Just picked my up yesterday. I've used a P229 for years now and words can't describe how awesome the pistol is.

Great informative video on both these variants, appreciated. Surprised by how few people however have reviewed / commented. I will definately be turning into your site. I had a look at my local Gunsmiths at the P229 versions and I must say, I'm stoked. Not wanting to appear as too keen, otherwise they will keep the price higher than I will be able to negotiate as part exchange.

I have the SAO version and it may be the best all-around gun I've ever owned, and I have had some high-end pistols. Since I shot 1911s in competition so many years, I still manage to ride the damn slide stop driving my thumb down hard on the safety. Buy one..and work the slide stop with the support hand thumb.

Have a P229 Legion and it has become my favorite gun. Expensive but to me well worth the money. Of all my guns this would be the one I would keep!

I have the regular 226 Legion. It has to be the softest-shooting non-target-model 9mm pistol I've ever fired. Am seriously considering the SAO model for competition.

Love Sigs overall, but I can't stand the control locations. If Sigs were all you ever owned and shot, it wouldn't be an issue. However, the control location is so much different than most other pistols, it's hard to transition back and forth. Also, Sig just plain charges too much. Please spare me the Sig fanboy defense of their pricing. There are SO MANY great pistols out there now-a-days that are in just about every respect as good as Sigs, and they all cost a lot less.

David Giles I don’t see an issue with controls at all. I switch from Sig, to 1911, to M&P, to Ruger Mk IV all the time with no issues. There is only a decocker and slide release, so whats the fuss? Yeah, price is up there and I agree kind of crazy, but the work is impeccable and they are a Porsche compared to the Glock Honda Civic.

thats just because europeans brands have factories in the US now to avoid import rules for the US. And you still have diffeculties to get CZ and SPS guns ;-)
