When punk rock was still punk!
@devilsoffspring55194 жыл бұрын
Actually, many consider this to be the "beginning of the end" of old-school punk because this is when the really melodic stuff was becoming widely known and very popular (early 2000s.) It started happening in the '90s and by the time this was released it was in full swing. If you ask me though, THIS is the good shit. I always preferred the more melodic style of stuff, even if it's "pop". So, in my own opinion it took quite a while for punk rock to become really good music.
@dgates61654 жыл бұрын
@@devilsoffspring5519 That is a very interesting observation. I agree with you assessment of THIS being the good shit. Some pop punk is too much pop for me, but it's still a more enjoyable listening experience than something like Sex Pistols lol.
@devilsoffspring55194 жыл бұрын
@@dgates6165 I'll give the Pistols, the Clash, Black Flag, Kennedys etc. the credit they're due. They're the originals, they made people aware that punk was something people do. It's just that I like *music*, and this shit's leaps and bounds ahead of the intensely angry and "authentic" old-school punk because it's much better developed musically/melodically. I guess it doesn't matter, I just prefer it. :)
@dgates61654 жыл бұрын
@@devilsoffspring5519 no, I agree with that as well. I still love the old school punk bands!
@devilsoffspring55194 жыл бұрын
@@dgates6165 No doubt, they're the ones that got the ball rolling. I'll admit to a fondness for some of the really poppy stuff, although I'm getting far too old for most of that shit. I don't listen the the really early Green Day anymore, for example. I just think their newer stuff is much better. On the other hand I still really dig I'd Do Anything from Simple Plan for some reason, and that stuff's as poppy as it gets. I don't listen to most of the rest of that album though.

@@nicholasemerson9852 So, they'd be better off not playing at all just to win punk points? C'mon, get real, this is a great performance that nobody would have seen otherwise. The swear words in Red Hot Moon are a part of the original lyric, but they are not fundamental to the song, and if need be, they can be glossed over for a TV performance without ruining the whole song. A song like Bad Habit, from the Offspring, cannot be played without the swearing because it's fundamental to the song, and taking it out would ruin the song. Bad Habit is a song about road rage, so taking out the swearing would obliterate the point of the song--but, that simply isn't the case with Red Hot Moon. See what I mean?
