To my ear he never really deals with the turnaround in a convincing way and the first few choruses feel a little "meandery". I can't tell if Herbie lays out more during the beginning because he also feels that way or if its something else. He plays a lot of gestures that you would expect Herbie to complement and respond too, but there seems to be a disconnect for a while compared to the way that Herbie plays with other saxophonists, especially during that time (Wayne, Brecker, JoHen, etc.)

Using the Giant Steps change starting on bar 15 and ending on bar 2, that's pretty damn clever.

Did they extend the form?

@@harrisonmccomb1511 But the form is 16 bars instead of 32 isnt it?\
@harrisonmccomb15112 жыл бұрын
@@Zacharysandilands two sets of 16 yes (that's playing the full form once, so 32 bars). Herbie plays this for the turnaround on the last 4 bars of the form (Cmaj Eb7 Abmaj B7 Emaj G7 Cmaj Bsus7 Bbsus7) Play each chord with him (they are all 2 beats long except for the last Bbsus7 (which is where it's supposed to be in the form). Its Wild that he plays Emaj on the top but its not really Emaj/C because the bass goes with him. But technically that's the top of the form. Hope this helps!

Man I had to look that up because I never say the Greatest of all Time. The 1st definition I got was The Goat is the player who causes a baseball team to loose in the Last Inning. Anyway Herbie is great.
