Hello. I had the sony zeiss 24-70mm second hand but had to return it (fully refunded 700 euro) because it gut stuck at 70mm (too expensiveto repair). Now I'm very hesitant to buy another Carl Zeiss. Is this Sigma a good alternative.

I use the sigma 24-105 on my gh6 with a speedbooster and it’s awesome. Lots of zoom range and opens up to f2.5. On my s1h, I’m selling my lumix 24-70 because it’s just too expensive to not be using it much lol so question! Would you sell the lumix 24-70 and get the sigma 24-70 or would you just stick to using the 24-105 at f4 on my full frame s1h? I shoot interviews, where I mainly use the sigma 24-35, 50 1.4 & 85 1.4. The sigma 24-105 lives on my gh6 but wondering if having both sigma zooms is redundant? Thanks!
@StevenSchulzPhoto Жыл бұрын
If I would have to choose which one to keep between the 24-105 f4 and the 24-70 f2.8 I would pick the f2.8 version every single time. my biggest downside of the sigma is the weight. it is pretty heavy but the quality is really good. Maybe check out how much you actually use the focal range from 70-105 and if you actually utilize it. you can see that Lightroom. maybe that can help you make a choice. I find it really hard to give a clear recommendation in that regard. I hope that helps.

Thanks for a great video. You mention that the F4 version is a little bit more expensive than the 2.8 version. In fact, it can almost always be used as a rule of thumb, that the 2.8 version is at least twice as expensive. Same goes for the last of the holy trinity, the 70-200, which in 2.8 is often 3 times more expensive than the F4 version

I contacted B&H and I asked them what's a good lens for use on a BMPCC 6K in a podcast where the camera is about 3 to 8ft away. How do you feel about that?
@StevenSchulzPhoto Жыл бұрын
To be honest it strongly depends on different factors. One big thing I like about it is that you don’t have to deal with a large amount of distortion at 24mm and have a really strong zoom especially when the distance to the subject is not that far. But there are more factors that need to be considered to make a good decision. The size of set, how many people will be in the scene… b&h are pretty knowledgeable when it comes to that though.

It’s a great Allrounder. Question is will you need the extra focal length range 70-105. And are you ok with not giving up the aperture of 2.8 for 4… for me I chose the 24 to 70 because I have a 16 to 35 mm and also a 70 to 200 mm so it was easy for me to decide. Yes I need a 24 to 70 to fill the gap.

This is 10 months later. LOL!!! So, yes you can use an EF lens on a crop-sensored (EFS mount) Canon. It works like a charm. Unfortunately, you cannot switch in the opposite direction. That is, Canon lenses designed for the EFS mount will only work on that mount. As a matter of fact, because the EFS mount protrudes into the camera, it will damage a full-frame camera. I bet you know this by now. But, I feel so happy that I actually have knowledge on this topic and can share it with you. LOL. Happy shooting!!!!

Definitely worth considering. I personally love the versatility of the 24-70 and don’t mind that I may sacrifice on some slight sharpness. And to be honest the 24-70 definitely is still really sharp. The only downside I see for this lens is it’s weight. It is definitely on the heavier side.

@Steven Schulz I have the R5 and I feel that the camera have way too much details so a lil less sharp image is not a problem for me and my customers may not even notice it.

people say this is a versatile lens but 70mm does not seem like its enoigh for telephoto images/video?
@StevenSchulzPhoto Жыл бұрын
For telephoto shots probably not. A 70 to 200 mm would be better for that for sure. I do use that focal length a lot for video and photo because I can go wide enough and tight enough for the most part. 🤷🏼♂️

Heyho :) Thank you for a great video and content in general :) Sorry, if my question will sound strange to you, but right now I'm thinking of a good versatile video lens for my canon r6. I'm a bit confused and don't know what is better option between canon EF 24-70 f4 IS and this sigma f2.8 lens. Maybe you have some thoughts on this topic? :) I know that there is no perfect lens, but still a bit stuck :D
@StevenSchulzPhoto Жыл бұрын
So the Canon F4 version definitely is a little bit lighter. What you give up with that is the aperture which can be a big deal depending on what you’re going to use it for. the Sigma 24 to 70 F2. Eight is a great lens. Auto focus works fine as well. The only downside I see on that lens is that it is pretty heavy, but it does also have stabilization and a MF/AF switch. Me personally if I would have to decide between the EF 24 to 70 f4 and the Sigma 24 to 70 F2.8 I definitely would choose the sigma. but that’s just me. I hope that helped. 🤷🏼♂️ if you have any specific questions, let me know.
@slavafast Жыл бұрын
@@StevenSchulzPhoto Wow, that was pretty fast 😄 Thank you so much for sharing and your answer, really appreciate that 🙌 And yeah, I'm also thinking that the only downside of sigma could be a weight (and maybe a bit price). Looking forward to sell my 85mm and buy a this versatile lens :D

Hello, would the 17-70 2.8 have the same quality?
@StevenSchulzPhoto2 жыл бұрын
So this lens is part of Sigmas contemporary series and will not have Sigma‘s best glass. Also, it’s part of their ASPC sensor lineup. It definitely is smaller and lighter. When it comes to the aperture of 2.8 if you converted to full frame it would be a F4. I would say definitely very versatile, and can definitely get you some good results. Unfortunately, I do not have any experience with that specific lens.
