Fun Fact: Blue and white lighting on submarines were used to regulate sleep patterns as blue light didn't interfere with those sleeping like a white light would. Red lighting was still used for night vision.

Well, with the early Mk.14s you actually do need to hit off 90 to detonate. The navy found that 45 degrees was the optimum impact angle for usage of the early Mk.14 detonators. Just and FYI for when you get to a fleet boat.

Just an idea but you might wanna use this for your next patrol. A mod I made to mix up the skins of the tankers, freighters and transports. Did it about 4 years ago when I was seriously into SH4. On Subsim I went by the name max-peck. Anyway just a suggestion ;-)
By the way - I cannot find any documentation to prove my point, but I am pretty sure at 33mins in you are suffering from battery drain.At full battery you can get 9 knots submerged, but at 50% battery power you lose a couple of knots. If anyone here knows better please correct me :-)
@devinhorner23584 жыл бұрын
@@DavidKing-ph8or hell yeah that would be great! Would you happen to have a link to that? Also I find modding this game is sometimes tricky. I know that real subs suffered from battery drain speed loss but I hadn't noticed if the game models it. That would be super cool if it did
@DavidKing-ph8or4 жыл бұрын
I am pretty sure it does - I remember doing high speed runs and watching my speed drop from 9kt to 6kt as my battery drains. This is the merchant skin mod I made. www.subsim.com/radioroom//downloads.php?do=file&id=4956

You know I watch this episode A couple of times. And after reading a couple of books on the convoys in the Atlantic. I have a theory on this but the first question I have to ask myself is is something that they put into the mod? Or was it something in the base game because this would be exactly what a convoying area would do if they got in contact they would break contact try to move away reposition himself to go in another run. In real life there's no way that a convoy wouldn't have taken the opportunity to reposition themselves before taking another run at it. They'd have wanted to try and lose you and make sure they lost you first it sounds like to me dumb luck on the games part it went a random direction or a couple random directions and just happened to run smack dab into you again. Because cowboys do that sometimes they go back and forth on course and they may have simply bumped back into you because they're repositioning.
@devinhorner23583 жыл бұрын
Sometimes the convoy commanders would make odd decisions and turn right back toward the attack boat. Often this was because they believed they were under attack by multiple subs, even when there was only one. In the confusion they might think that staying on the planned zig-zag might be safer, or its just bad luck that they turn towards the sub because they don't know where it fired from.

How do you get the AOB so quickly? I just started playin this. That's what seems to be giving me the most trouble, I watched a little how to, but still very hard to understand. One tutorial said "easy" and it was filled with math formulas. I know it's a sim, which I love, just want to know maybe if there is an easier way to calculate it in game.
@devinhorner23582 жыл бұрын
Honestly I'm eyeballing it because I've done it for long enough I have a sense of where the ship is pointing. The recognition manual gives you the views for 90 and 45 degrees, so based on that I look at where the ship is and that narrows down it course to a range of less than 45 degrees. Sometimes I'll set AOB at 45 and wait for the ship to sail into the angle. Otherwise I give it a good guess, then back it up by doing the calculations after. EDIT: Oh, I also rely a lot on the navigator. Keep taking range calculations to give him a lot of data and he usually gives you pretty good course and speed. That's his job, let HIM do the math. Like I say, a captain's job isn't to turn every knob on the boat.
@shibiwowsawesomegaming47832 жыл бұрын
@@devinhorner2358 So lets say for example, lets say im heading 010 and the ship is heading 090, a good AOB would be about 35 degree's ish?
@devinhorner23582 жыл бұрын
@@shibiwowsawesomegaming4783 yes that sounds about right. The main thing is using angle to determine the enemy ship's course, though, so if you have already figured out the course, enter that in the torpedo computer

@devinhorner23584 жыл бұрын
My main goal is always storytelling, so really it would depend on the situation. If I die because of an unrealistic circumstance or me doing something half-assed because its a video game, you probably won't ever see it. But if its a heroic death and is emotionally engaging, then it'll be time to invent a new captain and pick up where the old one left off. I want to reach the end of the war, but I don't really know how we'll get there.

Heheh you're in a alternate dimension where the s-38 totally ninja-ed all the IJN ships. Those ocean liners you sank didn't make it to the invasion, so in that reality it was much more harder for the Japanese to conquest the Philipines, less resources to gank the Chinese, and Vietnamese.. You saved lots of lives. The Japanese still won, but it was much much harder to do so. Then Ho and Kim, and Mao, and, Sukarno, Chang had easier time.
