Just nice to see im not the only builder left. I am at my field. Lol. Ps - it cracks me up that you keep calling the top the bottom and the bottom the top because the plane is upside down. 😉

That "OWWW! We're gonna have a talk later... '' earned you a subscribe! Beautiful cub and very ingenious modifications and upgrades. I'm getting ready to pull out my 1/4 scale cub after a year and a half hiatus on the build. Still have to build the left wing, mount all the electronics and controls, and then finish and cover. I appreciate your mentioning earlier the fiberglass reinforcement around the elevator control horn mount and the joint between the nose and cabin. This cub is my first ever rc plane, as well as my first balsa build, and that was something that would have slipped past me, as Sig mentions nothing about it. I'll have a DLE-30 on my plane, and my firewall is in the location as per the plan. It fits under the cowling still, but the prop will stick a little further out than it should. I assume this may effect CG slightly when it comes time to balance the plane, so I may move the firewall back before all is said and done. I'll be using Sig Koverall for the covering. The fillet area around the stab/fin is one of a little concern for me, buy I'm going to try my best to get it to come out smooth. Speaking of the stabilizer/fin area, any tricks or tips to mounting them to the airframe? Sig is largely silent in the manual as to how to attach them. It seems there may be a better way than just flat attachment with epoxy, maybe a couple dowels here and there? Again, I'm a novice, but I want to make sure I have the strength I need in that area. Again, beautiful bird, and thank you for these videos, they're very helpful!

Hi Andy, I wouldn't worry about the changes, now that you can see where the struts need to be placed. However can emphasize with the awesome covering job you did on the wing. Getting close to that maiden. Stay safe.

Don't you just love Sig kits? I finished up the 1/6 scale Clipped Wing last January. Perfect. It fits in my car! You'll love your Cub, Andrew. They fly like a baby carriage with wings. Does all the aerobatics you want and if you just want to relax and dose off at the sticks she'll almost fly herself. You've got a gorgeous plane there.

Don't be pissed, be happy you remembered. And, minor repairs give the Cub that lived in look - character.

I drilled through my struts and epoxied some carbon rod then sanded flush on my belt sander. Beautiful plane.

That's a nice alternative. I think I'll use the same method with wood dowels when I get to that in my Sig Cub build.

I just hate the fact that I had to cut off some of my brand new covering! Oh well life happens, it'll still fly.

Andrew: a question if I may. I built up a building table almost like yours with a 21mm Birch ply top. However, I am getting sag of about 3mm (1/8") in the middle. How have you prevented that same situation? BTW, love your channel, and yes, I have also made many screw ups when I thought I was being clever and inventive. But that is how we learn.

@@n1114v I have one. Maybe I need some more. Maybe also I made a poor choice in the wood I used for the frame. It is a coarse grained wood called Meranti that we get here. We are not so lucky as you guys in the US in the choice of wood on your doorstep. Have a good day.

Hi Andrew- Really enjoying your videos, getting me re-interested in sport scale. I inherited a full-span 1/4 Scale Sig Cub, (already framed up, about ready to cover) and would like to make it a clipped wing. Should I modify it by cutting area from the roots of each wing (like full-scale) or would it be best (easier?) to get a clipped wing kit from Sig?

I removed 2 bay's from the tips of the wing, its easier that way because the center section is already finished

i use a hinge at wing join i can fold strut flat with wing for transport ps the jury strut was to stop vibrateing
@n1114v
@n1114v 3 жыл бұрын
They do eliminate vibration but they also keep the struts from collapsing

I'm surprised you didn't use dowels instead of just epoxy in your strut holes.

I was going to but epoxy is a lot stronger

Given that you've shortened the struts and made nice strong new ones the jury struts will not now be structural so are not actually required. If you wanted them for effect they could be velcroed in place - just sayin :-)
@n1114v
@n1114v 4 жыл бұрын
For normal flying and light aerobatics you are correct that Jury struts are not necessary but I'm building this one with heavy aerobatics and mind to do for airshow acts at the Flying events I go to so the jury struts are absolutely structurally necessary
