This study was also referenced in Special Strength training - Verkoshansky. (Pg74-75) There was a 5th group. A mixed which used a equal combination had highest increase in max strength. Also I think to be clear they talked about “movement rate” in terms of average rate of speed m/s during the entirety of the movement. I don’t think we can assume it’s just the yielding portion of the exercise it can also include the overcoming portion as well…

Energetic expenditure is critical when comparing "work" to "recovery" (less work in training more left over for recovery)!

I wish we could replicate this again. 20% is a huge jump for only a half second difference.

Yeah it would be very interesting, lots of velocity work these days but need a greater caliber of athletes similar to those in the soviet study

Speed trains muscule fiber requirement however slow teaches you to brace and let’s you focus on teqnicue so you probably should do both for most people

Is hard to believe that incrising your tempo by just 0.5s (from 2s to 2.5s) would improve your gains that much but then if you increase again by just 0.5s (from 2.5s to 3s) there's no improvement anymore.

32 subjects divided in 4 groups, this study is basically useless. Huge amount of individual variation in squat strength development...
