Nice review, as a Fuji user i'm on the fence for this lens since i'm not that impressed with the 10-24 in relation to it's pricetag. If you get the chance to put it on a 40MP Fuji i would love a comparison to the competitors in terms of sharpness. I think your Sigma performed quite well, but i've also seen reviews where the Sigma was actually somewhat soft compared to the Tamron.

I tried two copies on my X-T5 and both were quite mediocre in terms of edge sharpness at 10mm, at all apertures from f2.8 to f8. My Laowa 9mm was consistently better than both copies. That's not important for many types of photography, but if you shoot architecture and landscapes it might be noticeable for you. (My testing was done at longer focal distances, unlike Christopher Frost's test chart shots. I think the lens performs better at closer distances)

Full frame shooter here, but I think this lens has a lot going for it. 13:29 No/to manageable distortion between 14-18mm, (most impressive). 10:32 Impressively low focus breathing. Beautifully defined sunstar spikes when stopping down. 2:03 And the diminutive size and weight, (2.8in. X 2.5in.). If they could have fit a clicky aperture ring on this thing while keeping it’s size….Barrel distortion plagues smaller size wide angle lenses but this Sigma, 10-18, DC, DN seems to solve that problem largely on the between 14-18mm focal lens (21-27 mm 35mm equivalent). I’m Thinking this could be a full frame option having better distortion control than many full frame 18mm, 20mm, 24mm, 28mm lenses.

I have the Fujifilm 40mp X-T5. I am intrigued with the combination of the Sigma 10-18 and 18-50 f/2.8 lenses for travel. Can you do a review of both lenses on the X-T5 or the X-H2? Much appreciated.
@anonymousl5150 Жыл бұрын
What is there to review, both are basically made for travel purposes
@scottallen6172 Жыл бұрын
?? Dustin mentioned he was interested in looking at the lens on the 40mp Fujifilm camera. I agree and I'd like to see how the 18-50 performs, as well. From your wording, are you implying that 'travel' photography is not worthy of high expectations and performance? This is my main interest in photography. I take it very serriously. I understand this is not a $1000+ lens, so I accept some compromises given the cost/size/weight. But it is helpful to know how they perform on the 40mp sensor before I spend my hard earned money on them.
@anonymousl5150 Жыл бұрын
@@scottallen6172 My point is you're going to get fine results. I mentioned travel because that's where zooms excel at, has nothing to do with performance but with versatility. The only difference with 40 mp apsc is that you'll hit diffraction earlier and all lenses will look softer at higher aperture numbers.

As the owner of a Sony a6400 body, this review was of significant interest to me. The Sony apsc body was purchased , mint 2nd hand, largely due to its stellar IAF, which I was seeking for very restless adults ( phone camera addicts) and , perhaps, more restless young children. I purchased the excellent Sigma 56 1.4 and a large fan of the Sigma lens line up for Sony apsc bodies. I also take pictures of landscapes, however, until the release of the Tamron ( perhaps the earlier Tokina which didn't really appeal) the field was rather empty with respect to wide angle zooms, given that I both travel and like landscape type shots. The lack of bells and whistles for video type work was of no concern, given that I take next to no videos. So it is that this is a very appealing lens. Invariably, when using glass of this focal range, I use aperture priority, and , subject to lighting, generally, just set the lens to 5.6 or so and the rest takes care of itself. Close up type shots are almost the reverse type of shots that I would purchase a wide angle zoom for, so no downside there. Dustin, have you alienated your human family subjects and are now reliant on canine subjects, hopefully not ! This appears to be an excellent wide angle zoom , the more so attached to my 6400 for travel. As usual, many thanks for the review.

Hey Dustin, it would help me a lot if you give me your opinion to solve this crossword puzzle. I have the Sony 16-55mm f2.8 and the Sigma 16mm, I want to add an ultra wide to my setup. I'm between Sigma 10-18 and Sony 11mm. I am not a vlogger, but I do take video and photos indoors and also outdoors, landscapes and real estate. I care a lot about the image quality, in favor of the Sony there is the aperture and the bokeh, but I am afraid that it is a very specific lens, although having the other lenses it may be a good addition. Maybe the Sigma is a more fun lens, I don't know. Which do you prefer? Thank you.
@DustinAbbottTWI Жыл бұрын
I would lean towards the 10-18mm. You've already got a wide angle lens with a fast aperture (16mm), so the versatility and quality of the 10-18mm makes it a great pairing with your 16-55mm

As you're not planning to compare the Sigma with the Tamron wide angle zoom for APSC, I'd like to ask you if you would recommend one over the other? When I watch both of your testing clips I have the impression that by picture quality the Sigma outrivals the Tamron. But I might be mistaken... There are some other questions though. When shooting in RAW is it necessary for both lenses to have the in camera corrections on? Is the color rendering on the Sigma very much different to a Tamron lens, as I'm using also the Tamron 18-300mm? I'd be glad to get an answer and thank you for in advance!
@DustinAbbottTWI Жыл бұрын
Some good questions. So yes, I do think the Sigma is slightly sharper than the Tamron. The Tamron's advantage is that it has a more thorough weather sealing, but I would otherwise lean towards the Sigma. I don't think you'll find the color rendering radically different.

Thank you for talking about the minimum focus distance at 18mm f2.8 being a little soft, you are the only channel that mentions this. 👍 Much better from 10-16mm but stopping down to f3.5 or 4.0 sharpens it right back. Not sure about that. I own sigma 56mm and Tamron 11-20. Sigma is definitely sharper, but raw images are heavily distorted, it's a prime and Tamron's zoom copes better in that regard.
@anonymousl5150 Жыл бұрын
@@JeremyKler That's because they went for software distortion correction to reduce the size of the lens. There are not many 1.4 primes at 56 mm that are that compact, in fact I can't think of any, while also being that sharp. It's also a fallacy to assume one model behaves like another completely different focal length.
@anonymousl5150 Жыл бұрын
@bigd7696 200 for more weather sealing? Weather sealing is one of the most overrated attributes, you see weather resitant lenses come into shops all the time. Moisture is more dangerous than shooting in the rain. It's not just heavier but longer. 260 vs 335 grams is a big differnce in actual usage. I say get the Tamron if you prefer 20 mm over the 10 mm. Optically they're about the same.
