Where to begin..... I have been following several yachting channels for a few years now and have only found three that are worth watching, yours being one of them. If I were ever to buy or sell a yacht, I would only deal with one of the three of you. Your videos are always thorough and concise and allows people to see the yacht from the perspective of walking through the yacht as we would have seen it if we were there. Other channels will cram a bunch of shots together and your view jumps around and you never can tell where you are or even which direction you're facing. They will try to quickly show you a couple of features in a 2 - 5 minute video then have the nerve to ask several million dollars for it, almost seems like they're trying to hide something, and I don't deal with shady characters. I appreciate all the hard work you put in to your presentations, and that's what sells yachts. Some of the comments you receive are quite entertaining, thank you for sharing them, it's amazing how people with such low IQ's are capable of operating a computer and figuring out how to leave such blindingly ignorant comments to begin with. Keep up the good work👍, I look forward to your next video. By the way, Aluminium was discovered by a Danish physicist and first put into production by a French chemist, the pronunciation is of European origin and is correct as Aluminium, North America and Canada are the only countries that drop the second "i" and pronounce it Aluminum. Both versions are acceptable so there is no wrong way to say it. May the waters you sail be forever peaceful.

I am a big believer in the future of solar and hybrid catamarans. The catamaran platform with its light weight and large surface area is the perfect pairing for solar. As such Ive been watching the Silent 80 closely since March of 2019 when it was announced that 4 had been sold with the first customer Neil Murray expecting to take delivery in early 2020. He and the other 3 initial customers must be a little eager by now to hit the water. Since 2020 Ive been seeing more press and marketing of more 80 sales, larger models, Silent resorts, Silent Tenders, partnerships, smaller and older models being sold and coming off the production line. Lots of Buzz but what I haven't seen... a single 80 in the water. I remember you were showing us hulls in the yard almost 3 years ago now. COVID is a definite factor but I also remember the founder of Silent Yatchs saying that Covid wouldn't substantially slow delivery. I hope this isnt another Prout Catamarans in the making. I really want to see the 80 succeed. Any word David on when an 80 will undergo sea trials?

VIDEO SUGGESTION: David, would you please do a video about the different sizes of yachts and what their best use case is? In other words, the size of yacht one buys is not solely determined by budget. Otherwise every billionaire would have a 400 footer. But even people with unlimited budgets buy smaller yachts. Why is that? I would love to see you run through the range of common yacht sizes and explain a little bit about how they are typically used. For example a 24 m yacht has these benefits, a 37 m yacht steps up with these added features but loses some flexibility due to draft and the space required when in a marina, and then 60 m yachts, 80 m yachts and gigayachts. Many of your viewers I’m sure are new to yachting, and would love to get a lay of the land as far as what size yacht is best for what purpose. At each size level you could showcase some of your favorite yachts and yacht makers. You could also cover different types of yachts like trawlers, catamarans, explorer yachts, planing yachts, etc. It could be a very visual video that would get many views for many years.

The Silent Yacht and Vision collaboration has a lot of potential. Silent Yacht has the technical idea and expertise with regards to an efficient hull, solar powered system, and functionality. Only the luxury market can justify the premium due to the costs of the very expensive lithium-ion batteries, in an already luxury market. While the functional design is excellent and can not be faulted in any way, the materials and aesthetics is marginal in their price range. However, Vision has the aesthetics design expertise already and would probably like to break into the solar electric market without the massive research and development costs (and valuable time) required to do so on their own.

The single biggest factor bringing the tough questions to the electric technology is the "theoretical" factor. They really would do themselves a favor by floating a couple permanent demonstration boats and and providing video after video of their yachts proving themselves in all sorts of conditions. Bring on a series of test captains and maritime journalists - not just for a walk through and a sea trial - genuine long distance cruises in all weather conditions. People really want to have confidence in a product like this when the sea gets cross and there is solid cloud cover for a week.

Vision F 82 looks very interesting. Not sure why the size of the interior and fly bridge had to be smaller than the rest of the Silent line. Perhaps they just took Vision's layout and went with it? The Silent 100 sounds interesting, the 80 is very nice but I do have my doubts about them being suited for real Explorer yacht stuff, especially when their interior and external areas seem to be better suited for slowly cruising the Med or Bahamas. Saying a yacht like the Silent 80 is trans-oceanic doesn't cut it for me just because a Silent 60 trundled across the Atlantic in good weather. My stamping ground is the Pacific and that is big whether you are crossing it, trundling up to Alaska or venturing down into the Southern Ocean to take a look at Antarctica. My biggest concern would be in not having the speed to dodge bad weather or what happens when a hurricane or cyclone does get hold of you with nowhere to run for shelter. I really don't like big waves, at least a high bow helps so a bigger, self-righting Arksen mono-hull seems a better idea.

I am very curious about your answer, if you could choose a catamaran of 80 feet, what would you go for? silant yacht or sunreef, or maybe some other. thanks in advance for your answer. to clarify, i would like to buy a catamaran and and i want to travel the world and live on it full time. and maybe you can also answer the question if you are above 80 feet are there other rules, do you have to take mandatory staff etc
@kokomo9764
@kokomo9764 2 жыл бұрын
There are class rules, as well as Insurance rules, for various size yachts. While you can captain your own boat up to around 80ft, but, unless you are a very experienced yacht captain, 80 ft would be the outside limit. You would still be required to be licensed. Crew size is also usually set by the insurance provider and class requirements. Trying to operate a yacht understaffed can be very dangerous. My personal choice is Sunreef. Personally, I prefer diesel or, at the most, a hybrid system. I would not buy a 100% solar boat. I like the feel of huge diesel engines running at full tilt to get out of the path of a massive thunderstorm or hurricane. Let's see someone do that on a solar boat at 8-10knts! My dream yacht would be a 40m Sunreef.

My analysis of Silent yachts after being in investment banking and following their company for 3 years. They keep releasing new models and concepts while pre selling them, for deposits. They have only produced one of the Silent 60's (as far as I know) which was what they were touting as their big launch model after proof of concept of the 55 model. To me from the outside it looks like they simply cannot figure out manufacturing and are excellent at developing the technology. They likely do not have the infrastructure to keep building hull shapes and testing over and over what is the best shape of hull to maximize battery life. Like all solar boating companies out there, the drag is the biggest issue. Testing this on a 20 foot boat is a lot easier than a 60 foot cat. Finally, partnering with Vision may solve this issue, although I wish they were working with a bigger brand with more resources. I do hope Silent figures it out and becomes successful in the industry. This is my own opinion.
@markusschellenberg4684
@markusschellenberg4684 Жыл бұрын
There is a sweet spot for the size of solar powered catamarans. The relationship between total pannel surface, leading to maximum power production and overall weight, leading to power consumption of the motors. Additionally, if the boat is too small, the battery weight will impact heavily the total mass of the yacht. At a cruising speed of around 7 knots, the optimisation will lead to a length of 55 to 65 feet and a weight of 25 to 30 tons. Thus consuming around 8 kW when running at cruising speed. This, compared to a maximum production of 16 kW and an average production in sunny weather of 150 kWh/day, will make it possible to run at cruising speed almost 24/7. The silent 80 with max production of 26kW and a weight double that of the 60 will see the 24/7 cruising speed without diesel help drop to less than 6 knots. For the silent 120 this looks even worse, so this yacht should be considered hybrid. Additionally, the kite will have a higher impact on a lighter boat, again an advantage for the 60 feeter, adding one to two knots to its cruising speed.

Porsche Design also did the Royal Falcon One if I'm not mistaken. I also erroneously pointed out that Porsche (and you did leave them out) had their own yacht. I too thought Porsche had a hand in it. But you mentioned Aston-Martin and I only found their powerboat, not what I consider a yacht. But another car company you missed was Mercedes AMG. The AMG side has a yacht too.The aptly named Silver Arrrow 460GT, which is an actual yacht and is more akin to a dayboat or weekend boat. It is something you should cover. It has many cool innovative features and is neat looking. Bentley was another car maker you missed and they also teamed up with Dynamiq to furnish the interior of the 108 expedition yacht that at 10 knots has 4000 miles of range, the Global 330. That yacht was announced in 2019 so I don't know if it has come out yet. And you missed Maserati as well which I believe has a few boats like a 47' power catamaran and a racing multihull 70'. I think you o u and Nick should team up to do a video about cars and yachting since they do sort of go together. Land Rover has the yachting Edition Defender and Rolls-Royce made 'Yachting Edition' packs for the Cullinan and of course their limited edition Boat Tail, had its own aft deck. Brabus who customizes AMG's teamed up with Axopar. And Madame Gu got her unique hull color because the owner saw a Porsche 'Miami Blue' GT3 RS and loved the color so much.

David there have been a fair few hostile comments on recent Silent yatch reviews.. ive noticed the same very similar comments cropping up under different identities.🤔🙄. Im not a 100%sure what their purpose is but.. they center on styling which may or may not be valid and the ability and seaworthiness based on the electric motors and generator set up.. They really dont seem to understand the advantage of size, power, simplicity and reliability of electric motor as the primary propulsion source and the advantage of using the diesel as a generator rather than a very inefficient servicing intensive driving motor. Two other points you might want to enquire about have they considered using natural Basalt fiber which is greener cheaper and has a lower carbon footprint than GRP. It is also superior to GRP being lighter and stronger and more ballistically resistant than GRP it should also be cheaper.. its also Chemically resistant and electrically inert compared to Carbon fiber nor does it brittle shatter like carbon can. 🤔 There are other greener materials also being developed as well. The other is the arrival of new battery types like BYD's blade cells and chemistries ..in particular CATL release of Na based cells that not only should cost 30% less to produce than Li Fe polymer cells and seem to have a number of distinct safety and performance advantages that should suit them to marine application. Any more information and development/ demonstration of the kite assist system.

Most of them are charters -- for people that want a waterfront condo. Other than that their target market are people looking for a floating RV. (its not going to do more than harbor-hop most of the time) Its blue water enough to travel between major islands/ports. Its not going far from whichever of the Carribean or Mediterranean a specific boat is based at. (and not going between them much) There are a lot of folks who own power boats that way and rarely run very far because of the cost. There is actually a huge market for that sort of boat that doesn't need fuel and doesn't need shore power or a slip.

Then you can look that hurricane straight in the 'eye', spit at it (watch out, it's gonna come flying back at you) and say 'Screw You, I'm in a Bering bahy-bee!' Actually none of that is a good idea and the best course of action is to move the yacht as far away as possible, get you and your family on a private jet to someplace else and just know that chances are your yacht is ok because Berings are built to tackle anything.

@@randychase305 Not completely accurate - but discussing ocean crossings does sort of miss the point. They did so under generator power using as much, if not more, diesel as a very efficient power yacht. I believe they were less efficient than a Bering Trawler Yacht. So no they have not crossed under battery power. The hull is perfectly able to do it. They are absolutely optimized for cruising the Caribbean or Mediterranean. That is their business case, charter yachts that reduce fuel costs vastly. I don't think you'd want one off the coast of Maine USA or Scotland or British Columbia CA. You could easily argue that there are more Yachts of the Coast of just Ibiza than all of Maine - so Silent has a good market. I do like the Vision F concepts but what really turned me off was a walk through one of the owners did with Nautistyles. Not on,y did he come off as very boastful and wanting to brag about everything they had on the 80 at the time, he was somewhat misogynistic in his approach with Victoria. Cutting her off and dismissal of her knowledge about yachting in general, but also the people she knew in the industry. He also didn't speak English very well. Which I get may seem as a personal problem, however if you are going to present a yacht to an English speaking audience, then perhaps get someone else to present the yacht who speaks English more fluently and isn't having to say 'ummm ummm ummm' every 2 words. It gets tiring and especially so when he is doing it to just brag about some 'famous artist', made the vase that your flowers sit in and another famous designer designed the salt and pepper shakers as well as cutting Victoria off just so he could stammer over the words she was going to say.

Shameful! Using sex to sell yachts and submarines. I laughed at the image of Randy Whales and big submarines but who am I to criticize someone’s choice of a mate?

I can understand a hot tub on your yacht, but a swimming pool? That's just dumb.

Why 3 big generators ? Now with your boat the pollution doesn’t come from your engines, but from the generators… This isn’t an ego friendly catamaran, its a scam to make people believe it !!!

Cats are very intriguing. I like the hybrid idea as well. I own a hybrid car. It's great. I hope to see more as development come out. Touching on subs....they need a way to really see. What is out there. The ocean goes dark at 200 ft deep .

1:30 Sorry, but this looks _really_ crappy in comparison to SY own 80… But I would not buy a Turkish car either.

We only prefer that you get the pronunciation correct so "aluminum" it is. LOL.

Technically, aluminium is correct, also. The British spell aluminum different from America.

@@grondhero No but sometimes the Dyslexic in me gets an irritating itch about it to scratch. The English language both as a native speaker and in its derived forms is a PITA as its not actually based on one language base. As Churchill said we are two peoples divided by a common language. 😉
