The full video premieres tomorrow at 8:30am Melbourne.
-----------------------------------------------
👋Welcome to Autism From The Inside!!!
If you're autistic or think you or someone you love might be on the autism spectrum, this channel is for you!
I'm Paul Micallef, and I discovered my own autism at age 30.
Yes, I know, I don't look autistic. That's exactly why I started this channel in the first place because if I didn't show you, you would never know.
Autism affects many (if not all!) aspects of our lives, so on this channel, I want to show you what Autism looks like in real people and give you some insight into what's happening for us on the inside. We'll break down myths and misconceptions, discuss how to embrace autism and live well, and share what it's like to be an autistic person.
Join me as I share what I've found along my journey, so you don't have to learn it the hard way.
Make sure to subscribe so you won’t miss my new video every Friday and some bonus content thrown in mid-week too.

totally agree I only ever knew I was different until aged 40 when I finally found out and was diagnosed it changed my life for the better as I finally let go of trying to do things I am simply not wired to do! turned out it was NOT depression alone it was a lifetime of NOT understanding why I could never connect

Completely agree with the sentiment of having the diagnosis change your life for the better. I completely relate to that.

At 36, I’m halfway through assessment currently, but it took recent bouts of desperation (which I’m sure is burnout) to realise how much a diagnosis could explain to me that it’s ok to be how I am and exploring ways to manage it. I’m a month away from finding out, so in limbo at the moment, which is nerve wracking in itself.

What’s a “spiky skill set”? Archery? Javelin? Knife throwing? Or needle craft; knitting or sewing? 🤔
@Disinterested1

“spiky” skill set. This refers to the observation that unrelated skills are unrelated, so struggles or strengths in one area do not necessarily imply anything about ability in another area a quick google who knew! :)

Spiky skill set means one may be good at singing, but can’t play an instrument due to lack of physical coordination. Or, one can do geometry but not algebra. Or one can be good tapping out poetry in an online blog, but could never master basic penmanship.

If you could slow down a bit when giving the seven signs that would be helpful, I can’t process or take in these at your fast pace. Thanks so much for the information that being said 👍🙂🤭

You can always change the playback speed of a video. I usually crank the speed up to 1,5x myself in normal length videos, but you could also slow it down to 0,75 or lower. In normal length videos I also usually turn on CC (subtitles / closed captions)

@@zaynebt5272 I checked this after I wrote the reply. Sadly the option isn’t available for shorts, indeed :( In this case with this KZbin channel the shorts are usually a ‘preview’ for upcoming long-format videos.. so if the short is fast but sounds interesting you can wait a bit for the longer video and then use the alternative playback speed.

feel the issue is allistic ppl who aren’t disabled can’t understand why you would be disabling yourself victimizing yourself they don’t see disabled ppl as a complete person it’s a similar social construct like race THEIR karma says no bueno nothing we can do really but try and get used to the idea that they may actually never perceive us as people it’s balls #2Spirit #autism

I've gotten to a point where it just makes more sense to me to not be considered as a person, since the way people define "being human / a person" doesn't fit my way of being conscious, alive So yes I think you're right. I don't think our existences will truly be respected, at least I doubt I'll still be alive to see this.

Every now and again when I find myself out in nature, I am reminded that I am just a human being trying to survive like every other animal. Nature is unpredictable yet still logical, cold yet filled with the unbridled emotions of living. And then I come back down to the pits that is society, a never ending game of charades. Forever chasing dreams and their own tails. And understand that hell really is other people. Because I'm not broken or disabled until others deem me so. For all my intelligence a dunce, for all my abilities useless. It takes the person and twists them, more than one person is capable. For what end? To have someone "lesser" to make yourself feel less inferior? Or something more debased that I cannot fathom? It only leads to questions logic cannot answer. We are just people, even if we aren't judged fairly as such. Life isn't fair, WE choose fairness to create it. And that is what makes it so important, and why we learn with one hand and advocate with another. Because I will always have more in common with a high needs nonverbal autistic person than any allistic.

I’m convinced that 2 I had known in the past were undiagnosed Autistics! One insisted on driving and reading at the same time with the inside lights on when it was dark outside, didn’t like the way car headlights were placed, wouldn’t respond to his name and kept repeating himself ad nauseum! I found him very irritating, but in hindsight I’m thinking he may have been an undiagnosed Autistic (Some kid had to explain to him what Asperger’s was- he had never heard of the term!)! The other one had a long history of depression, couldn’t hold a job despite having a Masters degree in Chemical Engineering, and was obsessed with spiritual/religious matters- even constantly writing letters to various monasteries until they told him not to write anymore! When I suggested to him that he might be an Autistic, he never spoke to me again! I myself am an Autistic- officially diagnosed as a kid, but wasn’t told about it! I didn’t find out until about 5 years ago (I’m 60 BTW)when my sister and I found some old medical records that were needed for some legal business. While it finally explain why I am the way I am, I find no relief in it- instead it’s made me feel ashamed of what I am!

I am sorry. We all have shame as a result of living in a fallen world, with fallen bodies. This may be no comfort, but there is a future that cannot be taken from you and that is our destiny. Trust in the Lord Jesus, though it may be that we have to endure our lives in suffering...ultimately, all will be restored in Him. Grace and Peace to you, the Lord is familiar with all our trials and closer than any brother.
@jeannehall6546

@@bluevireo425 Maybe. But nobody can know the Lord. One can’t have a relationship with a noncorporeal being. While I do believe in God as Creator (everything has to have a beginning or source), I don’t believe in having a relationship with Him or even knowing Him like one would another person.
@bluevireo425
@bluevireo425 Ай бұрын
@@jeannehall6546 I understand. Just some thought, The Word of God (Jesus) took on flesh...so, he is familiar with our struggles. If you ever get a Bible, read the book of John in the KJV. The Creator is seen in the person of Jesus...the Bible says for all the fulness of the Godhead dwells in him. Anyway, you are not alone, the Lord bore all our sin and shame on the Cross...when we understand this, we have peace with God. Obviously, I'm a Bible believer...so of course this is my perspective. Grace and Peace to you.

@@bluevireo425 lt doesn’t help me at all! I already know about the Bible- and that Jesus died that we might believe. But Jesus took on a human nature some 2,000 years ago and was that way for 33 years. He’s noncorporeal now. Therefore I and no one else can have a relationship with Him like they could 2,000 years ago! If I was going to try to attempt to make a conversation with God, He would have to converse with me the way one would with another person- one says something, the other responds immediately. God doesn’t do that! And even if He did, what would He say to me? “Shaddap, Shuttenup! I’m tired of you complaining all the time! I’m sad your life turned out the way it did!” And then just turn and walk away? That’s how I picture it! At present I just pray and hope He listens, but that’s all I can do.

When I feel like I'm getting deaf and blind (both at the same time or just one of it) would this mean I get a shutdown? For context: Being outisde with maybe 9 people, me speaks with one person the other person with each other (multiple groups) and I start to struggle to hear the person I'm talking too. The others are too loud but even I can't hear them.

@@Teyrah I'm autistic, I literally have it. And it's actually common knowledge in the medical field, perhaps not much outside of it or the autistic community. It's different for everyone, I cannot understand talking when there is too much going on around me. It makes my brain either hyper focus on ONE thing, or generally to EVERYTHING around me (and make it hard to hear just one person).
