I think a big reason for the death of creepypasta not covered here is the rise of creepypasta mockery videos surfacing after 2014. Since many creepypastas were written by children, and even those written by adults weren't always great, they made easy targets to take pot shots at in that classic 2010s style of media reviewing. At least in my case, that quickly made creepypasta something bad and cringe and that only somebody with bad and cringe taste would enjoy. I didn't want to be that, so I flipped to that side as well, and I wouldn't be surprised if many others did too since it seems common to shamefully disavow the things one used to like.

VibingLeaf and his retakes managed to revive creepypastas back to its routes and share it to the modern age of the Internet like taking an old recipe of a pasta and recreate the dish with a new twist.

@@Ayahuasca98 I know that most of the creepypasta re-takes aren't perfect, but some of the old creepypastas are just a mixed bag, especially how bad the writing is (I'm looking at you Jeff the Killer and Sonic exe).

I spent lots of time trolling sonic.exe fans when I was a kid in 2013 xD But I just think some of vibingleaf’s stuff just isn’t too good when trying to remake old pasta. It feels smarmy and postmodern. I can’t describe it though. It’d be like trying to make a modern trailer for star wars 1977 It just wouldn’t work with all our modern conventions.

@@Ayahuasca98 Or maybe because it doesn't really fit your taste, so I understood where you come from. Still, I'm fine with the VibingLeaf's re-takes and other horror content. At least his content is more experimental and doesn't try hard to be edgy for the sake of it. Some of the ones like _The Grieving_ or _Kung Fu Panda's Greatest Villain_ did at least make it lore accurate to the story.

Fire series. I miss and constantly think about creepypastas as they are what really got me into horror. Never been scared of gaming creepypastas except for those creepy pictures and art that people would pair them with on those creepypasta reading videos

i really like your explanation for creepypastas death. i always thought it was silly to blame the end of such a huge phenomenon on a single incident, although i do think it really caused people to stop and reflect on these stories and the impact they had. even now with creepypastas resurgence it still feels very divided into the different categories you mentioned. pastober was super fun but sadly now its pastover :(

In my opinion the reason why creepypasta really fell off because multiple factors like people making mockery video a forms but also competition has time goes on beside mascot horror games and lost media genre there where also other online horror genre like scp trevor Henderson and the backrooms anolog horror which had there own lore characters monster and fanbase also other thing most of the popular creepypasta where ether to similar to others or didn't get the same amount of popularity and iconic as something like slenderman or jeff the killer when it comes to iconic creepypasta

Honestly I would say it was the lazy ass lack of effort and lazy ass tropes of giving any recognizable character bloody eyes and edgy for the sake of edgy, that’s what killed creepypasta in my eyes. It’s why I love creepy pastas that actually try and don’t rely on that like Ted the caver.

and in the time prior to the introduction of mediums that better filled audience's niches, it also became a matter of oversaturation in the community as tons of people were caught up in making the next biggest thing to spook audiences solid. peak memories of sifting through Jeff the Killer clones and gratuitous attempts at writing the most graphic stories with zero atmosphere. just a chapter or three of insane levels of poorly articulated grimdark schlock.

nothing really 'killed' creepy pasta, it peaked as such a thing does when the internet realizes tehy can do stuff like that, and once everyone got the initial "oh Cool!" phase out you can see that it just decreases back to what it was for the fans usually as people come nad go and come back again in cycles as very few truly love horror so much that they stick to it all the time. Most people need a break from it, consume it in cycles. Plus yes a lot of the stronger aspects move to new terms.
