but tell it how it is and elaborate as much as possible. it was awesome , the whole series was like a metal lunch for the metalhearts. i really got inspired and will try to take those tips to mind . thank you and i hope there be many more shedders of metal battles.

So...these are the only contestants throughout the entire show, or will someone else join in next episode? Cause it’s already clear that number 3 is the only one here with skills :)
@Killa117er6 жыл бұрын
Really cool show. Also it debunks the myth that pro or semi pro players are super human or got some kind of god given talent. Watching some of the players make mistakes really shows that no matter what, practice makes perfect.

#3 has blown the first two completely out of the water so far. Could barely listen to the first two, sounded sloppy, might've been the tone and nerves. Kind of liked #6 too, but that's about it. Right guy went home. Promising show idea though!

I remember the first time I saw Sam Dunn. He did his documentary on black metal and instantly enjoyed his history and knowledgeable of all kinds of metal. And who doesn't love Alex of TSO and TestAmenT? 🤘

Met him during a showing of the documentary in Bergen, Norway in 2008ish. Hella pleasant guy :)

Do one episode where every contestant has to do their own solo over 1 Testament song, it would be cool to see Alex critique the hell out of that! I enjoyed the fact they had no backing tracks tbh but it would be cool if there is 1 episode where they do and just change the challenges every episode 👍 or maybe an episode where no sweeping is allowed!

Only a few of these players understood the importance of good bends and vibrato. Always a good tell of an experienced guitar player.

It might just be me but the last contestant, Rick, his solo was my favorite. By far the most original and interesting one to me. Bri started out strong but Daniel was right she needs to lay of the noise gate because it hurt her performance. I say all of this as a Rhythm guitar layer though, so what do I know haha.

Great series, awesome setup and production. The humor and charisma is there. The only thing is i hate shredding. I really do.

Yeah, solars are cool! I actually have a Washburn Solar Custom Shop that doesn't have a logo. The US factory got closed so they didn't have time to put a logo on, everything else is perfect on it. It looks really good with just a black headstock, probably is the only one of it's kind.

So they must of went to the local guitar center and picked up these amateurs. Horrible technique and feel. Should have some 10 year old Asian kids on this show. We’ll see some decent shredding then
