Sikkim Set for Its First Railway Connectivity Extending to China Border

In an infrastructural push by the Indian government, the northeastern state of Sikkim is all set to get its first railway line. Highlighted in our show 'Five Live', the Sivak-Rangpho rail project is crucial for enhanced defence security at the Sikkim-China border. Developing all the way to Nathula, a strategic border point, this rail network will facilitate easy movement of troops and materials. Despite weather-related delays, launch is expected in 2025. Why was Sikkim being ignored by previous Govts? Since 1975 Sikkim is part of India & it gets 1st Railways only this year ? It got its first Airport also just 3-4 years back .

Mobility in the difficult terrain in Sikkim State make life strenuous and arduous. Changing geo-political situation near LAC makes the government to engage in constructing connectivity infrastructure in order to make mobility easier both for civilian and defence service people,thanks to China. There is no reason to credit politicians.
