This story quest had no business hitting this close to home... People who are considered physically ugly will always be scorned and despised, no matter what they do. And when they do become the bad people that the world has always perceived them to be, no one will second guess the motive about it or their backstory, they will be just that - one dimensional villains. Take Otto Apocalypse for example. If his face was unattractive, he'd quickly go from a well written villain with a motive, that did everything for the girl he loved to an evil creep who couldn't accept reality, and no one would bat an eye to his reasons for committing atrocities. Now, Sigewinne is a beautiful person, as well as physically cute, but do you think she would have remained a beautiful person on the inside had she failed to save her friend? She only managed to save her because she changed her appearance first. And also, Paimon is disgusting me more and more with each patch. First being awful to Furina in her story quest, and now changing her tune as soon as she saw Patton's real face.

The friend had passed away hundreds of years ago. Potton's mother is a separate person - she recognized Sigewinne's hand because Sigewinne treated her fever during her first visit together with Traveler and Paimon.

First off, Sigewinne's backstory is just another lazy retelling of The Little Mermaid as if the Oceanids and Furina didn't already have their own versions. Secondly Sigewinne is deemed guilty for altering her Melisine appearance into that of a human even though the Oceanids have used Primordial seawater to become humans themselves which put them into Celestia's crosshairs, this just proves that Egeria should never have granted these ungrateful Oceanids humanity cause the human-supremacism and their racism towards anyone non-human is just too strong in Fontaine as a whole.
