Silver Airways Saab 340B Flight to Key West

If you've been following my travels for awhile, you'll know I've already uploaded a video on Florida's regional airline Silver Airways, but this was actually my first time on them. Overall, I really like Silver and think their employees are some of the nicest in the industry. Unfortunately, my first impression of this unique airline was a very bad one, all thanks to one said power hungry Karen know-it-all. I have to be honestly, after this flight, I wasn't thinking about flying Silver again...but I kept an open mind, tried them twice more a month later, and got a completely different experience. For the most part, Silver has some pretty cheap fares on routes flown by other larger airlines and I think they can be a great option to fly if you get the chance to do so. Between all of their planes, there isn't any First Class offerings, but I don't think you really need it on these little turboprops. These flights are more for the excellent views of the Caribbean. Hey next time you go from Miami to Fort Lauderdale or West Palm Beach there is a local train that goes right into the intermodal side of the Miami airport that would be the eastern side it’s five dollars from Miami to Fort Lauderdale connecting bus at Fort Lauderdale two minute ride from train station to airport. Keep up the videos I loved hearing your voice overs because I’m so my blind LOL

Saab 340 is a great little plane. Regiona; carrier Pascan in Quebec where I live has one. Great video, too bad about Karen, scenery was great, loved Key West when I visited & had great weather like you. Subscribed and looking for more !

I am a new subscriber and and I'm enjoying your full flight videos. I solo'ed my first airplane, a Piper warrior, at Key West Intl in 1982, and checked out as a SAAB 340 Captain with Connecticut-based Business Express in 1991. 3000 hours left seat Saab time logged. Loved the airplane, especially the newer B models.

I got to fly on a Saab 340 back in 1994. The flight was from Cincinnati to Fort Wayne IN. This was after an 11 hour flight on a Delta L-1011 from Frankfurt Germany (I was flying home to Fort Wayne on a 30 day leave in the Army). I do not remember much about the flight but it was overbooked and the ticket agent in Cincinnati asked if I would mind being bumped until she saw that I was flying in from Frankfurt Germany and no more was said about being bumped. I was just happy to get to Fort Wayne after traveling all day long. I had left Frankfurt in the morning and by the time I got to Fort Wayne it was almost 10 pm! Thanks for posing your travel videos I enjoy them very much. You travel like I did back in the day which is mostly in coach (economy). Hopefully after this COVID thing is over travel can return to what used to be normal.

Great video as always! Of all my times flying to Florida and back, it was only to Daytona Beach or Orlando. I’ve driven to Florida many times. Great trip report! I’ve known about Silver Airways but not flown with them yet. Sorry you had to put up with a Karen! I’ve heard several stories about Karens in almost anything. Such a shame! I appreciate your channel and your videos! I realize this was from last year. Hopefully you haven’t experienced too many Karens since then! Always my personal best for you and your channel! Now there's a blast from the past. Back in 2000, I took a Northwest Airlines Saab 340B from Youngstown, OH to Detroit, en route to Baltimore, and on the return trip from DTW back to YNG (Back when Northwest was still a thing, and there was still commercial service to and from YNG)

I miss flying on the Saab 340. Northwest Airlink used to fly them from DTW to all the small airports in northern Michigan back in the day. After the Delta merger, they eventually switched to CRJs-at least from DTW-CIU.

Years ago I flew on Piedmont airlines ( the original ) from Miami to Key West on their F28-1000, a pocket rocket! I remember on the trip back meeting the founder of Piedmont airlines, Mr Davis on that flight! Needless to say there was a full drink service on that short flight! Also I remember being on the eastern end of the island on the road that borders the airport. An Eastern airlines 727-100 had just taken off and roared over my car at an altitude so low it seemed I could almost touch it! WOW the noise from those three Pratt's as it lept off Key West shot runway!

Thanks for the views. I've flown into Key West a few times during my pilot training and it was epic. The one ride though they had me under the "hood" so I couldn't look out as it was for instrument training, sigh. I know a friend who flew for them and was introduced for another guy who currently flies for them. Being a Floridian it sure would be nice not to be far from home each day if I can get to the airlines in a few years.

Hey Chris... Interesting video. Flew into Key West many moons ago, but it was on an airline that flew twin engine Cessna 401's. At that time, one pax could sit in the co-pilot's seat. Had a great view out the front. One FYI item, in aviation terms (pilots, controllers, etc) the runway you departed on is called - One-Zero-Left, instead of what you called Ten Left. Looking forward to your next video. Just a passing thought - The Karens out there really don't understand the poor picture they paint of the airline they work for (and themselves). They need to leave their personal stuff at home, or take to basic a positive, personal interaction courses/classes.

Nice video! I was stationed in Key West in the Navy, and I have to tell you I'd definitely pay 26.00 for a 44 minute flight, than endure a 6 hour drive from FLL! Just the gas cost would be more!

Unfortunately, there always seem to be one bad apple in the bunch. When I began flying I always felt that the flight attendants help make the entire experience great even though it might have started out bad, except when flying United Airlines. Their flights were either all fantastic or all bad and that takes into account the ticket counter, food and beverage service inflight, F/A's attitudes(especially), and baggage arrival experiences. They had improved somewhat prior to Covid, but in my opinion, had a long way to go still! Thanks.

Ugh Every AvGeek including myself hates FAs like that. I was on a United A319 flight in August from Chicago O’Hare to Boston and a Flight Attendant scolded me for filming as soon as I boarded. But then another FA said something to her and they were okay with me filming for the rest of the flight.

Got to fly an Eagle SAAB IAD-RDU in 1992 and then Colgan LGA-LEB-LGA in 2008. Loved all 3 legs. Have you been on any of Silvers long ATR legs like FLL-CAE or TPA-GSP? Both being north of 2hrs those would be some great reports.

N417XJ...A former Mesaba Airlines 340. I flew on the plane a few times out of MSP I think Silver had a few other Mesaba 340's besides this one.

You should also fly to Hawaii next summer as well and fly Hawaiian and Southwest. Southwest from OAK or SJC to HNL, OGG, or KOA then Hawaiian Boeing 717s Inter Island

I work at a British airport and I must admit it is illegal to film or take pictures on the ramp. The flight attendant could have handled it better but oh well. You can be prosecuted and jailed or fined upwards of $10k or more depending on the airport.
