1. The slide isn't a paperweight as it is indeed still functional as it is.. just not with an optic. 2.The slide IS salvageable.. don't take it to a gunsmith as they are limited with their expertise and tooling.. instead, take it to a verified "Precision Machine Shop". They'll either: a. plug the holes and re-tap new ones to spec... b. tap a slightly larger hole for a screw that will still fit the optics' hole (thought the head may sit a bit higher or c. drill + tap a larger size and then use a heli-coil insert to bring it back to the original thread size

You need to drill a small little hole into it. Take a small eye glass screwdriver and sum lil epoxy on it. Jam it into the little hole u drill. Let cure and remove.

I'm glad you had good luck with customer service. I have a p365xl and when you pull the slide back to chamber a round you can feel the fire control unit lift up a little. They told me it was normal. I put the fire control unit in my other one and it's tight. Didn't want to help at all. Everyone that shoots it all have the same thing to say, what the heck. Two people at the range I go to have changed their mind on buying one because of it.

That’s crazy man, had this almost happen to me yesterday. Picked up my first Sig from my local gun store here in Dallas today. Gotta say, this P365X is truly fascinating with the design and feel that it possesses. Coming from my edc Glock 19, to finding something that weighs less and yet holds 18 rounds with 1 in the head / 17 in mag is mind blowing! This is also my first mos handgun, so I decided to pair it with a HS507K as the cherry on top. Something told me to have the gunsmith there just go ahead and instal my optic. To my surprise the 1st P365x Macro had a thread issue so they did an even swap exchange for another P365X Macro and got me set up right. Funny thing, I almost pulled the trigger (pun intended) on a Glock 43x and now I’m glad I found a true middle ground between my Glock 19 and a 43. I’m looking forward to being able to break this in and zero it out.

Glad to hear that you had a good experience with SIG customer service as mine has been a mixed bag! I bought a new P556 swat 10” pistol in 2015 that came with a scratched receiver from the installation of the quad rail. Sent it back and SIG used the old sharpie trick for a quick and cheap fix and wouldn’t repair it to a factory finish after I complained! Then my new P226 9 mm broke its recoil spring and SIG said it’s over a year old! ( this pistol was part of a contract overrun and came with np3 internal parts coatings and a fde finish through Robar that took over a year to complete before being sold to me ) My new P 522 had a recall for the recoil assembly and was sent a new kit for free ( yea !) then that kit was defective and I had to pay for the latest fix! Now to your stripped screw problem. My new VP 9 was ready for its new Acro p-2 to be mounted until I stripped the torx head. I was able to remove the screw by using a square tapered shaft screw extractor after I lightly hammered it into the striped torx bore. I got very lucky! Aimpoint recommends 10 inch pounds for mounting plate screws after adding a small dab of blue loctite to the threads. Be sure to mark your screws to see if they are backing out. Stay safe and healthy! Ron

I just bought one and gun shop mounted a holosun 507k on it. He kept saying that he was having a hard time with the right screw but he finally got it on. When I got home and was checking it out I noticed that the front of the red dot was slightly crooked so I went to loosen up the screws to center it the left one no problem the right one he was having trouble with the head just snapped off and I barely applied any pressure to it. I tried to remove the broken stud with vice grips and it didn't work so I stopped there and called sig and sent it back so hopefully they will be able to remove it. So if it was your right screw maybe a defect with that right side

Love your honesty, but to be fair. 5)3 screw are really really tight. You’re not alone in that. The mags are tight, I couldn’t even get the full 17 in both my new mags. And it’s extremely hard to rack a round in on a full mag. It’s still new so I get it but you almost can’t depend on it till you have some rounds in it. EDC or just the night stand gun. Which for 800 out of the box, I want that thing to run and be smooth because it will never be that clean again.

I did the same thing to my X Macro too. Even with the tiniest broken screw extractor I could find it still wasn’t small enough. The EZ out ended up breakigg my off in the screw that was broken off in the slide. I was still able to put the cover plate on it but ended up selling it to someone who had no intention of putting an optic on it. Why am I sharing this? Because I too felt like an idiot, and I’m relieved I’m not the only one! I have decided that from now on, any optic or “gunsmithing” will be done by a gun smith.

What did you end up doing build wise ? Curious to know.. I mean that one post is gone but I’m sure red locktite to a single post could do the trick or some sort of bonding material, it would make it permanent but it’s a optic on a 5 Hundo and some change …

I just received my Holosun HE507K-GR-X2 and was so excited to strap it onto my XMacro. While the original plate came off without a hitch, the supplied screws (the thinner of the two sets) from the Holosun would not screw all the way into the slide. The right screw (facing from behind) would not screw in with the torque wrench set at 15 inch pounds, so I had to use a screwdriver. And the left screw wouldn’t go in halfway, so I had to use the allen screw that had been used on a RomeoZero mounted to a P365XL. What a goat rope! So now I cannot back out the allen screw on the left side, as the head appears to be stripped out. Guess I’m gonna need to purchase some reverse bits to attempt to back it out? I haven’t even shot the XMacro yet, and indeed this is a bad taste in my mouth, especially for how much I paid for this handgun.

I have found the people at Sig to be great. This problem you had, I have heard before. I think if you did nothing, you may have come out better. Thank God Sig is modular. Best of luck and thank you for sharing. Possibly this will help the next person this happens to (And there probably with great liklyhood be many others) learn to to try to fix anything on their own. I have sent 2 of mine back, and they replaced my extractor, barrel and some other things (I forget what) and this was all on a P365. Take care.

I almost went down the same rabbit hole. I was taking the plate off. The first screw came out with no problem. The second one started to strip. I kept messing with it and it was getting worse. One of my coworkers does carpentry on the side. He was able remove the screw with out any damage. There are a lot posts on different forums, about people having problems removing these screws. I had a slide optic plate screw head strip out on my macro.i believe the lock tight plus torque was the issue.i used my micro Dremel to cut a flat tip screwdriver slot in the head, then heated the screw a couple times with my electrical soldering iron.i tapped the edge of the screw and broke it loose.it took all of a half hour but did scratch my removable base plate.thanks lee

It happens man. When i first bought my P365 XL i tried removing the rear sight plate to put a red dot on but the screws wouldn’t budge. Long story short, I ended up stripping them out and used a drill to drill them out. Fortunately for me i got them out without messing up the threads in the slide. Unfortunately i did mess up the rear sight thread and had to buy a new one.

I had this happen with my P365xl & I used a double sided micro extractor bit. I heated up an Allen wrench with a torch until it was red hot holding it with Vice grips then I placed it on the stripped screw while continuing to heat the opposite end to loosen the loctite. Then using the micro extractor kit I kept drilling until it came out. I didn’t think it was gonna come out because it looked about as bad as yours but it did without damaging the threads. I started with the smallest bit & worked my way up until it finally came out & it took me all the way until the biggest bit in the kit before it came out 😆.

Thank you for your honesty. I do believe it is your fault. That said, this is an understandable situation. Kudos to you for just owning it and showing us what happened without drama. Repect. It appears Sig incorporated a pair of thin-walled stand-offs around the holes, reducing the chance for shearing force to break off the screws. Sort of a stand-in for a set of rear pegs, but at the cost of reducing screw diameter slightly. Your experience has been a cautionary one to the rest of us. Use blue locktite and a torque measuring device and ensure they're strait on not over-torqued which can otherwise happen. If you were to set up a Give-Send-Go I'd happily chip in twenty dollars towards a new slide. Hopefully you have an XL slide available to use as a stand-in until this is resolved. Thanks for sharing this.

I am retired and have worked in machinery trades in Illinois. And what you have there is a frozen bolt. Up here in Illinois we have shops the use EDM or Electrical Discharge Machines to erode the bolt out. Tool and Die makers and repair shops use them all the time. I would search Texas and see if they have any Machine shops that perform EDM or search outside of Texas. I have had several Vintage World War 1 and 2 rifles that had stubborn bolts frozen in receivers along with several newer rifles that had cross threaded bolts removed from receivers. Look the process up? It is a wizard using magic to remove metal and save Paper weights…….

My hellcat pro osp was hard to get off too. They had blue loc tite on the screws. I went to take mine off and busted my knuckles all over the slide. Luckily I didn’t mess anything up. Idk if SIG puts their plates on as tight as Springfield does , but damn. They should just snug them and allow the owner to tighten them down. Most people are removing them and installing optics anyway.

Those screws should have had a locking compound on them to keep them from coming loose and trying to just muscle them out is not a good idea. Stick a soldering iron in the hole and heat it up until you smell the Loctite which means it's no longer working and they'll come out easily with a proper fitting driver.

@@nonesta13 The screw will heat up very quickly without transferring much at all to the rest of the slide or internal components...so no worries using the soldering iron in this way. 4 or 5 seconds is all it should take for those little screws to come right out.

Well one day during the pandemic I called Sig and they asked me to ship it to them to look at it ($50 dollars shipping label for both ways) anyway long story short they replaced the issues with new old parts and shipped it back to me. Not only did they fix the part they fixed it so it wouldn’t ever break again 👍

Only problem I've ever had with Sig was with my p320s. I have too, one with a thumb safety because of the whole drop safety issue. Apparently when dropped at a specific angle the trigger would continue under centrifugal force deactivate the firing pin safety would disengage and fire the weapon. So a thumb safety locking the trigger remedied the issue there the other doesn't have the thumb safety so I called Sig about the trigger upgrade and they tell me shipping labels otw. Till this day atleast a year later and I've called 2 more times since. Still waiting. This is the only issue I've ever had

I agree with others being critical of Sig. What? Do we have to have a degree in engineering now to remove a pair of screws??? We are talking about screws. They should use a larger stronger screw. Hold on. So SIG put too much locktite on a bolt which you heated up AND put anti-loctite on and the bolt still snapped? Then they told you they couldn't fix it and that YOU would have to pay for a new slide? That sounds like the company is overly greedy and wouldn't warranty a gun that was incorrectly assembled from factory. Sounds to me like Sig needs to get their act together.

Typical of SIG develop a product that is not well made, can't be fixed, and no resolution. The optics thing is just a hype that will play out over time if this keeps happening.

Consider that an inexpensive lesson on getting in over your head. Everyone does it and it only cost you a few hundred.

If you broke the screws in a Glock they'd fix it with only the charge of shipping. Sig don't care about our broken guns.

@@jackripper6033 yeah i guess it depends. Strikes and demonetization are pretty common for “pew” channels. This video already got put under review because I said “G--U--N” in it.
