You are so right, if you cowash, stay away from silicones

One of my favorite conditioners is Nexxus Kheraphix. Dimethicone is #3 on the ingredients list, I think (followed by collagen). I'm high porosity and I appreciate some products with silicones; my hair looks lustrous after rinse-out, which tells me hydration is sealed by the cone. I try to use only one silicone-containing product per routine (the conditioner or the leave-in or the styler). I appreciate you and Mo Knows Hair for regularly educating about silicones! xoxoxo

Now I know why my hair responds so well with silicone based products. I’m a high porosity 3c4a hair. And I have definitely noticed how my hair reacts to natural products compared to silicone based products. Really a huge difference. Thanks for clarifying about how the silicone protects and retains moisture in my hair a lot longer in duration compared to the natural products have.

My hair hates silicones so I avoid them. They always give my hair faux moisture and by the next day, my hair is dry. I only use them for their heat protectant properties when I use a flat iron or blow dryer.

I like silicones in my hair products, not in my shampoo but in my conditioners? Yes! I have very long hair, and thick, so lots of it but fine strands and so yes, it tangles easily. Silicones add a lot of slip and help with that tangling and detangling so much. My absolute top conditioner of the moment is the L'Oréal Elvive extraordinary oil (it's called Elsève in Belgium, why they do that with the different names in today's world, beats me). LOL!

The background music is so calming. I've introduced silicones back into my haircare but only in conditioners. My hair is too fine for the leave in ones available here.

Thank you for confirming! This JUST dawned on me and it makes total sense! I was silicon free and cowashing only and my hair absolutely loved it. I started playing around with products and couldn’t figure out what happened. This explains it. 🙌🏽🤦🏽♀️😊

I've long since grown tired of this age-old debate of whether or not silicones are "good" for you. Everything builds up on the hair, even natural waxes or butters. If you clarify with a harsher sulfate once every month at the least, it will be fine, for everything that you use, silicones or not. I disagree a bit on the milder sulfates and the CB being clarifying enough; IMO you actually need a monthly wash with a good SL(E)S but maybe that's just me. Probably. ;)

So question for you ....... if you use a conditioner with a silicone how does your leave in conditioner get in the strand if that barrier is already there??
@ALove4Me5 жыл бұрын
Silicone doesn't immediately stop any nourishment to the strand. Build up happens over time, so all the things that would happen if using a leave-in w/o silicone still happens

I always love her videos as they are very informative. But I also think people should take the time to learn their own hair. Your hair talks to you. If it doesn’t like something, it will let you know. Just because some say silicons are bad doesn’t make it true. But like anything else, if you’re using it incorrectly it can become bad.

Yeah depends on the silicone. volatile silicones in hair products are fine Will evaporate out five minutes to a couple hours but not Cyclic silicones.

This is why I like Achia so much!!♥️🔥 Some influencers act like silicones and sulfates are the devil. Like your hair will fall out.🙄 Parabens and other synthetic chemicals are one thing. Silicones and sulfates are BENEFICIAL for our hair. As long as you don't overdo it and wash your hair, your hair will be just fine. I use both silicones and sulfates. Everyone else notices my hair growing like a weed. CHEERS TO THAT!🥂🥂🥂

Hi!! I’ve recently started a wash and go journey with my hair and I LOVE using grease to seal (1. their heaviness elongates my hair thus combating shrinkage that leads to tangles 2. their EXCELLENT at retaining moisture). But I’ve observed that they also break down a lot of but not all of the gel cast/ hold/ definition in my hair and soften it up. The thing is, I really like that gel cast/ hold/ definition that wash and goes offer bc it helps make my hair last longer without added time (which defeats the point of LOCKING in moisture) and added touching (which increases risk of breakage) after wash day due to the curls being held still in an organized way within the cast. Because of all this I wanted to ask: do you know of any products-silicones, grease, butters or otherwise- that are 1. sealants, 2. heavy (I like elongation), and 3. don’t break down the gel cast of wash and goes? If I had to choose a quality to remove between retaining moisture, retaining cast, and retaining elongation in my hair care regimen, I guess I would choose cast. However I’m still curious as to what cast-retaining options are out there for the way I do my hair because I still really do like the role cast plays in my regimen.
@ALove4Me Жыл бұрын
No, oils/grease will automatically start breaking down the gel so no there isn't a product that won't break down the cast

It seems like a pretty cool formula which features silicones to prevent frizz and and a UV absorber to protect from the sun.
