I have a Bahco but it spends it's time riding under the seat of the truck as a spare. - Silky saws are awesome... I have 3! A Pocketboy 170, a Bigboy 2000 that gets used the most, And the Katanaboy 650... A must for winter travel here in the cold North. I've been checking out your videos both old and new... Interesting channel. - I'm subbed... Thanks for the video...

Oh Dear i think i am going to have to get one of them katana saws, i could see it being pretty useful for silent crown dismantle on the ground maybe 6-8 inch before you would need to start a saw up. cheers for the vid.
@WayPointSurvival3 жыл бұрын
Indeed. They are very helpful and extremely quick even on larger materials. It's especially helpful if you're low on fuel or the power's out.

I have a Corona saw, cheap and works really good. That big saw is awesome, you can do some serious log cabin building with that! Lol

Man that Gerber is LIGHTWEIGHT and sweet design it's always funny looking back at nice gear that's no longer available, I'm considering the 500 or 650 what do you think is a better choice??
@WayPointSurvival2 жыл бұрын
Personally, I like the 500 both for both for length and carry ability as well as price.

@@WayPointSurvival yeah I agree the extra 100$ + for a few more inches doesn't seem justifiable thanks again brotha!!😁✌️💚

Love the silky katana but anyone who says a Bahco Laplander is too heavy is too influenced for me 😆
@WayPointSurvival3 жыл бұрын
I had one and gave it away. It's not the weight, it's a poor saw compared to a Silky. My favorite carry saw was the Gerber sliding saw made in Finland. It too was a pull saw and only weighed 3oz. It would cut circles around a Bahco laplander. Every Silky I own I purchased with my own money, I owe them nothing. If I say I like the Silky, it's because I have used it and found it better. Influenced? Yes, but influenced by experience. Thank you for watching and commenting!

I feel like I want to mod this onto a walking staff and hunt some zombies...

It's definitely big enough that was a little modification it could be turned into a walking staff for sure.

Video didn't really answer the question asked in the title. Really just ended up being an advertisement for the Katanaboy, which is frankly *NOT* the best bushcraft saw because it's ridiculously huge and heavy while only really being useful in certain very specific situations.
@WayPointSurvival5 жыл бұрын
You're right. I made that video some time ago and I need to re-title it for clarification. I wasn't too clear as you said, but to give you the answer, at the time I felt like the Gerber folding saw was the best for general Bushcrafting. Since they are no longer available, I now prefer the Silky Gomboy 240 with the curved blade.
@WayPointSurvival5 жыл бұрын
I changed the title. Thank you for pointing that out.

Thank you for your response. I'm currently looking at picking up the gomboy, myself.

Katanaboy is not impulse hardened like other Silky saws, so it is fileable. You can recognize impulse hardened saws by the presence of black teeth. Good video though.

By the way, this Silky site says that the blade is impulse hardened www.silkysaws.com/Silky_Saws/Katanaboy/Blade-Only-for-Silkys-Katana-Boy#sthash.dUEjfqfZ.dpbs

@@WayPointSurvival Hmmmm... interesting, because on silky-europe.com site this saw is advertised as fileable, so you can sharpen it instead replacing the blade - "When the teeth are not induction hardened, they can be filed with the special Silky file...". "If deemed necessary, the teeth of the Katanaboy can be sharpened with a Silky file" www.silky-europe.com/folding-saws/pruning-saw-katanaboy-500-5
@WayPointSurvival5 жыл бұрын
Yes, the information available seems to be stating two different things.
@billredding20003 жыл бұрын
@Anonymous True, but they may be special files, meaning probably diamond-coated...as regular files won't AT ALL work on impulse-hardened teeth. In fact (IIRC) the impulse-hardened teeth are 3X the hardness of normal files -- that's a lot! Still, some people say they've used their original impulse-hardened blades for YEARS and it cuts as well as new...so being able to sharpen (file) the teeth is nice, but in everyday reality you'll likely never have to do it. I carry one Sikly saw in my Jeep Gladiator for downed trees across trails: The Gomboy and will soon be receiving a Katanaboy 500. ONE of those two should handle pretty much anything. But I also carry an Estwing 16" Camper's Axe as well...partly in case I encounter pillaging Vikings during my outings as it'd be more effective than using the Katanaboy on them I'm sure. ;-) -- BR

No, but it straps to the outside or you can carry it in it's own sleeve with a strap.
