hello, the camp! today i want to speak to the silver wolves and talk on how we can get back out there camping. as we get older it becomes a fact, we lose agility and mobility. We can make up for it by adapting so some other way of caring the load and not on our backs. Have you thought of using a small wagon or cart to take the gear from your car to the campsite. often a pier cart is used in fishing why not do the same idea for camping. with a cart of some form i can strap the gear to it and let it carry the load. as a big plus i can stop anytime i need to and catch my breath.

In the early 2000's we would go hunting in the national reserve and you couldn't have a motor vehicle. So,I bought a deer cart !!! I still have it and I carry my garbage to the end of the driveway about 1/4 up the road. It has 13" wheels on it. Still use it went hunting. If it tear up, I'm going to get another one. It fits on trails cow have made and will roll in tall grass. Best thing I have bought in year. Ihave had it over 20 years

Another option which has been used to haul gear is a bicycle. You can strap your gear to it and either ride it or roll it alongside you. You can roll big heavy loads on a bicycle alongside you. It was done extensively during wars in the 20th century.

A - Travois - is the word you were looking for. Often used behind a dog, horse, or mule, but a human can do that as well. As a matter of fact, I use a quick and dirty form when I have a huge pile of brush when I need to get it from .A to .B

Ive been pricing gorilla carts/wagons, and fix it up like an old covered wagon from the 1800s. bow some wood or metal on top and cover with canvas/tarp, etc. Canvas /tarp will double as a shelter. Mount a spare tire on the back, keep a tire repair kit in the wagon. Strap a shovel on one side and a pick/ax on the other. mount a water container on the side. then fill the wagon with whatever i want. can take turns pulling, even hook up a large dog, like a sled dog. once at camp, unload wagon and then use wagon to haul firewood, kindling, etc this broken and busted old paratrooper had to do a lot of pack humping in the past, toooo old for that today.

Totally agree with the idea. I built a travois with mountain bike tires and it is what I have used for years. It’s also good for a quick hunting blind, a seat, a cart for firewood and even a ladder if needed. Used oak and it has lasted for years.

I was in my 30's but I once camped a ta place where they provided wheel barrows to get from your car to your campsite between 100 to 400 yards. I seriously appreciated the commodity as I was camping alone with the tent, air mattress and all.

A little off topic, my wife, dog and I just got back from a 60 day car camp in CO. We both are 75 years old. I wanted to see what I still had left after being a couch potato for more than 10 years in Tucson in a 55 plus "resort". All of the time was in a tent and me on the ground with an air mattress. Why? I couldn't get up off a cot in Tucson and now, no problem (I still enjoy the ground and my mattress). My wife "smoothed" it with a cot. Long story short, I didn't know what I was missing being cooped up in a house waiting to die and in good health. I had just gave up and got old. I got in better shape, lost weight, and felt so much better. Also, NO stress. NO internet unless we went into town. We used to do this all the time when we were young and then we "retired". I'm "home" now and we are planning our next long outing to WY. Other campers were very surprised we were out in "a tent" for so long at our age. I miss the rivers and outdoors and I won't let that happen again unless for health reasons. My wife feels the same way. When she was a girl, she was not allowed to join the Bluebirds. She had never built a campfire. I showed her how and she really enjoyed it and built them for most of the trip (smart, eh?). I cut the wood and she built the fire. Don't burn daylight, the clock is ticking!

👍👍👍 .. absolutely! On well-maintained trails (one of my my favourites runs alongside the Swiss River Rhine from home to a local park) I use an old Shopping Trolley .. the two-wheel pull-along type. I walk / bus to my local Supermarket .. they're very popular in this neck of the woods. The Zipper on one of the Bag Compartments is broken but no big deal. When desired, depending on the outing planned, the bag can be removed from the Trolley Frame and replaced with a heavy duty river-swimming dry bag or a large backpack. I am looking to changing out the 'civilian' wheels with larger diameter ones for rougher terrain. Looking back in History, 'Carts' in all shapes and sizes have played their part in Migrations all across the Globe. One must not get sucked into the fallacy that to enjoy the outdoors, one must 'backpack' one's gear to wherever. Backpacks are just one means (and there are many) of getting stuff from points A to B. A good share .. thanks. Take care ..

Over 10 years ago, I was going to a weekend Boy Scout's adult leader training. We had some projects to do, so I wanted to bring some extra supplies. But the rule was it had to be only one trip in to camp, no back-and-forth loading. So I made a little wooden hand cart out of 2x2s with a couple lawn mower wheels. Luckily the trail wasn't too rough and it worked great. I also learned a lesson. Make sure the cross bars are a bit long on each side so you can make a diamond or double diamond packing hitch stay on well.

We use our deer carts for hauling our gear out into the woods, packs, bows, you name it, it all go's on the cart. One thing we learned, was it keeps you from getting sweated up an stinking, alot easier, but were all over 60 in our deer camp. This applys in the midwest where we hunt in the early season, or here in Fla later in the season, but bring a bycycle lock an chain it to a tree away from were we hunt, an try an hide it. Then carry your climber an backpack into your spot, easy peasy, work smarter, not harder. Thx for the vid Blackie

I loved the ideas of you and others for this. I purchased a hunting cart on sale. I'm using it for hauling all my stuff. Since the weight limit is around 500 pounds, I can pack heavy if I'm taking stuff from the car to the site. It is only as wide as my grocery cart I have but a lot more strudy and higher off the ground. If I need to evacuate due to something, I can put a lot more on it and still pull or push it out to the car or away somewhere. Thanks for the great info and ideas you always give. Take Care and Stay Safe.

I really like these ideas! Personally, I was never a fan of backpacks even in my twenties, and have favored a sling bag for many years. My fishing buddies fell in love with a fancy tackle cart we saw a guy pulling on a trip this year, but it's mighty pricey. That hand truck looks like just the ticket to safely convey a couple of poles, plus tackle box and cooler, down to the water. Got an old one in my garage that's a bit rusty and rickety for heavy duty hauling, but would be perfect for this. Plus, if it was on stable ground, you could sit on the cooler as a seat with the back as a backrest.

Blackie, i aquired an old wheel barrow several years ago, the wooden frame was in bad shape, however the plastic tub was in fair shape. So i mounted a u bolt to the front to have a tie on point, to use as a drag for hauling game. Haven't used it for game yet, but use it all the time around the house for moving heavy or awkward objects. It doesn't roll anymore but the plastic slides nearly effortlessly on rough terrain and soft sand. Great video and great subject.

Greetings Blackie- These are some good ideas for those with limited mobility and/or back issues, ect... I have a backpack that I bought some years ago that has 2 wheels on the bottom and extension handle that is on top next to the carry handle. It works great at airports and smooth surfaces, but Im not sure how well it would do on dirt. The 3 wheels on each side that rotate type carts are great for lugging stuff up stairs and they work well on un-even ground. I think if I had to choose, it would be the 3 wheel on each side cart. Thanks for another video and be safe out there- Carry On-

I (6"3", 265#) drive small compact cars. I use one of those folding Golf Bag carts ($5 Thrift Store find) that folds down fairly small, combined with a 7-gallon Plastic bucket bungeed to it to load and haul everything down some "interesting" paths/trails' ruts when conducting training sessions for Scout Leaders. If you add a screw-off lid to the bucket, but leave it open for packing in, the lid, along with a circle cut from an old foam sleeping pad, goes back on the bucket once you have camp set up, giving you both a waterproof cache and a place to sit.

Hmm using a Golf Club Bag Trolley.. 🤔 Load all the cook kits and tent and hammock into the Golf Club Bag, club bags are tubular, tents and tarps are kinda tubular? ... You could fashion a paracord tow rope to your belt and pull it behind.. Possibilities are endless.

Hi, Blackie for Cub Scout camporee we would have to haul our gear 1/4 mile. I bought a folding wheel barrel that that a metals frame and a tarp body. It only cost 20 buck but I could put about 100 pound gear on it and not get too tried.

It’s strange. But I’ve been reading and watching videos about trail carts! I’m about decided to get me something. Elk hunters use a cart to carry out the meat. I’m thinking I could increase my pack weight to 70 pounds or so. But using wheels to put it down the trail. It’s an exciting idea

I know it’s not helpful down in the Deep South, but in winter don’t forget those cheap sleds that the kiddies play with in the snow. Tie a decent rope to the front and you can haul a lot of gear/game with that.

They make or should I say have plans for trekking carts online. I will give another perspective. I go almost every year to a massive car show and swap meet. As in 10,000 or more. Now in the swap meet area you see every type of conveyance out there. Many just have a two wheeled hand trucks. Check Harbor Freight when you have a coupon. Many then bungie a plastic trash can to it. Also the old kids wagon except you might need to lengthen the tongue for easier pulling. They make flatbed ones. You would want pnuematic tires. There is also the garden cart which is much like the original boyscouts cart but smaller. If you are really handy, I have seen a shopping cart on three wheels. One swivel in the front and two in the back. The cart has been chopped down to make easier to load. The back is the rear end of a Rascal scooter. The control is on the tongue. Then there are the regular 3 and 4 wheel electric scooters. 90% is mown grass from a hay field. I have no problem what people use. Oh and those garden carts are for hire. Either $10 or $15 for a boy or girl scout to haul your heavy items. A little 15 year old farm girl hauled my 30 gal compressor tank I bought a long way to our booth. So they are sturdy I have seen a whole engine pushed in one, so they are sturdy.

I've just got a new experience today. Imagine - what would've happened if you've used an old trangia with a leak on the bottom? yes, nothing, it works just fine. now imagine putting a simmer ring on top ....... yes- I just did this today and got a rocket stove. a dangerous one :) need to solder it or something

@@blackoracle69 yup, as soon as I put the simmer ring, the pressure pushed alk out by a small hole and it started burning - immediately heating the burner and making the gasses and flame like 30cm high. When my amusement ended and I realized it might not take this type of pressure too long (I'm still shocked that it sustained and didn't blow up in my face) I cut the oxygen with a bucket and it all went down

We used a golf bag cart for moving our gear. The inserts are great for securing shotguns when dove hunting. The baby carts are a great. However, do not wear athletic sweats while pushing one on a trail. A balding 73 year old male should not dress that way and push a baby cart in the field. It invites images of Ned Beatty in Deliverance. I am glad you did not suggest supermarket shopping carts as we have lots of silverwolf ground pounders pushing them on our city streets. I mean we are old but still have an ounce of dignity.

I hear you talking about joint pain quite a bit , I have a fix for that. go to wall mart or your favorite store and get a 2 lb box of "twenty mule team borax" , the old stuff not the new and improved stuff with all the additives in it , put 1/8th of a teaspoon of this "borax" in a qt of water shake it up real good and drink it through the day , every day or every other day , in about a week or two that pain should go away . research shows areas of the world with borax in the soil people don't get arthritis , areas of the world with no borax in the soil they do , compare England to Arizona. try it , it won't hurt you and may help.
