Hi Mister Abott, At first, you're so easy to reed on your website, easy to anderstand and fellow on video. :) I live in France, between Bordeaux and Cognac. I read your reviews for a while, Every time great reviews ! At first, it semes that you are an human person, in the good way. Yesterday I bought the Sigma in Nikon mount (D750), my reseller sell of the Tamron ad bad price and don't have any Nikon mont fort test : business for rules, newer is better, burning what we loved yesterday... Till today, I use an old 80-200-D-AFD : there is nothing to compare with the Sigma : resolution at f2,8, loca, AF speed, accuracy and stabilisation (1/15s at 200mm/standard is ok in kitchen at night, under ambiant light). Whoaw it's amazing ! I suspected it had progressed but not so much. The Sigma t's heavy, more than my old 80-200 AFD Nikkor lens. Not especialy feel heavier in the first time, but i think I should do some muscles exercices... I confirm that tripod collar is too much when you do not need it... Building quality is outstanding, it smells indestructible and infinitesimal finish détails are great. The lens out of the box ont the D750 seems to give excellent sharpness results all along the range at f2.8. Stopping down, it's ultra razor shape. No or almost mechanical noise, AF speed is ok on a motobicycle or cars roling in town at 6 m (+/- 18 feet/200mm). Bokeh is smooth, color rendering is well ballenced (concrete blocks wall dont pull à bit magenta like your test), good contrast even at F2,8 for a good relief rendering. I will buy the usb dock for setting C1/C2 and barrel button at first time. For the moment i'm very happy with this new lens. Thanks mister Abbott for the big job you've done for us with this lens (and all the other lens). PS : excuse me for my scholastic english, i lack some practice... :)

The Sigma lens is currently on sale for $50 cheaper than the Tamron at $1250. I want to purchase one of these lenses but my issue is weight and focus breathing. This year I started, probably like most, and didn’t want to shell out a chunk of change until I knew I was going to stick with it. I now know I’m going to stick with it so I’ve only been buying FF glass for my m6 2 and I am regretting not spending a little more for a FF body. Live and learn. Keep up the good work.

I'm not sure if you are aware of it but Sigma and Tamron lenses focus and zoom in different directions. Not a huge deal, but if you already know that your gonna get 2 Tamron lenses you might want to consider to just stick with Tamron.

@@timotheus34 Thank you. I am aware of that but I don't think it will be too much of a problem. Thank you for the heads up though. I would definitely recommend the Tamron 28-75 for your Sony. It works so much better than the 24-70 adapted. Tamron has just announced a 17-28mm F2.8 wide angle zoom for Sony, too, with signs pointing to a 70-200 (or something like that) before the year is out. That’s the route I would personally go.

Which one would be your preference? The Canon 70 to 200 F2.8 L Series version 2 or the Sigma Sport 70-200? Because right now they're pretty much in the same price range if I got the Canon used in mint condition... the reason I ask is because when I was researching the 24-70 s and this category the sigma was showing a lot of softness compared to the Canon. Right now I'm shooting on the Canon EOS R with a couple prime lenses can the 24 to 105 F4.. I would love to be able to get the RF lenses but they are just too far out of my budget. I work full-time as a manager and do photography on the side for the time being. I just built my own home studio and have spent quite a bit of money. My goal is to pick up a 24-70 and a 70-200 for around $2,000 for both even if they're used.. on Adorama I can get Mint Condition used lenses in the Canon brand L series or I can get the new Sigma for both lenses for around $2,200 for each set. I'm torn because the Canon Glassell series is great but coming from a Canon 80d and using the sigma art 1835 and the 50 to 100 I really like the Sigma Art stuff.. but when I watch KZbin videos like I said I keep seeing softness in the Sigma lenses for the full frame compared to the Canon. I just wondered what your take is on this. Because I do value your opinion
@DustinAbbottTWI5 жыл бұрын
Working with your numbers, I would probably go with the Canon options. The Canon 24-70 is definitely better, and the 70-200 Sport (while excellent) is bigger and heavier than the Canon version.

First off great video! What are your thoughts on buying a lens for a newer photographer when trying to decide between the Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM vs. Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 sport. My wife plans to use it primarily for video footage of our son playing lacrosse, but plans to use it for photos as well. The price point difference between the two appears to be around $600 to $800. Based on my research the sport has weather sealing and 11 aperture blades vs 9 blades on the EX, along with some other minor differences (lens length and diameter). Wondering if it makes sense to spend the extra money on the sport version as it would be primarily for sports. We plan on pairing it with a Canon EOS R10. Thanks for your input in advance!

I have the Sony A7III, do I wait for Tamron to release the 70-200mm F2.8 version of their 28-75mm or just buy the Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 Sport now? I have the Canon version of the USB dock and the MC-11.
@DustinAbbottTWI5 жыл бұрын
I guess it depends on how important weight is to you. I’ve personally already got a 70-200 (for Canon), so I’m playing wait-and-see myself, as I would like a 70-200 for my Sony cameras.
@seanbond80755 жыл бұрын
Thanks Dustin... a real pity that you cannot remove the tripod collar but good to know that it is more native on the Canon bodies than the Tamron... Still torn by these two. Cheers!

It really is a difficult choice. If weight isn't a problem, go for the Sigma. If it is, consider the Tamron.

I know this is an older video, and no one may be looking. But does anyone know if the Sigma in EF mount can get the 'green H+"/full 12FPS in the mechanical shutter modes on the Canon R5 and R6? I'm considering an upgrade from a 70-200 F4 to a 2.8, and am shopping options.
@DustinAbbottTWI3 жыл бұрын
I don't know the answer to that myself; I've never tested that combo.
@forzer4562 жыл бұрын
Hey Dustin I’m considering this lens vs the Tamron G2. If image quality is the top priority would you say the sigma edges out the tamron. Also if I consider buying a 2x teleconvert which combo would work best (canon, sigma, or tamron). If u haven’t tested all the tc combos, theoretically would a tc & 70-200 combo be better than the sigma/tamron 150-600 image quality wise? I know focus wise it will take a hit. Also apparently the sigma 150-600 contemporary is better than the sport version and tamron g2 version.
@DustinAbbottTWI2 жыл бұрын
I would say that the Sigma is very slightly better than the G2, yes. I haven't tested many of the 2x TCs (I'm often not a fan), but I would definitely say you would see better focus results with a bare lens (like the 150-600) than using a 2x TC.

Hi Dustin. Thanks for this valueable video. At The moment I'm trying to figure out which Lens is better for me as a Nikon user, because I'm going to buy one. I still haven't found the answer, but your video has opened my eyes for some crucial differencess between those fantastic lenses. I'm not going to use any telephoto converters, also I'm disapointed that removing of tripod mount is impossible regarding Sigma lens. Also I will not be able to use programmed button without USB dock under Nikon system, however now Tamron adds tap-in console to his G2 lenses as a gift so I think, I will buy cheaper Tamron lens.

Fair enough. I think you will really enjoy the lens.

Excuse me Sr. Since Nikon D850 does not have an AA filter like Canon does, would you say the Sigma would provide even better results? And also, would you say this Sigma is sharper than the Canon 70-200 III if used with a Nikon D850?

You probably could achieve a little more sharpness on the D850, yes.

Fantastic review and comparison, thanks so much! Question: in your summary you suggest that the Sigma is a much better choice for Sony bodies - did I hear that correctly? If yes, please explain. Sorry if I misunderstood.
@DustinAbbottTWI5 жыл бұрын
It is the best non-Sony lens to adapt to Sony bodies due to working very well with the MC-11. Other third party 70-200s from Canon or Tamron don't work nearly as well.

Hi Dustin, I have a question. It's a "sport" lens and is it suitable for landscape photographing? We know when doing landscape photographing, we always set the aperture to F8 or smaller, so does image still looks good? thx! ( I thought a lens for sports means good image quality in a large aperture :) )
@DustinAbbottTWI5 жыл бұрын
The term "Sport" has more to do with Sigma's internal divisions. It's a great landscape lens at smaller apertures.

Dustin, you’ve certainly become my (and many others) GOTO SOURCE for lens reviews. Greatly appreciate the depth and work you put into these reviews. I’ve owned a Tamron 70-200 VC since it came out in ‘12 (I believe). Great lens for my high school sports - basketball, football and (nighttime Lacrosse). As I generally shoot at 200mm, focus breathing isn’t an issue at the distances I shoot at. Focus speed on the other hand, is at times. I use a Canon 7D MK II for sports and a 6D for everything else. I have a few global series Sigmas and love them - even my 18-35 1.8 WHEN it wants to focus correctly! 😉 I use a sling and never a monopod on the sidelines as you miss too many shots. I PAY for lugging the weight around - CHIROPRACTOR! As much as I’d love to give a go with the new SIG, the weight scares me. Two questions - how does the focus speed compare with the Tamron G2 and subsequently compared to my VC G1? Lastly, are either aforementioned lenses enough to have me dump my pristine G1 (at a huge loss) on EBay in lieu of either? Thanks Rev!
@DustinAbbottTWI5 жыл бұрын
I would say that G2 is probably the faster in an absolute sense, but by a very, very small margin. It’s focus performance is very close to the speed of Canon

Another superb review - well done! I was, until I saw your series of reviews on the Sigma, seriously considering buying the Nikon 70-200mm f/4. Now, I am almost certainly going to buy the 70-200mm Sigma Sport f/2.8. I only have one slight reservation, weight! Do you consider that the high quality of the lens outweighs any concerns about the weight? Finally, your reviews are so thorough and unbiased that I would never even consider buying a camera or lens without first seeing your review on the product. Alun

Hey Dustin,recently i bought an A7iii with the sigma MC11. Is the MC11 with this lens giving you same results as mounting the 70-200 on a canon camera?I'm afraid of issues to be honest like hunting or misfocus. Something else is that i find the new Sigma 24-70 2.8 ART cheaper on canon mount than Sony mount so i was considering buying both Canon mount if the adapter works well because i'm using also cinema camera that has EF mount. any idea?
@DustinAbbottTWI4 жыл бұрын
If you continue to use both systems, it isn't a bad idea to invest in the EF version of lenses. Focus isn't quite native in some situations, but is typically very, very good.

Great review but I have noticed on third party lenses that they don't have or at least I don't think they have image stabilisation in a panning mode like the Nikon VR lenses. Most third party lenses try to correct your deliberate panning in motorsport for example and the Nikon VR lenses have a panning mode. Would be nice if you could include this info in your content. Great channel by the way and have just subscribed.
