check out charlie parr. He is a folk singer from the US and is amazing. There are also a bunch of really good and amazing bluegrass bands these days. There is real music out there it just depends on where you look.

I am broken hearted that Blackie lost his best buddy and wingman this month (Sept 2024), Irish musician Cyril O'Donohugh a native of County Clare and a true legend of Irish trad music, singer, song writer and musician extraordinaire. Blackie and Cyril always used to play at 47:17 "Gol na mBan san Ar" and that sublime transition into the jig at 51:06 called "Cnocán An Teampaill' for me and the whole pub would be just bloody ROCKING! What happy evenings and memories we shared in McGann's and McDermotts in Doolin over the years with people from all over the world. Truly world class talents. Sessions in Clare will never be the same without you Cyril. We all love and miss you man. 🙏💔

Thanks for the music Trio! I said good bye to the physical remains of my dog buddy in Iceland coasts with the instrumental that starts around min 47:00 as a background. This song was allways powerful for me, but now even more. I will be in the same "place" as you one day. I love you my friend. Miss you. Thanks for our time together.

Some music is of the universe. Doesn't matter what genre it is. It is generally any musician who, rather than 'play' the music, they just simply 'become' the music, and the music plays through them. Then it connects instantly on an emotional level, with an audience/listener. Best thing i've been hypnotised by, for a long time. Thank you

Great way of putting it, only add more like a 100 years and plus bearing in mind all were influenced themselves in turn from the older Irish music makers. He really reminds me of a mix of a few, most notably 2 or 3 old greats, and can't compliment more than that really. Frank Harte, Paul Brady , Jimmy Crowley and the audience communication of Ronnie Drew But I can compliment more as he is himself a music man in his own right, that takes some achieving in our extremely rich musical culture. And it helps having great musicians around ye.

Blackie is easily in the top 4 living Uilleann Pipers (and the youngest of course by a long way) but what a mighty talent he is! So good to hear Daoiri singing The Valley of Knockanure in England which tends to remind me of the 1960’s performance of Peter, Paul and Mary at the BBC when they sang The Rising of The Moon to great applause of the mainly British audience who clearly did not have a clue of the reliance to British / Irish history. Brilliant performance by these lads though, I do hope they are invited back again to Shrewsbury FF when conditions allow!

@@stevendenny7260 'Im kinda with both ye , but then Luke was only the best since Frank Harte or yer man from Wexford! Pecker Dunne, or was it Mayo, sure he was a Travellin man, among the saviours by default of Irish trad music.
@skippership73 жыл бұрын
I'm kind of with you there as well lads and I have seen Daoiri and many times over the years in Ireland and there no doubt he is great talent however for me Ger O Donnell from Limerick has both a much better voice and is a much more accomplished technical musician. That said, Cyril O'Donohuge who plays with Blackie in Dubhlinn Band is a great all-round composer, singer and musician and for me they are the most exciting live Trad band since Planxty or Moving Hearts, but everyones opinion will differ of course. Good luck lads and keep on supporting these great live trad musicians...whatever your preferences maybe.
