Lisa, thank you. Not only are you a genius makeup artist, you are a makeup historian. I appreciate the way you tie historic makeup artistry to the wider history of the time period you are portraying. It’s fascinating.

I did a Theda look a few years back. I really committed to the bit, went in full greyscale, I printed dialogue cards and refused to speak and mimed everything else! Love this, you look a bit like Siouxsie too!!

I’m really enjoying these historical videos, especially this one. 15 years ago I read a book written by someone in my city (in Wisconsin, USS) about its history, and it mentioned Theda Bara (her stage name). As a young girl she and her family vacationed at a lake resort just a few miles from my home, and she’d stand at a window and wave at boys. I guess that she was destined to become an actress!

You captured it! Both the look at what was special about her. The fact that she wasn’t traditionally beautiful but she captivated people across the world and lives on as an inspiration and influence over 100 years later. It’s a shame so much of her work is lost!

It reminds me just a little of the 90s grunge look. You wanted to walk out of your house looking like you'd slept in your makeup. Dark, uneven, smudgy, thin brow. While it's different, I love that imperfect vibe

I'm old enough to remember going to see black and white films (which we called 'going to the pictures') and was an avid reader of a filmgoers' magazine. We were informed that makeup was always done in black, including the lipstick. We were all so happy when colour films came out! Your amazing vamp costume makeup is absolutely stunning and really spot on - the best ever.
