Our family friend went down with the boat he was on due to that. They had loaded up with crab and were on the way back with a full hold when the pots iced up. There was so much weight with everything the boat tipped and went down with all hands. It happened before I was born or when I was really little and it's a common story. @@Elnalgon_18 NTSB and Coast Guard investigated the sinking, that was their finding. And it's a known fact in bad conditions with freezing spray that it can add over 4000 pounds every 15 minutes. It's brought down a lot of ships. She sunk because she had an estimated 340,000 pounds of extra weight on her, aka ICE. He's going to have one less relief captain with her gone, and they are going into some ruthless seas on this trip out, so he is really taking the weight on his shoulders to protect her. This particular clip has made me really respect that man. Sig is the best captain on the Bering Sea, without a doubt. Every baby needs the mother in his or her immediate vicinity, especially in the first year of life. This is very important for the development of the child but is grossly underestimated nowadays. The grandfather sensed what was good for the child and it's also better for his daughter.

When she said 7:04 “I was in the same position last year, it’s not that big of a difference!” THAT really pissed me off because thats both incredibly naïve and selfish to say as a mother with a newborn at home but when she quickly realized how f-up that was to say and at 7:19 “It’s a huge difference actually” that was such a huge relief! at the moment i knew she’s gonna be a good mom. ❤️

I have a lot of respect for Mandy. She doesn't *have* to do any of this. But she knows it's in her blood, and she is earning her legacy just like her dad and his dad before her. Being a woman and being a mom on top of that makes it twice as hard for her to be out there, and she's not giving up. Her grandfather would be very proud.
