The best electric skillet I can find burns in a circle while leaving the edges and the center raw and cold.

My home is almost 35 years old. Last year I removed all of the wood trim around the downstairs windows and sliding door, found the was just a little bit of spray foam for insulation around the windows and door. Bought some spray foam for windows and sprayed it, the a couple days later cleaned up the overspray and the installed new wood trim. Amazed how much less cold air comes through. I live 20 miles east of Seattle, so we do get a lot of cool, chilly days.

Ha !! .. Gotta love it . Most crapenters are Blow and Go . The siding going first might have been " Well the windows are on order and we need to get a bank draw . So go ahead and install the siding " . Nightmare .. But for some it's just they way it is . I don't like building out of sequence . Yep . The only way to properly set those windows is tear off the siding , It's almost impossible to get the head flashing in with a 1/4 " gap from flashing to siding and taped correctly . The sill flashing is another nightmare . .. I like to slightly tilt the sills and flash . Even run an apron under the sill flashing long enough to act like intermediate joint flashing . The Drainage Plane . No caulk on the the 3 sides Ha! You can do skip caulking and nailing on the sill . But determnined by the span of the window . I prefer step flashing on sidewalls and an obvious kick out flashing at it's terminus I like my housewrap not to be nailed so the roofer can tuck up under a little bit . In some instances this can't be done , Leave it flopping and let the roofers step flash then tidy it up . Many roofers go on automatic underdrive . And don't run the flashiing high enough . So when siding time comes . With some Hardi-Zones requiring a 1'" clearance between roofing and siding . I think up up further north a 2" gap for wind driven snow that melts .. Hardi will " Rot " and crumble . I always treat all cuts Get into standing seam , shake or slate and the roofers almost always fail me . . The floor sheathing looks like it was exposed for awhile . Looks like a cheaper brand as well and possibly swelled up . I like to double glue my butt joints . Guy drops the sheathing and scrapes off the side coming up and yes .Eyeball and 1/8 gap . Nail after glue within 15 minutes at most and make sure it's bedded befoe you oull the trigger . Nailing at brutal angles on glued and not bedded sheathing is a potential squeak . I pride myself on no squeaks and had my first a few years ago .. After telling happy gun runner 50 times how to nail floor sheathing . He got fired after all my hair fell out . Figured if I can't get him to nail a floor off after 10 hours of examples , pleading and sending a Teleflora bouquet .. Then there was no way I could teach him how to cut a 30.32 degree angle on 4" staggered Hardi-Shake panels and following a rainslot pattern while I am frying on the side of a dormer . Using hand signals , Braille , and a Speak-N-Spell .. 43 years as a carpenter and even in my later years considered becoming a County Inspector .. But I'd get fired !! . I'd close down the entire county with what I know and have seen . County needs houses , County needs those property taxes . I would be the type that shakes the baby and glad hands the most popular builder and drive up and just sign the permit box and get invited to lunch . Ha! . I always overbuilt to the point of anal retentive . I would analyze the shank of a nail , it's directional axis , it's molecular structure , Why a head of a nail is shaped like it is . And then go so far as A Rosetta Stone on how to go the elusive 13.71 " OC. Common Length Difference of a hip jack rafter at a 5.56/12 roof and be within aircraft tolerances . Ha! . Never had a spec home ever sit . Always sold before the drywall went up and many homeowners said they bought the houses I built , Because they looked like art even in the frame . Woven and stitched together like Angels on the looms of wood . Worked for the nations #1 architectural firm as a test pilot carpenter in The 90's . Details that are now on every plan they sell .. Toot my little horn . But when you get high end builders wanting only you to build their own personal homes . They know I never cut corners and exceeded every expectation . Still learning I admit .

The siding before the windows in all fairness I've seen before in the past from the wrong windows coming, vandalism, pushed back production. Depending on the siding type and window combination it doesn't necessarily matter too much. Get majority of the house done including siding so you can actually work on the interior. Casement + fiber/wood siding allows to over side and cut back when it's ready for install.. just cover the window openings with heavy poly and tape. I had two houses I had to do like that in 2007

1:55 yes you should put silicone or the equivalent on the windows, but I do not recommend it for the bottom. If you caulk the bottom nail flange and water where to get behind the window, it has no way to escape. That’s another reason why it is best to put your bottom flashing tape on first, then install the windows. After that, put your flashing on your two sides and for your head lap that flashing should go directly onto the structure and not on top of your house wrap. That way if water were to get behind the house wrap, the head flashing can pull it back outand not go behind the window. 2:59 how does he expect to install the windows correctly with the siding already on it. There’s no way to install the windows and have the siding but up to the window. Not to mention most new construction windows have a gap where the siding goes into it. As a contractor you want to have top quality subs doing your work. And I have had very good subs that I could trust in and I pay them extra because of the quality of work that they do plus if I need them. They will pull off other jobs to come to mine if there’s an emergency and I need them. If you treat your subs well they will treat you well.

So I searched 70's ranch plans and drawing my own in sketchup. I think with all the CAD and keeping up with the Jones' is pushing architects to try and create flashy designs. But what good is it if there aren't builders skilled enough to pull it off without these major defects. A return to simple is my vote.

This is an older video so I’m sure you won’t see/respond to this but It’d be cool if you did. Anyways, I noticed that the “required by manufacture” tape is made by the same company that made the sheet (dunno the proper term sorry). Of course that makes sense that they’d recommend their own product, because why wouldn’t they?What I’m curious about is if you mark it as wrong because it’s not their brand, or if you don’t care about that kind of brand malarkey and it was wrong for another reason. Like is it required in code for some reason that it HAS to be what the manufacturer recommends and thus HAS to be their product, rather conveniently if that’s the case. Though I’m almost sure that it’s not; I am just curious is all. Also not trying to condemn you at all, and it was a great video!
@constructivainspections4 ай бұрын
Yo! Thanks for commenting. The code book states in about a hundred different places that a manufacturer's product has to be installed according to their instructions. To me it makes sense that a manufacturer would insist the installation of their system (say sheathing, fasteners, tape, flashing, for example) be from the same product line as that way they can control quality of material in their system. For products that don't have all of those items, the instructions will usually state the other materials meet an ASTM standard. That helps them with warranty claims in case the Tyvek wrap was installed with band-aids as flashing tape. Not sure if that makes sense but hope that steers you in the right direction!
@beaglator4 ай бұрын
@@constructivainspections That does make sense and was a possibilty I was leaning towards after commenting.
