While Alejandro is frequently silent in the movie, he initially had more lines. "In the original script, the character explained his background several times to Kate," Benicio del Toro said. "And that gave me information about who this guy was, but it felt a little stiff to have someone you just met fifteen minutes ago suddenly telling you what happened to him and who he is." Working with Denis Villeneuve, Del Toro began cutting some of his dialogue to preserve the mystery of who his character is; Villeneuve estimated they cut 90% of what Del Toro was originally intended to say by screenwriter Taylor Sheridan. Like Del Toro, Villeneuve saw power in stripping the character down to a brooding silence, stating that dialogue belongs to plays and "movies are about movement, character, and presence, and Benicio had all that."

So rare for an actor to argue in favour of LESS lines but it made the lines he had so impactful.

The attention to detail about foreign and domestic legal parameters is what stands out to me…. The CIA needed the fbi in order to operate in the states, they needed Texas marshals to actually handle the extradition, and used the Delta Force (the military arm of the CIA) to handle the fighting. And then on top of all that, they used an unofficial non citizen,Alejandro, to do the “illegal” stuff. That way they can throw him under the bus if they needed to. “We didn’t break the law, this disgruntled Colombian lawyer did”
@Drewe2238 ай бұрын
Delta isn’t the e military arm of the CIA. CIA has their own ground combat teams. Delta just works with the CIA when it needs to.
@808INFantry11X6 ай бұрын
Mostly right DELTA however isn't directly the affiliated with the CIA. The CUA Has their own it used to be called SAD or special activities division however its called ground branch now. DELTA however bring support being military that the CIA wouldn't have direct access to such as use of bases and Airforce drones for example.

There was a slightly different ending in the original version of the screenplay, with Alejandro choosing to spare Fausto's family and physically humiliate Kate in the ending scene by lifting up her shirt and pointing out all of the bruises he gave her in their earlier confrontation. Denis Villeneuve, Emily Blunt, and Benicio del Toro were all dissatisfied with how this played out, so they changed it to better fit how they felt the characters would act in the situations.

42:03 My buddy woke up one night with a bug crawling around inside his ear last summer. He was able to kill it with some oil and thought he got everything out. Well, several weeks ago he's sitting at his desk at work and half of an earwax encapsulated moth carcass fell out of his ear onto his desk. The ironic thing is that one of his nicknames has been Mothman for years prior as moths seem to gravitate towards him. This is one of my favorite films, it's basically a masterpiece if you ask me. The second Sicario film is also excellent, but I don't think it is quite as strong as this one is. Villeneuve is one of the best in the industry at the moment, change my mind.

Since y'all were talking about the cash transactions I'll just mention that I'm lucky enough to know that the limit for the bank to file a CTR is actually >10K, ie 10,000.01. I deposited 10K once after an extremely lucky Vegas trip and showed the tellers my W2G and pictures of my jackpot to ensure they didn't have to do the SAR paperwork. You can technically file a SAR with any amount of deposits if you notice strange behavior, but most banks or other money services don't bother. I told my manager about some guy buying 1900 dollars in money orders every single day and that should be grounds for a SAR and he shrugged it off.
@progrocker211218 күн бұрын
Well shit that has me thinking about another detail. The bank in question had to be in with the cartel as well. Normally you wouldn't want to keep a negative loan balance on file. A loan is an asset, a negative loan is a liability. Once a loan reaches zero it should be closed immediately rather than allowing it to keep taking payments. I bet all of those 9K banded rolls all ended up at either different branches of the same bank or to multiple banks on the take. Explains how security footage found Kate so quickly. Side note: It's ironic that the Patriot Act requires financial services employees to learn AML (Anti money laundering) procedures in annual trainings and now I know exactly how to launder money (I haven't by the way).

I "like" this movie a lot because the director did it so right he make it feel so authentic the feels from reality it is "scary" that feeling that you might die in any moment and terror from the cartels and such, I live in Mexico but from where I am it was from 2009-2014 I felt that fear from guns and a lot of deaths and specially because I was a kid living alone every night with fear so the feels from this film were so accurate
