In Europe there's even the edc with cup chassis option...but the trophy is more interesting

CUP + EDC wasn't available in 2018. It is since 2019.

sport for daily use. trophy for track. cup just in the middle. and GT is for entry level sport tuning. it's the best choice for everyday commuting

Super Rare Car Though :) like Type R. You won't see many on the road. I saw one last week & Wow It's so Beautiful & Cool at the same time :D Crazy to think Renault made the best looking hatch :)

We're aware -- www.caradvice.com.au/278721/transmissions-explained-manual-v-automatic-v-dual-clutch-v-cvt-v-others/ -- but we feel there's little harm in calling them autos. To the layperson, the difference is irrelevant, and to the enthusiast, they already know which is which. Cheers - Mike Stevens

I think you two just completely miss the point of RS or Cup! Are you seriously complaining about the ride comfort on purpose built vehicles for handling? I’m sure Renault has other trims and models you can pick for a more comfortable ride, aka anything non performance. These cars are for niche market and it won’t be for people who worry if the ride will give their kid scoliosis while dropping them off to school nor complains about stop start traffic. The Answer is in the name already, it’s RS and CUP? Look it up the name bares history!

I dont actually agree with that. I have had many performance cars, i currently drive a Subaru WRX STI (2017). This is my second last gen WRX. It is known worldwide for having pin-sharp handling and turning and very limited body flex but the ride can be very jarring. I am an enthusiast and I was well aware of how hard the ride would be (this is my second one) and although I usually prefer driving dynamics to ride comfort, there are times where I wish it was more supple. I would trade some sharpness for ride comfort. I often have to apologise to passangers getting in for how stiff and bumpy the ride can be. Don't get me wrong, I love my car, but I am not putting gloves on and taking it to the track everyday. I'm usually with the wife/kids and going to the supermarket. So I can see why Renault would give that option.

Absolutly right. Have the 280 Cup, stop start is always off...Period! The ride is exactly what a focused hot hatch should be without being to harsh and the fun on a track day and around sweeping country roads is immense. Have a family car for the wife and kids though my kids just want to be with me in the 280 Cup! Just love this car and RS's in general as I also had the previous RS 250 model. Will not give mine up!

Renault caught firmly in the noughties. Civic Type R, Golf GTi, Leon Cupra, upcoming Focus ST, i30N etc... all allow Limited Slip Differential and adjustable suspension options without making the customer choose one suspension setup at purchase time and then being stuck with it. Wakey wakey Renault. Firmer or more compliant ride should be available at the touch of a button, and wanting an LSD shouldn't mean you are stuck with stiffer suspension 100% of the time. Old hat nonsense from Renault, caught in the past

mad4tar77 not at all, it’s just a different approach and sometimes MORE effective; an RS sport both handles AND rides more adroitly than a Golf R with its “fancy” adaptive dampers, thanks to its very not-out of date mechanical dampers with a secondary level of damping built in. Electrically-actuated dampers are also much more expensive to replace and tend to fail sooner than mechanical ones, for what that’s worth. LSD wasn’t engineered initially to work with the EDC, it now is, though non LSD RSs use an electronic diff lock, as does much of the VW group of front drive performance cars, switching to a mechanical LSD only in the higher end ones. All the manufacturers you list make great performance C-segment cars, each with their pro and contra, but to suggest Renault are somehow “asleep” doesn’t seem fair; I mean, they again hold the record for fastest front drive production car at the Ring, which doesn’t seem too soporific to me...

@@sjb2471 fanboy stuff there. No, Renault uses torque vectoring, applying brakes, instead of a mechanical differential in the Sport chassis car. A 280hp fwd car needs a mechanical diff, an more importantly the customer should be able to add it as an option at the very least. So the customer decides they want a compliant ride, Renault decides that customer can't then have a limited slip differential. Firmly caught in the past, choosing one of the two suspension setups from an order book and then for some unknown reason only allowing a limited slip differential with one of the suspension setups. As for unreliable electronically controlled dampers, i ran an S60R up to 200k km on original dampers... worn out at that point yes, unreliable, no.

@@sjb2471 Stop the BS, the guy is right. Why am I stuck having to chose between red callipers, LSD and confortable ride, but no LSD or red callipers. I mean why? I am the perfect example when saying Renault's decisions are shit: I want the appearance and LSD of the cup, but the comfort of the sport, because I won't track this car. And yes, you can feel the difference between LSD and open diff even on public roads. So why do I have to choose, and be unsatisfied either way? At least give me the option to spec it how i want! There's no discussion in it, bad decision coming from Renault. Bad, bad.

@@sjb2471 Oh and one more thing. No, electronically controlled dampers don't tend to fail sooner. I would actually go as far as to say they are even more reliable than traditional ones. For instance, I have a VW cc, 19" rims with 160k km, they weren't replaced yet, and they're still in good shape. Also have a Renault Megane 2 with traditional shocks, needed replacement before 120k km. So, expensive to replace? Yes. Tend to fail more often? No. Also, judging by Renault's parts prices, I wouldn't go yelling "cheap" everywhere. Renault parts are expensive, I wouldn't be surprised if these "traditional" dampers are actually just as/more expensive then the GTI's adaptive ones. And no, I'm not a fan boy of anything. I love Renault Sport, but I'm also trying to give an unbiased opinion. You should steer away from the fanboy-ism cause it's not doing anyone any favor.

Paul Michael Australia, like most of the rest of the world currently, uses the metric system, which is consistent and where everything is based in the same divisible units. You know, just like the UK uses metric now too with degrees Celsius and centimetres and millilitres and miles and feet and pounds and, oh wait.... 🤪😂. I suppose in that context comparing the output of steam engines with the power of draft horses makes perfect sense to use when describing the power of a modern engine. Just wait until electric cars become the norm, then kilowatts will REALLY confuse you.
