As an old time fan it sounds funny to me people complaining about the combat. Silent hill has never been about that. And in most cases the smart move is not to fight
@BehindTheVoicePod5 ай бұрын
I agree! This game has never been about combat but it still need to feel right. This feels like that umph factor is missing that could really help sell the combat
@ThePitaaya5 ай бұрын
Honestly I think the combat looks fine. None of the other Silent Hill games had good combat and combat isn't one of the most important aspects of those games imo, it's the atmosphere, story, music, etc. I'm know there's a lot of people who are upser about the combat but it was never stellar in any of the games in the series, this game looks better than any full game the series has gotten in fucking forever. Anyways I'm incredibly excited as the OG SH2 is my favorite game of all time :)
@BehindTheVoicePod4 ай бұрын
You are right! SH games have never been great at combat but I believe if one is remaking it, its allowing more people to play it. That includes people who couldn't play the original or never knew about the original. So going with that, if someone wants to play it, it means that they know the survival horror genre. So they might know about other games like RE. While this game and RE are 2 very different games, the clumsy combat might turn them away from the game. While the OG fans might be good with that, the new players might not be. So they have to maintain that balance. Most part, this game looks and feels right, just the combat can be a bit better to have the impact of those shots be more believable

@@BehindTheVoicePod Oh I definitely understand that, I just hope the combat feels nice when actually playing. We shall see but I'm very excited! I really do hope this brings the Silent Hill series to a bigger audience!

Yaa me too because its an amazing franchise but you know people. There are some who don't like Bloober, there are some who don't like anything about SH2 Remake. So I fear that those people will bring this game down and some might not even try because of it
@ThePitaaya4 ай бұрын
@@BehindTheVoicePod 1000% agree. It's so unfortunate nowadays because I feel like people will just never be happy. If it was a 1/1 remake people would complain it's not different enough and if they change stuff people will complain that they changed stuff. But anyways love the content man, keep up the great work!!

Well said, man. I feel like the combat criticisms are a bit of an over reaction. Last of us part 2 and resident evil 2 remake are obvious examples of great combat, but i dont try to have high expectations for every big game out there. From what i see from the trailer, i care more about the atmosphere, acting, and faithfulness to the original games in terms of writing. In that case, it looks to be promising. As far as combat, i dont really care. I grew up in the old days where animations are so jagged and outdated

Well Alan Wake is a very different game than this at the same time. ALan Wake 2 for instance doesn't focus much on combat but this game has that focus apart from storytelling

The problem is that it looks and feels more like a fan project than a game published by Konami.

I think the game does have its quality like everything else in the game looks really high quality, for me its just the combat that doesn't feel right
@daveknightgael1209Ай бұрын
What other games has konami published in recent years that looked better than this? Genuine question
@SilverGeFerАй бұрын
@@daveknightgael1209 The Metal Gear Solid 3 remake looks great tbh. Can’t say the same for Silent Hill 2 Remake though. Like I said, it looks very much like if you stumbled upon an Unreal Engine 5 fan project on KZbin. It looks great but not quite the standard I would hold an official remake of one of the most influential horror games of all time to look like. Biggest issue is the animations look very janky. When I saw 1:04 , it gave me a huge “Oof…” feeling seeing James jitter around like that as if he’s dancing.

I am so cautious about this remake. Like, neutral, zero expectations and not hyped. I want it to be good but so much stands against that happening even if they have the original composer. I do not think the developers completely understand some concepts or it translates as such from the trailers. I think the combat still looks clunky and strange. I think it could work but there's something (unknown to me tbh) that doesn't work. Maybe it feels better to play than watch but it seems less scary for James to be beating these things to death like that. After bludgeoning them to death do you need the stomp? I could be wrong but my understanding was the stomp was "make sure that fucking thing is dead" but after wailing on it with worse impact than a stomp does he need to do that? And the distance with guns adds tension (I know the original also had like a bat or something but not core gameplay) but this game is definitely going to encourage beat downs based on this presentation or maybe I'll just wait and see lol Maria's redesign is insanely tone deaf to what she represents. I don't think change or redesigning is bad but it needs thought. Her new design is such a knee jerk reaction to change from her original design when she's supposed to come off like that. Opening seductive visually and personality wise. I saw an artist on twitter redesign her by combining both the old and new look and it was so much better. Updated and new but still representing the purpose. People are complaining about Angela but she's fine to me, idk. And people complaining about the graphics looking ps3 are insane. The graphics aren't perfect but it looks good in a lot of places. My only gripe is how they changed Maria's clothes without real thought of what to replace it with. I think they showed WAY too much of Angela's story too. Like the reveal of that monster, maybe not show that in a presentation. I know this game is old af but damn lol No sign of Eddy either which seems kind of strange given the other characters have been revealed. I do not have nostalgia goggles of SH2 given I played it in recent years but even lacking that this remake seems kind of strange in a wary way. Guess we just gotta see if it can hold up in October... To add, I wish there could be level headed discussions about this remake, bunch of anti-woke idiots hop onto actual criticisms to feed their toxic rhetoric. It's TLoU2 all over again.
@BehindTheVoicePod4 ай бұрын
I do understand your concerns for this game. Yes the combat is clunky for sure but the thing about using a melee object and stomping are just extra things that are added in the game. You don't need to do that. Sure it does encourage people to do the same but you don't need to do it. Again this goes to catering to the modern audience as well as the ones who played the original. So it has to be a bit balanced on that end. Its similar to how in RE4 Remake, you can crouch and do silent takedowns. That wasn't really a thing in the original. The redesigns I think can be objective but I understand what you mean by that. As for people complaining about graphics or "woke" , it never makes sense. Also I have seen someone "redeign" for the sake of making her cheeks look thing with a thin jaw line, that to me made no sense. As for as showing way too much, I don't think so they did. Sure they showed more of her, but if anyone has not played the game, they have no idea what's going on.

It's no AW 2, that's for sure in terms of animation and gameplay. The environments look great, but something is missing with the action. The hits delivered just do not seem to be as effective, like clumsy.
@BehindTheVoicePod4 ай бұрын
I don't think this game needs to be AW2. I think that's a wrong comparison to make. Any comparison one should make is with the original game on how the story is, what improvements are done that feels right. As for combat, the original also wasn't that great. So here, while its clumsy, it doesn't need to be as strong as something like AW2. With that being siad, there needs to be some improvements to make the combat manouvers feel like they have more impact
@Shiva-055 ай бұрын
I never played the Og SH2 but considering your point it does feel the combat is not so good comparing with the modern remakes like RE2 but huh what to say i will try it atleast our modders community will definitely improve it 😅
@BehindTheVoicePod5 ай бұрын
Yaa for sure they could. I don't know how much they can improve but modders have done a lot in other games. And ya based on recent remakes like Resident Evil, there is more impact to the combat. I feel like some of the basic movements that sells an effect is not there

Yaa $70 does seem like a lot for this game. I don't think that the quality of this game is worse than a game that came out on PS4. I agree, the original didn't have a good combat. However this is a remake, it will also bring new people to the game. I don't think that many would like the combat that doesn't feel it has an impact or is floaty. I don't want this game to have high action packed combat like Resident Evil. I also like the combat but it doesn't have that impact that this combat needs to have. That's what I talked about. There are certain moments where it does feel like the impact is perfect but when you are shooting or you are using the weapon, it doesn't feel like that.
