So...I am a Musicology Professor and I teach a class called Black Divas. I'll just say, it isn't just being a famous woman who sings that makes a person a Diva. You can have a big cultural impact and not be a Diva. What makes a Diva is tricky. Some of it has to do with genre, some of it has to do with narrative, and quite a lot of it has to do with the relationship between the singer and the performer. Diva comes from opera...and not all big opera singers were divas...you have to be Divine to be a Diva. Anyhow, this is a huge conversation that I can't get into with all the nuance it needs in the comments section. But it is an exciting and rich topic!

However, when i was coming up, Madonna really had a big impact on me during the late 80s/90s because she made LGBT people feel seen, accepted and empowered. I would like to add some opinion on the diva stuff. Here in Brazil, Megan and SZA are known in different and specific groups of people and they're not that impactful actually. We're very hyped about Anitta, one of the first brazilian singers to ever accomplish some great stuff like the grammys and international performances, and Pabllo Vittar, our greatest talented drag singer and performer. I do think that the metrics for a diva may be their power to break barriers such as languages, ages and genders like Bob said. And also, switching in between TV, music, cinema and other show business areas with such greatness is what makes a diva. Love you both xoxo

The reason the Kpop artists aren't as popular on Spotify or Apple Music is because they have their own Korean streaming platforms which are the only streams that count to the points systems in their weekly shows and things like that.
