Geez, it was a "deer-filled" day at the range, all through the video. I was just now watching the video and noticed for the first time that I actually came pretty close to shooting a deer accidentally at about 25:15 or so. I didn't remember that deer running up through the range from right where I was hitting / missing. A miss or two on the cowboy could have popped that rascal down in the gully before he took off up the hill. In fact, he might have taken off so fast because a round or two hit the ground where he was, or maybe even grazed him.

Watched a great video recently with 2 guys talking about backplate shooting which was the first time I ever heard the term. One guy mentioned a pro competition shooter talking sights & how he never even sees his front sight. I've yet to get to the range since then but obviously that barrel aligns with the backplate & it makes perfect sense so have to get out to try it. Check out Mike Glover under Fieldcraft Survival he has some great videos. I checked one of these out a few months back at my local guy's shop & the sight absolutely intrigued me. I have a P938 SAS which is a great little firearm & looking to get just the basic P365 the next week or so.

Gonna pick this up tomorrow. This will be my only CCW so the concern of switching sites does not matter to me. I think the issue people are having is you're supposed to focus on the target and have the sites as your peripheral...so all you see is this green dot when you do it this way (whereas people focus on the site and try to get it as dead center as possible). Also, this gun requires a lot of practice (the regular 365 requires a lot of practice) so for those who buy it and take it to the range, shoot it, hate it, and return it...I don't think you're practicing enough.

So the sights are different, the biggest hurdle IMHO is training sight acquisition reflexively which you can do dry a dozen times a day before bed and be on it in shot time. As far as accuracy, you do lose some resolution compared to good irons but nothing that would be an issue inside 25m which is more or less the intended range. What you may lose in the sight picture I feel was offset by the fabulous trigger and easy shooting for a sub compact. All in all I think this is an excellent concealed Cary pistol.

No maintenance, I have carried every day since and it shoots just as well as ever. I find the sight picture closer to a red-dot acquisition than normal “iron sights.” Just look for the green circle over what you want to hit. The biggest thing is, with how you’re not actually looking through the sight, further shots are difficult but it’s a carry gun I don’t think I have a high chance of needing to hit a 50 yard shot with a 3” barrel length.

I got to hold one of these yesterday for the first time. It was very apparent to me that the sight system is able to be used either way for short or long distance shooting. You can use the green dot and ring for up close quick acquisition (if it works for you), but the sight body itself resembles a traditional 3 blade sight system. That's the point of the grooves on top. Is it as good as a regular 3 blade sight? Maybe not, and I'll have to save that judgement for a day at the range with a rental. That probably explains why Hickok said he was shooting high with it though, as it seems pretty clear he was just focusing on the green. Cool gun either way. It felt fantastic in my hand, and I may be trading my P938 for one of these in the near future. I'd be looking for the standard slide release if I had the SAS model though. That was easily the worst feature about it and completely unnecessary from a snagging standpoint.

I have a 365 SAS and I really like it but I have to agree with his assessment. I love the design, the complete snag free sights. HOWEVER, regardless of training, and speed of acquiring the sights, because the sights are built into the slide, the slide ALWAYS obscures a significantly greater portion of your target than if they were mounted on top . Trying to shoot a 10” disc at 10 yards is much harder because you can literally not see what you’re aiming at since the entire target is obscured by the slide. This is definitely not a precision/ range gun. That being said, in a self defense scenario, you aren’t going to be trying to land a headshot. You will most likely be 10 yards or less and aiming at the center of a torso, so you will have a large enough portion of your target that is visible above and to the sides of the slide to land your shots accurately.

Do you pay for you deer hunts? Or just a season permit. How much does it cost? In south africa hunting is ridiculously expensive because everything is on private owned farms and you have to pay the farmer. Its about $400 to hunt one antelope springbok and much more if your targeting bigger species.
@xenonram5 жыл бұрын
@@keanur6541 it all depends on what state you're in, some states have a ton of private land and some have mostly WMA/BLM land. Samsung S4 I’m not very familiar with this topic but my dad has been hunting all type of game since he was little so I know a few things, like the other commenter said it all depends on what state you’re in and what land you’re hunting on. But for simplifying reasons, white tail deer is probably by far the most common game that is hunted here. So you would need a permit and a tag (depends on the season and state) to hunt a deer. And tags can range from ~$50-$200 just for the game. And yes you pay for that game (that what a tag is for and if you want to hunt on private property you will have that set in the tag saying you have permission for hunt a certain game/quantity of game in that property) so if you shoot an animal and it didn’t die and/or you lost it, you already paid for the tag so no worries but however if you do kill certain game, you are required to process meat meaning you can’t leave it there after you killed it. (Again all depends on the game and season and what state you are in again) In the U.S.A. We have Bow and Arrow Season, Rifle/Shotgun seasons and even black power and ball seasons (Modern musket basically) so yeah. Right now it’s mating season for White Tail Deer so I’m sure it’s expensive to go hunting right now if it’s even allowed in a set state for example. You can see a buck in the video chasing a doe or chasing another buck out of there territory lol they get aggressive when there are horny 😂 but to educate you more on hunting here in the states. I know in Texas and most of the South Eastern states have a savior problem with Wild Boars destroying farm land and disrupting the local ecosystem where Texas stated you can just kill as many wild boars as you want and there is no special permits or tags for it but you will need permission to hunt on private properties.

I like this sight because of the single plane focus. It is a bit slower, but from 0 - 12ft I don't use sights anyway. If I'm not mistaken FBI stats state that most shootings take place within 0 - 12ft. Fight like you train, train like you fight. Keep up the good work.

Been so interested in one of the sighted models since the gun was released. Saw initially there were issues with the firearm. Waited a while. Went to try one at a range. It was a great shooting pistol in close range. Two weeks later I got one. I'd fully feel safe with this in defense of myself.
@LoadedAnswer5 жыл бұрын
At least you got one with good sights... Tim, over at MAC, got one that wouldn't shoot to POA and couldn't hit the target straight on at 10 yards. Thanks for sharing!
@hickok455 жыл бұрын
Yeah, and it's hard enough to find the sights quickly anyway, pretty much too slow to even use them at "typical" defensive distances. I think MAC's were shooting left, so that makes them even MORE useless.

I finally tried a rental SIG P365 SAS and... I liked it. A lot. Maybe a little more than my Shield Plus. The SAS was the only rental I tried that day that actually made me say "Wow!" out loud to nobody in particular. Only disappointment? If there's tritium in that funky FT Bullseye sight, I couldn't detect it when I covered the top of the slide to block light from the fiber optics. Maybe it would glow slightly in pitch dark, but I was hoping for a more distinct glow. Both the P365 and Shield Plus are incredibly capable pocket rockets, and the SIG doesn't feel as tiny as it looks. Even with my long orangutan fingers the SIG grip felt perfect. Of all the pistols I tried that day, including my own Shield Plus and a borrowed Performance Center ported Shield Plus, the SAS was the quickest to get hits on a torso target at indoor home distances, including double taps. The grip angle seemed the same as my Shield Plus so there's no adjustment to my familiar hold. With my Shield Plus I practice looking over the sights at close range, with the front sight white dot floating above the two dot rear sight. With the SAS I put the green dot on target. The SAS was just as quick, maybe quicker. In double taps and point shooting I didn't notice the slight differences in the triggers (again, comparing with my Shield Plus). I didn't try any slow fire bullseye shooting. At 5-7 yards and closer, no problems. At 10 yards double tap shots were dispersed all over the target but all on paper. At 18 yards, umm... I'd need to spend a lot more time with the SAS to pull off any Hickock45 80 yard gong ringing hits. I'm very farsighted and need to switch to reading glasses for accurate sight alignment with any gun, but then the target is blurry. In any realistic emergency scenario I won't be wearing glasses, so putting the blurry green dot on close-up targets is fine. Alas, this SAS had no ported barrel/slide, so I couldn't compare with the ported Performance Center Shield Plus. But, TBH, the only difference I noticed between the ported Shield Plus and my own was the muzzle blast inside the indoor range. Not horrible, but kinda loud. I'm not good enough to take advantage of the slight benefit of reduced muzzle flip with a ported micro pistol. I'll definitely be looking for a good used SAS if one wanders my way, ported or not.

A friend & I tried the regular P365 at a range & both of us really liked it. Would be happy to have any of these. Thank you for the review.
I agree. I sometimes carry my XDs in my pocket in a holster and it is easy to draw without snagging anything. A well-designed conventional sight can be made very snag-free with very simple design choices. No need for a goofy sight good only to 10 yards. Sure, most defensive encounters are at 10 yards or less, but my state requires qualification at 25 yards for my “certified agent” class and there is good reason for that. I won’t carry a pistol that I can’t reliability use to hit man-size targets at 50 yards. I would carry a gun with oddball sights where the manufacturer explicitly says they are designed for 10 yards or less.

Excellent review and discussion. I practice the same safety principles in regards to the loaded chamber: pistols that are carried live in a holster with a chambered round (and the holsters don’t require me to unholster in order for me to don said holster). Pistols that are not carried are never stored with a round in the chamber. I’ve gotta say that I really like the Loaded Chamber Indicator that sig has on the 365s. The tiny notch makes it very easy to confirm if a round is chambered (especially rounds with nickel-plated cases) without adding another component to the gun (like those that have a piece that protrudes only if a round is chambered, which technically is also another potential source of snag). I’ve never carried without a holster (i.e., I’ve never pocket-carried), but the 365 SAS seems like a good option for pocket carry without a holster (with no round in the chamber). It even seems like a good candidate for carrying in one of those fabric-type holsters some ladies use (like a thigh holster or one of those belly-band holsters). Though the people that would benefit the most from the anti-snag features don’t make up a big fraction of the CCW market, the fact that the P365 SAS exists might make a someone (especially a woman) make the decision to carry a gun on them every single day. So good on Sig for bringing this option to the market, however niche it may be.

I think that a major point is being missed. The alternative is just having a gutter trench on top of the slide. It is much improved with this new style site over nothing. I have both the standard 365 and the new SAS. Most average Joes, in a self defense situation will not wait to see the front site at 10 feet. Maybe not even 20 feet. As far as the gun being in a pocket holster, of course you should use one, it still makes it come out easier to not have a front sight grabbing it.

I recently bought the non ported version of the sas..grabbed it bcuz it NO ports and I was surprised how quickly/easily I picked up the sight..I have a standard 365 which I love n shoot very well..I bought the sas bcuz well it was only fun available I’d buy and I figured it would be my truck gun..after several trips to the range it’s no doubt I shoot the sas more accurately, quicker and even at distance my groups r tighter..I for sure thought I’d shoot it worse n it would just be an expensive back up but I’ve swapped it with my standard 365. One point of concern is the low light dot visability on the sas as well as the transition from light to dark. Will have to play around with lighting conditions to confirm which I’d prefer in those situations but that aside the sas is my new edc. Note: has 800 rounds thru it no issues..also I’m replacing slide lock/release with standard as I prefer that upon reload (or at least the option)
