curious how it sounds in comparison to rode wireless go or dji or other shotgun microphones
@SightseeingStan12 күн бұрын
@@JurijsJutjajevs Yea would be a cool test! The thing is, those Rode wireless Go or DJI Wireless Mics are omnidirectional, so a whole different mic to begin with.

I have the Comica boom xd lav mics And then I bought the Dji mic two I was expecting some huge upgrade. I ended up returning the Dji mic two the Comica boom xd lav mic batteries last about four times longer than the Dji. It blew my mind for that much money. I was expecting Dji to be some huge impressive life-changing upgrade. I’m extremely happy with the Comica lav mics I can’t imagine the shotgun mic is just as good.

@ I do wood and metal working so I’ll be working on a project I turn on my lav mic and leave it on all day and have a external battery on my cam and just hit record when I need to but my devices stay on all day! And Comica lavs last all day and still have about 30% battery life and the audio sounds phenomenal!
@YoungBlaze9 күн бұрын
Only problem is that those lav mics do not have 32-bit float inside of them or recording
@ahdam829 күн бұрын
@ I’ll tell you what they sound great and when you post a video, no one will tell a difference and they do have internal recording! And they’re extremely affordable

Agree with the comment on the receiver feeling CHEAP. Outside of it being plastic, how would you say it compares to the DJI Mic2 receiver? Are the essential the same functionally and spec-wise? It seems like it... I've actually tried using the DJI Mic2 transmitters and receivers with the 2 VM40 Mics, it works! I think I get the best of both worlds (Shotgun Mic & DJI Receiver); Comments? THANKS, enjoyed your post.

@@SightseeingStan DJI Mic transmitter connected via TRS to each Comica Mic. I have not compared both methods (DJI vs. Comica Reciever) directly, nor would I trust my "amateur" ears to tell the difference if there was one..... 🙅♂

Interesting! Thanks for the video. For anyone interested it is €289 Euros currently so a bit too expensive to be labelled as budget in my humble opinion (yet each to their own). Have a great day all and much appreciated deep dive into this mic.

Glad you liked the video Jonathan! Sure, "budget" is subjective. But I'd say that for everything this mic can do, I wouldn't rate it as expensive.
@Eyeofkamau12 күн бұрын
Considering mics that don’t have these features are reaching $3,000.. this is most certainly a budget mic.

If I wanted wide shots wide angles would I need a boom pole to get the audio to sound great on iPhone or what would I do thanks?
@JROSS199812 күн бұрын
???
@SightseeingStan12 күн бұрын
A boom pole is for holding the mic in place, either on a boom stand or someone holding it. It doesn't directly influence the sound quality. But yes all this would work.
@JROSS199812 күн бұрын
@ ok I thought needed one to capture wide angles, I can put that little box recorder on the phone and use the mic wherever I want is that correct? Or I have to put the mic on the iPhone?
@thatsaloadofcrap6 күн бұрын
I'm confused about the distance the mic can be from the subject. You said it doesn't make any difference if you're recording internally. But doesn't the microphone itself have to be 6-18" from the subject to get good audio? I'm getting conflicting info, since One of the comments said he used it for a Wedding.... Please expand on distance limitations for shotgun mics for us audio novices. I've only had the mic for a week and it hasn't made it past voice-overs. Help me out before I crash and burn outside my voice overs.
@thatsaloadofcrap6 күн бұрын
ALSO, I splurged and got the 2-mic combo (can't pass up a bargain), I've experimented using dual-mono for voice-overs. Wow! I just sounds so much better. Am I wrong?
@SightseeingStan5 күн бұрын
Nice to hear you got a good deal! It probably sounds "bigger" because there's perhaps a slight delay between the two, I'm guessing? No idea, I have never done this...
@SightseeingStan5 күн бұрын
I'm talking about the distance you are away with the microphone from your camera. You are correct about the distance the mic should be from the person.

@@SightseeingStan Thanks! I am NOT a sound guy, except to know Good Video not possible w/o Good Sound! I'd be curious to know what all you experts think about dual shotguns, they do sound better, at least to my ear. It does sound like it's "a thing", maybe I stumbled onto the "next thing".... Comica would love me *lol*

Is the TRS out a balanced signal? Can we use a TRS-XLR cable (or 1/8" to 1/4" TRS cable) to get a balanced signal to plug into recorders, mixing boards, etc.? In other words, can the Comica VM40 be added to a traditional XLR cable system and be used just like any other microphone? (must carry a balanced signal)
@KavoshTech12 күн бұрын
Thank you, but you didn't mention that when it connects via a USB cable to a computer, does the 3.5mm jack work as Headphone output for monitoring like what the rode video mic NTG does?

This microphone looks great for the price! But I have a question. In the video you said when in wireless mode, it gets about 10 hours, but what if I am in wireless mode and also internal recording on the mic itself to make sure I have a backup if the reciever looses signal. How many hours would the mic last in this scenario?

Hi i got the dual transmitter version for 300 dollars (it was on sale in my country). Is that a good price for it? How does it stack up against something like a zoom m3 or a at875r + zoom f3 combo? Would love to hear your thoughts on this
@SightseeingStan12 күн бұрын
@@skmkenny I think that's a good deal yea. It's a 100$ discount, basically the price of the single version. I have no experience with those mic setups, so wouldn't be able to tell you! Sorry!

@ i see no problemo and thank you for the video! When you get the chance please check out the zoom m3 and maybe compare it to the vm40? It has a similar feature set but it sports user replaceable batteries and has an sd card slot while also being able to record in stereo. It’s an impressive product

How to use it on iPhone? And can it be attached to boom pole?
@SightseeingStan12 күн бұрын
If your iPhone has usb-c then yes. And yes you can mount this on a boom pole.
@JROSS199812 күн бұрын
@ what threads would I need is 1/4? 3/8? to connect it to boom pole and how good is it in windy conditions?
@SightseeingStan12 күн бұрын
@JROSS1998 it comes with adapter rings for all type of mounts. The mic also comes with a dead cat/wind screen, which will help with wind noise. Adding noise reduction or voice isolation in post usually helps a lot as well
@JROSS199811 күн бұрын
@ so would I put the receiver or the little box on the iPhone and then I can film wide angles and be able to carry the shotgun mic and it will capture or? I connect the mic to the phone and audio records that’s way?
@elvisbesmann388210 күн бұрын
The zoom M3 can do the same (32bit ) and it has already a few years on its back...
@HeathcliffBlair10 күн бұрын
Yup, plus it has an MS stereo record option that can be very useful. No wireless transmission though. The other drawbacks are the plastic build, and the MS recordings are a bit noisy. Nevertheless, it's versatile and I enjoy using it. 👍
@SightseeingStan10 күн бұрын
True! But it doesn't have all the other recording options as well. I think that is what makes the VM40 unique.
