"need to only be around safe people" -- you have been conditioned (inappropriately) by certain people and narrative-pushers around you. I also used to think like that. I didn't have my first real hetero-friend until I was 25 y/o. But once I did, I realized what kind of 'bro' bond I had been missing out on. And as time progressed, and I left my self-confines of 'fear' of "unsafe" people (hetero men), I realized that hetero men were FAR less 'dangerous' or 'aggressive' or 'mean' or 'discriminatory' (or whatever other word I had used to paint them all 'unsafe') than I had been groomed to think they were. The people who control society are working very hard to push these divisionary thoughts upon you. Because this is how they get 'votes' (or clout or influence or monetary control) - votes based upon your fears of 'the other', rather than based on what that person can do to better society as a whole.

I think what leads people to have "gay features" is less on their biology and more on how they want to present themselves in the environment in which they live in. In a hostile environment, say Uganda for example, you would probably have a harder time identifying queer people as well as having a large portion of the population not realizing their queer self. Society has the biggest influence on the way a queer person would alter their behaviour and appearance.
@CharGC1235 ай бұрын
I agree, I think grooming, expression, and affect play a far bigger role than actual features. If I saw a head shot of Jonathan VanNess, for example, looking serious, I wouldn't guess he was gay. But when he cocks his head and does that cheesy grin, brings his hands into the frame, or pans out, it's pretty obvious. When he speaks it's even more apparent, but even so... I used to have this huge crush on a really cute guy in HS, and pretty much shadowed him... until I heard him speak. He had very "gay sounding" effeminate speech, so my high hopes were dashed. Years later I ran into him at a class reunion... with his gorgeous wife of 25 years. Ya just never know.
@childfreesingleandatheist88995 ай бұрын
@Ratigan2: Or it could be that gay people in Uganda don't want their biological "gay features" to be displayed in a hostile environment. My gaydar is reasonably accurate, but all these guys were "stealth gay". But today, there's another ingredient in the mix. I've noticed that men in general seem to have softer voices in generally higher pitches than they did decades ago, and their mannerisms have become more feminized, and I wonder "wtf?". A very long time ago, someone told me that gay men have "twinkly eyes." I wondered for years what that meant, even though at times I believed I could see it in some gay people. So I don't recall the study or where I heard it, but there was a study on Couples who tend to have similar looking faces, and the study concluded the longer they had been together, the more similar they looked to each other, and the reasoning is because they spend a lot of time together, and thus their experiences and environment were similar, so those things were having effects on their appearance. I wonder if that has anything to do with gay/straight/political face. Could they be having these similar facial appearances, not strictly because of biology, but environment and experiences?
@PowerRedBullTypology5 ай бұрын
I think a more logical conclusion would be that indeed people feel attracted to similar looking faces. However, since when they age they also develop the same type of wrinkles because hte face structure looks alike, there are just more (in quantity) traits availiable in the face to look alike. Also, in my own observation when age I find their feaces become more and mroe stereotypes. So a girl with a pointy chin when she's 12 will likely have a super pointy twin when she's 35. It seems each stage of growth deforms us more and deviates us further from the balanced middleground. However, all just reasoning and basically guessing here

I know nothing about this topic, so forgive me if I'm way off, but... I think part of the point is that you cannot be 'groomed' into being gay - you just are or are not. I hear a lot of conservatives expressing fear that 'groomers' will be allowed to 'turn' their kids gay. An example is conservatives get so upset about drag queens reading books to kids at school or libraries which is, apparently, a 'thing'. They seem to be making three false assumptions: that all drag queens are gay, that gay people want to 'convert' kids to being gay, and that gay people and/or drag queens are pedophiles, which I know is not the case. So, it's important to make people aware that the supposed 'grooming' is not taking place, and that it wouldn't work anyway. Plus, this knowledge would let parents/teachers/etc relax a bit, and just let kids grow up to be who they are meant to be.

To be fair on the AI, if they were to include black faces they would have to have separate studies due to POV's having different face shapes in general and depending on where the test was taken, the majority of the people could have been white. The same reason for why the AI couldn't produce a black doctor because it's data was either very limited or none at all which is reflective of real life, not a lot of doctors are black and for them to be included in the AI, their has to be photos of them, which since their are more white doctors their are going be hundreds of thousands of more pictures of white doctors. Another thing to understand is that the AI doesn't understand language like us, it's making an educated guess. When you write 'black' doctor, the AI may interrupt that as a doctor in a black suit and if the data pool on actual black doctors is low, it'll draw that meaning from elsewhere or straight up ignore it because it doesn't understand.

Most of the time I can see someone is gay from their face, postures, voice, even if they are very masculine jock guy. Sometimes it’s just the twinkle in the eyes or how they gaze. And I’m gay btw😂

As a teenager, before I gained weight and stuff, people often commented on my big forehead and nose. I've also always had a number of personality traits that made people think I was gay, but I'm actually 1000% only attracted to women. To make things even more complicated I've always kinda wanted to be a girl, but don't think I'm trans, and have consistently been into bi women without knowing they were bi.. Someone please study me, I want a brain scan lol

I am a 71-year-old white male. Would your research about Gay Face be checked on older people? As a straight man I can remember men I have met in the past that I would perceive to be gay. they were all younger men. I can't think I ever saw an older man that made me think he would be gay. Cheers
@mistressofstones4 ай бұрын
Sadly there are probably less gay men in your age range. Being a young gay man in the 60s and 70s wasn't fun. Depending upon where you lived it was illegal and anti gay propaganda was being made. Many people ended their own lives or others did for them (I can't say proper words or youtube will delete my comment), and in the 1980s and 90s many men passed away of AIDS while they were blamed for it. If you meet an open gay men in your age range be very kind to him and look out for him xxx

I had a colleague who was gay. I didn't know he was gay for many years, it was really surprising to me because he didn't seem gay at all. But after I discovered he was gay, he started to look and sound gay to me. I'm pretty sure lot of it is how your brain process things. Usually though, gay men are easy to spot, latest when you talk to them.

I think you're assuming that science is racist. But the politics around race is so convoluted at this point that you could be considered racist for doing a study that might implicate protected class people or minorities it's a liability and that's probably why they aren't included in the study. Including them could be racist but excluding them could also be racist.

I learned long ago how a spike of estrogen inutero can give the "male breasts" effect. Just by a spike of estrogen! Its fascinating and a bit scary what our bodies are capable of. Great point on the pros and cons of such studies in the right hands! New sub! Love from Edinburgh Scotland. xx

I can't tell by their face as easily as I can tell by their walk. I talked to a carpet salesman fresh off the boat from Egypt the other day and though he had a strong Arabic accent his speech mannerisms were distinctly gay, which is interesting. Most American gays will suppress their gay speech patterns when talking to a straight guy, but either he hadn't yet learned to do that or he mistook me for gay as I am a fit and trim, well-groomed, well dressed and well spoken middle-aged guy, but straight.

So are you two Partners, or just friends, I'm A Straight Guy with friends that are gay. Last night I had the most wonderful Dream, A Ginger Woman with green eyes, but then I woke up and she didn't follow. It's odd to assume these differences in facial features are different for other races. Its problably just the same pattern repeating itself because hormones influence the face. The more you imply ther must be a difference, the more you imply there is actual a significant different between ethnical groups.

The forehead bit sent me into doing too much frontal cortex research which none of was conclusive into why the forehead's shape/size might have anything to with being gay. Our frontal cortex serves a whole lot of functions and nothing typical associated with whatever the hell people think gay people are associated with.... other than more facial movements, more complex hand movements, and MAYBE spatial awareness... maybe :P

Hey, Greg, from another Greg (my given first name). I have known two gay guys who looked JUST like you. Both were actually true blondes. One was about 6'2", very Nordic looking (his last name was Nielsen so...), while the other was about 5'5", and I think he was a blend of Irish and German. Anyway, same eyes, same general facial proportions, even similar facial expressions to yours, similar down to choosing the round-lensed glasses! One got me into being vegetarian, the other I got with just once (not complaining, but I am not into Vienna sausages). While I am happily married, I do have a touch of husband envy of your husband for having you to look at. I wish you both well! Oh, btw, I had both Human Osteology and Intro to Forensic Anth under the 2nd Professor under Dr. Bass, of the Bass Collection at UT Knoxville. You may have heard of "The Body Farm." They don't call it that. Anyway, from my lessons, we learned how to distinguish basics of age, sex, and major racial component. Overlap complicates that, of course. Point being: females tend to have larger brows, because their frontal bones keep growing longer than men, while males tend to have larger jaws for the same reason. Thus, if these facts about gay folks bear out, it truly shows that we do have some cross-sexed characteristics that help explain who and why we exist. Natural Selection is always on, fellas. We persist, because we matter. #HappyPride

Oh, btw, talking of that later boys in the sibship thing my late husband, from a sibship of 9, was the 5th boy. He was technically bi, I suppose. He doted on his mom, and his family. We showed up for every kids' birthday party, all the holidays, we took the kids everywhere, and he made sure they had a car upon h.s. graduation. His family didn't give a penny toward his services. He is in a bag, in a box, on an unused, pre-digital t.v., in our now unused living room. There is essentially a shrine, with the things of his, and ours, including our wedding album, filled to the back page with every movie ticket and county fair ticket we ever attended. Tell each other often of your love, and touch each other tenderly. You never know when it will come to an end. May you both live long, and die together, of ancient old age, in bed, asleep and never know the pain of that loss.

I think they are onto something with clocking to an extent where people are from! I am American now living in Scotland. I live in an extremely trafficked destination city in Europe ( Edinburgh Scotland). I now can clock an American from a mile away! Just nuances and how they present! Its wild. I never thought living most of my life in America I would be clocking Americans! Also people from the city vs outskirts can be tough but sometimes very easy!
@johncoleman52314 ай бұрын
My thoughts about AI predicting your politics Im am thinking is more racial and gender profiling along with micro genetics based on where you are from in your state. Like y’all said you can tell a New Yorker, I can often tell if someone was born and raised in certain areas of Texas based on their facial features. My opinion is this will go the way of Phrenology - the popular Victorian era pseudo-science where scientists studied the bumps on your head to determine character traits. This is also interesting, having formerly owned a medical spa. I feel my husband was a genius with working with gay men and transitioning male to female. He was just naturally good at giving them the look they wanted. But not all injectors are naturals and need to know where to start. I think this information is important to help medical spa physicians and injectors better perfect their art in helping their patient achieve the look they are wanting. Like you said, there are gay males who just don’t look gay but want to look more like who they feel they are. My husband knew to bring their cheek pads forward, to thin 😂out the jaw line and fill out the forehead. But it’s nice to know this validates what he was doing.

EYES!! My gaydar works best when looking at a still shot of someone's face straight on. It has to do with a lack of symmetry in the eyes. In gay men, one eye will appear larger/brighter and more directly focused/fixated. The other will appear less intense - more relaxed. Not that ALL gay men have this feature, but whenever I have seen it, I eventually learn that the person is gay. And those who do have it, have it in varying degree. That is - with some, this trait just jumps out at you all the time, with others it appears in some photos, but not others.

Gay for 47 years here (only “aware” at age 19)… You, Sir, absolutely have a gay face. A crew neck green t shirt is not the reason I can tell. In part, it also has a lot to do with the way they your lips curl either when talking or even just resting. I suppose your cheaks being convex has something to do with it too (though surely straight men have cheekbones too). Maybe it has something to do with more linear curvature through the face. And you, Sir, have frosted tips after the year 2007, so there are more externalities that betray your gayness. (Snark here is not a dig on gay people, it’s just part of the culture.)
