I think the reason everyone hypes the Fade to Black solo isnt actually cause of the solo itself but cause the awesome rhythm the solo is playing to. It's got the great melody and feels going on
@defaultdan79239 ай бұрын
this 100%. many solos are good on their own, but in the context of a song, an amazing solo imo is one that takes the rhythm and enhances/builds on to it. in that aspect, the FtB solo succeeds incredibly well. it’s not the flashiest or most insane solo, but it’s melancholy and solemn, fitting the mood perfectly.

Man, the only thing I disagree on is Highway Star. That was one of the first hard rock guitar solos ever made (1972), and one of the first that I can recall to use harmonies as well, two years before Queen 1 came out. It was a total pioneer of epic proportions to what was about to come in the next 50+ years. Also the dueling solos with Jon Lord on a distorted hammond. Like I said, pioneering and a completely underrated album (Machine Head) in my opinion. Other way, rock on brother and thanks for the entertainment! \m/

I have to disagree with you on purple rain. I might be simplistic. But it's still an emotional and touchy solo. To me, it deserves to be on the "still great but mid compared to the rest" tier. I do agree with you on smells like teen spirit though.

I don’t think brad gets emotions from guitar playing from his overrated placement tier tbh, not suppose to a jab to him but those solos would all go without a doubt into perfect for me

Glad to see you showing Felder and Walsh love by having Hotel California so high on the list. It's crazy how each guy has his own solo, but it fits together so well. I saw the Eagles in 2018 (sans Felder obviously), and Steuart Smith and Joe Walsh absolutely killed that solo. I've seen Walsh play it tons of times live, and he throws some extra stuff in that sounds even better than the record. And BTW, you're thinking of the miserly Don Henley of the Eagles, who brags about paying a team of people to flag copyrighted Eagles material on the internet. Sultans of Swing is another killer solo.

Good list…For Pantera I think the solo from The Sleep is super underrated and Cemetery Gates has a better solo than Floods. If you’ve got the non metal guys, you gotta have the Cliffs of Dover and something by SRV. Also, Jason Becker could fill the entire Perfect section.

I love how Tornado of Souls is indisputably perfect for you without thinking twice. Still blows my mind every time I listen to it! Separately, I couldn’t help but notice Maiden is not included (even with their poster being on your wall next to Rust in Peace). If there was a Maiden solo, which would it be?

As much of a Guns N Roses fan that I am, I know Slash is capable of doing outstanding solos. That being said, the Sweet Child O Mine solo; while the song is one of my favorites of GNR, I agree with your opinion on it. If I were to compare it with November Rain, there's no competition. I also like the solo he did for Give It To Me by Michael Jackson. Great list! I think you rated them fairly.

I think exactly the opposite. While not being a song that I love, the solo is one of my favourites from the band

Crazytrain is one I always enjoyed playing. I feel kind of addicted to tapping, like the one time I performed in front of an audience at a house party I only played one improved song because I felt like only tapping would get old pretty quick but its all I feel confident enough to do in front of others. I want to learn to sweep better but I've always struggled with it. Any suggestions on for drills?

I couldn't agree more about so many of your points. Especially effing Don Henley. "It pains me to say this but Hotel California..." Joe Walsh is a great guitar player. That's what it is. I've learned a third of these. I'm doing Tornado of Souls rn. I'm about to start the 'falling down the stairs' bit at the end of the solo. Effing amazing
@cdprince7689 ай бұрын
While the recording features the guitar work of Joe Walsh and Don Felder, the primary guitar heard throughout the solo belongs to Felder, who also wrote the music for the track.

@@nathanv.4397 Yeah, Felder is a great guitarist and actually preceded Walsh in The Eagles. He was never treated very well and left the band a couple of times. I've always liked his track "Heavy Metal" which he recorded as a solo act after he left the Eagles.

If y'all want to listen to a really really great solo, then listen to Misericorde part II - Anatomy of quiescence by Ne Obliviscaris. This was very entertaining to watch, Brad. Thanks a lot for making this video. Somebody had to bravely come up and say how the solo in Purple Rain is so dragging and the one in Comfortably Numb is just meh. Also happy to hear you ranked Tornado of Souls at the top. Nothing comes close to this solo in terms of phrasing, execution and originality.
