I just got home from the emergency room. I was having extreme pains for two days. I thought it was appendicitis I’ve been constipated for a few weeks I was only able to have bowel movement with the aid of laxative. I also noticed that I was urinating frequently in the past few days. A CT scan revealed a fibroid. The pain is similar to labor pains. Pelvic, lower back and leg pain mostly on the right side of my body. I’m very surprised that it’s affecting me now that I’m menopausal for about 4 years or so. Hello Dr Sylvia. I must point out how impressed I am that you return to these older videos to reply to your viewers from that time. Thank you. It can be annoying when KZbinrs are asked questions on their videos, yet no time is taken to reply to their viewers. I have a subserosal fibroid which is 82 x 44 x 44mm. Another one is a right anterior fundal which is 52 x 50 x 68mm, amongst other fibroids measuring 15mm to 55mm. I was given a leaflet about embolisation, (only after my asking, mind you) but the copy letter I received from the consultant which she also sent to my GP, clearly states that they do not think artery embolisation SHOULD be an option and goes on to emphasise a hysterectomy, something I am against and made crystal clear. I am late 50s and menopausal, but taking HRT patches. I categorically do not want a hysterectomy. I feel the option to either shrink or do the embolisation was brushed under the carpet and almost an afterthought by the consultant when I pushed for the info. I have had both ovaries out, along with cysts, the last op being in 2019. Why would they not want to at least try the embolisation method, knowing I am so against a hysterectomy? Menopuase has not shrunk them it seems, and I have been using HRT patches. I am at my wits' end as the doctors do not seem to be listening to me. I know you don't know my history, Dr Sylvia, but your talks are informative and thorough without you playing to the camera. I dont need jazz hands, but facts. I clearly will not be having children, so wonder if the hysterectomy may be the solution? Am I cutting off my nose to spite my face? The thought depresses me deeply. In short and if I am completely honest, I am terrified and unhappy. I cannot afford private doctors to get a second opinion. Or do you think I am being foolishly and blindly stubborn to the detriment of my health? My symptoms are plentiful urination and a dull ache and pressure in my abdomen, but no real pain. Just backache. Please help.

Sadly, we realise that for many ladies, the fibroids dont always shrink after the menopause so that's not the answer. I do agree that your wish not to have a hysterectomy should be given consideration unless there are quite strong reasons why other options may be unsuitable - which should be explained to you. UAE, though a good procedure isn't suitable for everyone - the fibroids may grow back after some time, it may not be so easy to reach all the fibroids or other issues. Clearly, you are symptomatic and need something definite, but it's good to be aware of the pros and cons in both cases. Whether someone is younger or in her 40s, in my opinion the best thing for removal of fibroids is the less invasive methods. As someone who is in my forties but has a body that is functioning much younger than my chronological age, I dare a doctor to tell me that 40+ years old is too old to have children so I should destroy my womb. Blood test can tell a person how well they are medically to carry a baby in their 40s, so it’s presumptuous of doctors to tell women that once you reached age 40 you aren’t worthy of having children. I find it disrespectful…especially because humans aren’t Gods who know everything.

Also, suffered as a child, By 15 my periods(very heavy) lasted 1 1/2 weeks. Sometimes missed school because of it. Anemia since than as well. Hi, we wouldn't recommend trying to remove it while you are pregnant, and your Dr will be in the best position to advise how to look after it during your pregnancy. Once you and your baby have settled into a routine, you can re-evaluate the fibroid and work out what to do. Don't forget many women live with small fibroids without any issues.

Well, this is frustrating. I've been grinding my own wheat for 20 years, drink a small pot of green tea after every meal, and up until the past four years worked out every day. I don't eat processed food, and I now have 5 fibroids--one the size of a grapefruit! My doctor doesn't want to do a hysterectomy since my uterus is too big at the moment. I have a fibroid 8cm/size of an orange...have had fertility issues, going towards menopause...based on options given by Dr due to heavy bleeding but not wanting to remove uterus I decided upon the depo injection to shrink the fibroid ... hemoglobin was 6.5 due to heavy periods, had to get blood transfusion...fibroid shrunk 2 cm after 1st injection however the injection kicks your body into menopause with no periods for months at a time... injection is expensive & some insurances don't cover it....

I've had irregular periods. Heavy periods on my second day with little cramps. Never been on birth control pills. Made it to see my gyn at age 56. Been having off and on spotting that last 2.5 weeks. Sadly, there's no proof that natural options like diet can cure this condition. In fact, our concern is the condition getting worse while actual treatments are delayed. Please continue to be there for her while reminding her that those diet therapies are extremely misleading.

Hi. I just stumble on your program here. I had a myomectomy in 2019, where a huge fibroid was removed. I got married in 2020, and have been trying to conceive, but have not yet. I've had scan done, & about 3 fibroids at diff positions, but 2cm, 3cm in sizes, non is up to 4cm. Will be 47yrs by Dec this year.
